D&D conspiracy? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Koga:The ninja trick
03-13-04, 10:19 PM The Koga was doing some mass thinking today. (Very unusual I know. :P ) and doesn't it seem strange to you that commoners and such live thier little lives without a twinge of fear? I mean I understand the concept of adapting to harsh conditions, but this is ridicoules! XD

So sense The Koga's DM is making a game with two parties. (One good, one "bad".) The Koga decided to be part of the bad (He has trouble with large number parties so we divided.) and we'll get the new psionics handbook and try it out. I got two playing named Spryte. (8-bit Theatre blackmage achretype. So it's a pun off of 8-bit sprites.) and Pepsi. (She likes Pepsi.. ~_~) and I was considering the idea of Psions in black. Like the rumored men in black that make sure nothing gets out, so another friend said "Name yourself Mr. Pib." which I found histerical and ironic all at the same time. XD

But it did get The Koga to thinking.. how is it so many can know so little about the world around them? Clearly the world as they know it is hidden away and erased from thier minds from outside sources. Wether it be the psions fearing for the safety of thier world, the druid's not wanting the tradition to break, clerics knowing better, wizards and sorcerers only showing thier knowledge to those most trust worthy, or even the theives guild wanting to keep thier high lives. It seems it would only make sense for there to be a mass goverment conspiracy within the walls of Dungeons&Dragons universe.

And that's what The Koga is aiming for his team to be all about.:cool:

To further be like the MIB I'm going to use our starter gold to buy us some wands of modify memory. :D

03-14-04, 01:44 AM Are you talking about the commoners not knowing about the wide world they live in? If you equate it to Europe in the Dark Ages, most never left their community's area. Strangers were look on with much suspicion, and superstition was rampant.

Commoners in DnD probably never live thier lives without fear (C'mon 4 hp is a scary thought for all of us.)

As far as your conspiracy that the commoners are kept in the dark by some power, if it actually exists, I would ask what the reason is behind the mis- or dis-information. Are they preventing a mass panic? Or is Haliburton building a pipeline through their backyard and they want to keep the peons away?

Wouldn't gods of truth, justice and maybe a few other portfolios be against such information being distorted? Their agents would be working against such activity. Misinformation usually comes out at some later time and the agency dealing it take a hit in reputation.

If the Koga is on the side of the secrets, I have one thing to say: "Look out for the Ranger named Mulder."

Fear? Why would they live in fear? It's not like your average commonner is beset by orc raiders every other night and gnolls the rest.

It's no different than Ancient Rome, or the American West.

Outlying settlements are subject to occasional raids by hostile peoples living nearby, in closer to the center of civilization they really only have to worry when it's outright war. In those threatened outlying settlements, the people are always prepared for an attack may come, but they don't fear them. The men are ready to take up the sword in the event of an attack, but in the meantime they go about their business.
