D&D+Larping Musical [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-21-07, 10:26 PM I've undertaken the task of writing a musical for next year's winter Drama production, or at least am going to give it a try.

For subject matter, many of the guys in the group, including myself, have suggested doing a D&D-teenager scenario ultimately resulting in a coming-of-age story. All of this would involve musical numbers, including musical LARPing.

I'm completely open to ideas at this point, as this is pretty much all I have on the matter. So does anybody have ideas that I can consider for this?

01-22-07, 11:34 AM AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT...

thats the first time I've seen anyone asking for help with a musical on these boards... Anyways, I am not sure how well you can portray LARPing on stage. It is basically "acting" acting. I can see a lot of people watching this and thinking "teenagers still playing make-believe?!?"

There is also some of the negative speculation that DnD occasionally gets... which you may want to steer clear of

anyways, as always you need to think of the conflict first and what the development of the story is. I personally cannot think of much on the subject at the moment, but I'll get back to you if I do.

01-22-07, 11:41 AM Could always go for the angle of a Protagonist who doesn't take chances in life, or lacks self assurance, but behind the dice makes swashbuckling and heroic moves, and would march up to any maiden he pleased. I guess I'm also trying to grasp if the audience is witness to the fact that it's a game or not.

You know, "Still Playing Make-Believe" could be an awfully good name for a song in that musical. At least, that's my humble opinion.
