A dark arena. The silence is deafening. A strange-looking man, wearing a leather coat, with scale-male underneath walks into the middle. A spotlight shines on him. He raises up his arms and says,
“Welcome… to… D&D IDOL!

Full lights come on. The crowd roars in appreciation. One voice yells, “D&D Idol? I thought this was Wheel of Krenshars! Well, there’s an evening ruined.”

The man in the middle holds a baton to his mouth. He announces, the baton amplifying the noise, “Welcome to the hottest new entertainment available! So first, let me introduce to you our fine judges: first and foremost, me! I am Ey Bicynicawlii! Next, fresh from a Jell-O mould to the north, Boite the Gelatinous Cube!”

Boite moves forward slowly, engulfing a cameraman.

“And our final judge, last, but not least, Dante Cash, our resident Bodak! Give them a hand, ladies and gentlemen!”

Dante gives a charming smile to the crowd, lowering his sunglasses. A substantial amount of the studio audience falls dead.

“So,” continues Ey, “Here are the rules. We give you a topic, and you have a short time to do anything that this inspires you to do. We go by the audience’s reaction, as well as our judges’ opinions.

"And here is the prize: THE D&D IDOL!" He holds up a trophy, looking something like this: :behold: .

So, welcome to D&D Idol. As mentioned above, we give you a topic. You can write a poem, a song, make a movie, make a drawing, etc. about this topic. Here are the rest of the rules.

D&D Idol is a game, a contest, an ideas think tank, and a social cesspit, all in one thread. It combines teamwork, anarchy, creativity, and more.

1) You must follow the board rules.
2) Once an entry is in, it’s subject to all reactions from anyone.
3) Any entry must be an original creation by the contest.
4) As such, proof of ownership must be on the entry. It could be in the description of the entry on a video-hosting site. It could be a signature on the drawing.
5) All posts must have at least part of the posts in italics, signifying in-character (IC) description. More on this further down the page.

There are three basic ways to participate. You can:
1) Be a participant. This means you give an entry. We judge it, give criticism, and the audience riots and does other fun stuff.
2) Be a judge. This means that in character, you step bravely onto the stage, and sit at the judges’ table. You can try to kick a judge off the table too, but the audience will probably react strongly to that.
3) Be a part of the audience. You can react to a judge’s comment, a participant’s entry, or more.
Always have an in-character part of a post. It can be as simple as An old, bald man in the front row cheers wildly as the cameraman is engulfed.

It can be as complicated as trying to be a judge, or submitting an entry: shuffling up awkwardly, striding up boldly, tunnelling out of the ground, handing an envelope to the judges, jumping on a table and belting out a song drunkenly, etc.

Don’t troll. Don’t flame. Things are expected to get wild, but don’t do anything you will regret when sober. If you don’t like a judge, boo them once per contest at most. If you don’t like an entry, be gentle. These people are being brave.

Don’t use excessive sblocks, fonts, etc. They get annoying to read. Use italics for spells and in-character.

If you are offended by anything posted, you have a right to tell whatever person off. However, don’t let it get Springer.

Don’t start riots in the audience. No, not even Incite Riot.

First place in every contest gets a :behold:
Who wants to be the first entrant ever?
We need another judge currently. Judges may come and go, but we need another. PM me or walk on up. Make sure to describe the judge!

Boite
Dante

Soon I will have some pictures of the judges up. The scanner needs tinkering, so I will get around to it.

So what do you all think of this? Participate if it sounds fun!

"Now," yells Ey, "Our first topic is... DRAGONS! Let your imagination run rampant!"

A gnome runs onto stage, moons the judges and farts loudly, then shouts,

"My impersonation of 3x grognards critiquing 4e!"

Ey looks shocked. "That's not related to the topic..." he muses puzzledly. (No, that's not a real word.

Dante removes his sunglasses and winks at the gnome.

A very well dressed young man, who is obviously Damaran, walks boldly up onto the stage. "I, as many of you already know, am Captain Madrick." The crowd cheers wildly at this popular, and well known sea captain. With a gesture, Madrick calms the roar of the crowd, and draws the Rapier and Luckblade that made him famous. He smiles as the crowd, and snaps his fingers. An earth genasi wearing robes carts out a large cage containing a very large white dragon.

The crowd starts to mutter nervously, but the genasi leaves the cage, and activates a rod in his hand, dropping a transparent wall of force, separating the audience from the stage, and the danger that is present there. Madrick then reaches behind him, pulling out a length of silk, which he proceeds to tie over his eyes! The genasi walks back over to the cage and releases the white dragon. The dragon roars, and engulfs Madrick in a sheet of freezing air and ice. The audience is still.

When the ice clears, Madrick is standing there, his plumed hat blown to the floor. Black hair has sprouted from his arms and face, giving him the look of a human/panther hybrid. He growls and charges, still blindfolded at his foe. The crowd watches in awe, as Madrick deftly dodges every single attack from the furious dragon, poking holes in every slip of defence from the creature. In a matter of 30 seconds, Madrick jumps and climbs to the head of the dragon, sinking both swords deep into its skull, dropping it. He jumps down to the stage, the fur on his body receeding into him. He removes the blindfold, picks up and replaces his hat upon his head. He walks over, drops the magical wall of force, smiles, bows, and tosses the silk blindfold into the crowd before walking off stage!

