| RoCkEtInToXiCaTe06-25-06, 12:28 AM | I was talking with a guy today at drill that said he would play via IRC online with a dicerolling bot that would play pen and ink D&D, just like everyone else would on tabletop. So I was wondering if anyone here does that, or can tell me how? I would be much appreciated. |

My longest-running game started this way (I don't have the dicebot script, but I could code up another one). Or, if you're more interested in a straightforward solution, I suggest OpenRPG (http://www.openrpg.com). Contains an IRC-like chat interface (but with full HTML support for things like formatting, images, and links, similar to IRC but slightly enhanced), an XML-based (yet easy-to-edit due to tools provided) gametree of nodes (for things like characters, encounters, and other resources, similar to sheets of paper, except they can contain macroes), a full-on miniature map, and more. (EDIT: You never actually LOOK at any of this code if you're doing your job properly, since it handles nearly all of it for you. Only advanced formatting -- optional, and you'd be doing this AND MORE with IRC -- requires you to use HTML code. Take a look at the screenshots to see what it really looks like.) Oh, and it's free. Though, since it's wxPython based, MacOSX users will have a devil of a time getting it to work. |