"Deadly!" cries Ey.

"Smashing!" announces Dante.

"*GLORP*" announces Boite.

A weathered old man limps onto the stage. His white hair and beard are striking in comparison to his tattered golden robe. He takes a seat on the stool in front of the audience and mutters quietly to himself, a contemplative look upon his face. Several moments pass....

Ey: "Umm. Sir? I'm terribly sorry but I do not have your name on my cue card here..."

Boite: eats cue card Kobold *GLORP*

Old Man: "Eh? What's that son? A name? Why I haven't had use for one one those in centuries...." He drifts off into some sort of reverie

Crowd laughs

Ey: "Oh?" laughs "Well, what can you show us about Dragons? I doubt you can follow that last act"

More laughter

Old Man: "Dragons? What do ye think ye know about dragons!? Sit back, child, and I'll spin ye' a tale of dragons..."

Crowd leans in attentively

Old Man: "Long ago- before the time of Man and Elf, Dwarf and Orc, Goblin and Gnome- was the time of Dragons. The gods created them first, before the rest, and they are as old as the world itself. The gods created them in two types. Those of the Light and those of the Dark. At first, there was little bickering amongst the Dragons, for the world was new and it's secrets were undiscovered."

At this point, the old man caughs slightly and casts a Silent, Stilled Major Image

He continues: "The Light and Dark flew together in harmony, soaring above the fertile world that was their home and playground"

An image appears over the crowd: A Gargantuan Red Dragon flies over a mountain pass. A Wyrmling Gold approaches and they begin to "play fight" in the clouds above the peaks.

"Until the day magic was found."

The Wymling Gold discovers a strange ribbon of energy. Excited, he shows the Red and they fly to investigate.

"Once this source of power was discovered, there was much bickering over what it should be used for. The Light and Dark could not agree. The Light wanted to create new beings so that they too may enjoy the bounty of the gods. The Dark wanted to use it to create comforts and increase their power over the land itself. Eventually, the differences became too great and the eldest Dark dragon hatched a plan."

A scene of Chromatic dragons in a meeting hall. One is much larger than the rest, female and obviously in charge. She shifts from color to color and seems to be the embodiment of the Dark dragons. The image shifts and a war is playing out in the skies. Light against Dark, Metallic against Chromatic. Many fall from both sides.

"She led a brazen attack against the Light. Many weeks of fighting left so many dead. So many. Eventually only she and her rival remained. They squared off in front of the ribbon itself."

A gargantuan Gold dragon faces the Evil queen. A horrific fight is presented. They fight on the ground and the Gold appears to be winning. He has his rival pinned when she reaches for the ribbon of energy. It's power flows through her and she incinerates the Gold. He appears dead.

"She stood above her vanquished foe, the last remaining of her kind. 'No matter', she thought, 'I have all of the power now.'

She begins tugging at the ribbon, wrapping it around herself. As she is almost finished, the Gold stirs

"The Gold used his last ounce of energy- Nay! Part of his very soul- to stop her. He begged his gods to help him."

A whirlwind descends upon the scene, taking the two dragons away. The ribbon unravels from the queen and vanishes into thin air

"His gods obliged. They took them both to the heavens and set them aside. They became gods themselves, over time. And they brought the dragons back to this world. They had a hand in creating some of us, too."

The scene shifts to two constellations in the night sky, each shaped like a dragon- and then dissolves

"Next time you look to those stars, it may not be a bad idea to say 'Thanks""

He shuffles off the stage and vanishes from sight. A DC30 Spot reveals Golden Eyes and a scaly appearance to his skin. His robe is no longer tattered and it could be said you see him wink before he is gone

Captain Madrick sweeps off his hat and bows to the old man as he passes. He replaces his hat, and claps loudly along with the crowd

Farting gnome wanders back on stage, cloaked in a long (for a gnome), black cape.

"First I'm gonna make a dragon laugh, then I'm gonna make him cry."

The gnome opens a portal, beyond which is a very large red dragon. The gnome whispers something to the dragon. The dragon bursts out in booming laughter. Then the gnome steps in front of the portal, his back to the judges and audience. He spreads his cape and the dragon stops laughing and bursts into tears. As the gnome closes his cape, the portal disappears. He turns back to face everyone.

"How did I do it, you ask? Easy. First, I told him I was hung better than he was. Second, I showed him!"

Gnome cringes, awaiting judgement.

Captain Madrick, standing to the side of the stage, lets out a very hearty chuckle, showing the audience it is ok to laugh. Even Madrick's Earth Genasi assisstant can be seen smirking.

I thought this was just a contest like the many Master DM comps, etc. The only difference is that it's open to seemingly everyone and therefore was placed on the General board. Seemed OK here to me, but I could very well be wrong. It has, after all, been known to happen all too frequently :D
