| Anung_Un_Rama11-02-06, 03:44 PM | I'm a bit of a metal-head, and I was pleasantly surprised to find a band I like, 3 Inches of Blood, did a song called "Destroy the Orcs." It's quite catchy, and there's just something lovely about powermetal vocals about killing, slaying, and otherwise destroying orcs. I mean, seriously. Maybe one day DragonForce will go in the same direction. Or better yet, Amon Amarth. I think this will be my groups new "dungeon fodder fight scene" theme song. |
| CryoSilver11-02-06, 03:51 PM | I think Amon Amarth is quite commercial enough as it is, thank you very much; no need to make them silly to boot. |
| elondir11-02-06, 03:56 PM | yee haw! :) Dragonforce are so fast they make Yngwie seem like Clapton! *bangs head at 900 bpm to "Cry For Eternity"* Gotta figure out how they play those 128th note sweeps... Check out Battle Lore - they're death metal and even have a few "elves" in the band. I just pictured an army of orcs headbanging so fast their heads fell off. |
| Anung_Un_Rama11-02-06, 04:01 PM | I think Amon Amarth is quite commercial enough as it is, thank you very much; no need to make them silly to boot. Well, other bands do it. Gorgoroth is named after a Tolkein reference, man! |
| CryoSilver11-02-06, 04:02 PM | Gorgoroth is a silly band, too. Not to say I don't like them (I'm a big Amon Amarth fan), but they're silly people. |
| Prak, the Mad11-02-06, 04:03 PM | how are they commercial? how would fantasy songs make them silly? |
| CryoSilver11-02-06, 04:06 PM | Coming from my perspective as a black metal/underground metal scene fan, Amon Amarth sounds overproduced. And I just find it hard to take a band seriously when they sing about orcs when all the other bands I listen to sing about burning churches. Call me crazy; that's just the way I am. |
| The White Sorcerer11-02-06, 04:13 PM | Call me crazy You're crazy!:looloo: |
| CryoSilver11-02-06, 04:15 PM | Well, yea. I'm a libertarian, so that's basically a given, eh? |
| nome.11-02-06, 04:20 PM | The correct answer to this thread is Summoning. |
| Anung_Un_Rama11-02-06, 04:22 PM | Totally. I mean, come on. |
| Comfort_in_Insanity11-02-06, 04:44 PM | Most black metal fits well with the evil campaign motif. Gorgoroth, Burzum (Both Tolkein references >_> ), Satyricon, Emperor, Enslaved, and Windir are all great bands, off the top of my head. There's also Finntroll (A very silly band, but still awesome) If you're into over-the-top powermetal about killing orcs, then Blind Guardian is probably a band you'd want to look in to. |
| TheCheeseWiddler11-02-06, 04:45 PM | Gorgoroth is a silly band, too. Not to say I don't like them (I'm a big Amon Amarth fan), but they're silly people. Ha, 'silly', thats an odd way to put slaughtering live sheep on stage. I'd love to get my hands on that video! Theres a very clear tie with metal, and fantasy. Look back at bands like Dio, and the like. It's continued on through out the history of metal (especialy in bands from other countries) up through til today. It very well could have been bands that are more fantasy based are what got me started in D&D. Bands like Dragonforce (I've been a fan for two years, and it makes me sick seeing all this punk kids running around saying that they're a fan of the 'New band Dragonforce'), Hammerfall, Borknagar, Woods of Ypres, Belinus, Battleheart, Battlelore, Turisas, Kamelot, Dark Tranquility, etc. etc. Can all be thanked for my interest, and inspiration in the world of fantasy, D&D particuarly. -Ky |
| CryoSilver11-02-06, 04:46 PM | Ha, 'silly', thats an odd way to put slaughtering live sheep on stage. I'd love to get my hands on that video! I'm a master of understatement |
| Comfort_in_Insanity11-02-06, 04:58 PM | Gorgoroth isn't silly, per se, but it is ridiculously over the top (I get it. They love satan. No need to rub it in) Still a great band. One of my favorites, probably only second to Windir. Also add to my list Darkthrone (Avoid their more recent stuff at all costs, though) and Immortal (Can't believe I forgot Immortal) |
| nome.11-02-06, 06:18 PM | Immortal are awesome for anything involving winter. Like our current campaign..sadly, the other players would probably not enjoy them very much. I play ina group of older gamers..while they're all fantastic roleplayers, their taste in music differs greatly from my taste. So I try and tune out the music we have playing during sessions. In my opinion, while power metal is good stuff it doesn't really get the atmosphere of the games I've been in. Bands with some darker sounding music but still a lighthearted atmosphere, such as Ensiferum or Finntroll (who someone actually mentioned.. huzzah!), would be great gaming metal in my opinion. |
| Mecha_Pope11-02-06, 07:48 PM | In the Led Zepplin song "Ramble On", there is a verse that goes "Mines a tale that cant be told, My freedom I hold dear; How years ago in days of old When magic filled the air, Twas in the darkest depths of mordor I met a girl so fair, But gollum, and the evil one crept up And slipped away with her. Her, her....yea. Aint nothing I can do, no." Also in stairway to heaven the lines "There's a feeling I get when I look to the west / And my spirit is crying for leaving" may be a reference to the Elves in the works of J. R. R. Tolkien, specifically to the departure of the Elves from Middle-earth for the immortal land in the West. All that glitters is gold is a reversal of the common saying All that glitters is not gold. In addition, the "All that glitters is gold" line could be another Tolkien reference - there is a poem about Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings with the line "All that is gold does not glitter." Also refering to this book, the lyrics mention "a lady we all know /Who shines white light and wants to show", which could possibly be related to Galadriel as she possesed the "light"(Earendil). In addition Rush features songs titled, "Rivendell" and "The Necromancer" There are loads more that I can't even remeber. Classic rock has been heavily influenced by Tolkin and fantasy |
| Anung_Un_Rama11-02-06, 11:00 PM | Ha, 'silly', thats an odd way to put slaughtering live sheep on stage. I'd love to get my hands on that video! Theres a very clear tie with metal, and fantasy. I mean, I love them, but I hadn't really heard of them until around last December. There are several metal heads around where I am who are just finding out about them. |
| Kargush11-03-06, 05:41 AM | Manowar anyone...? Ride the Dragons, Power of Thy Sword, etc...? And yeah, I love BM. Immortal is one of my favorites, Gorgoroth too. Both have songs that would fit the bill. And then we have Bal-Sagoth. Worth a listen, IMO. |
| Trondant11-03-06, 07:34 AM | there are many good genres depending on your gaming style - ic and ooc drunkenness/sillyness korpiklaani, finntroll, trollfest, troll gnot el...well anything with troll - epic world saving greatness powermetal. all the way. - laid back relaxed game, low level with 'retrieve a girls doll' kind of quests folk, especially the dubliners - horror doom metal or black metal, depending if you're moving through creepy surroundings (sloow, humming doomy tunes) or fighting that undead warlord (black metal) |
| Fabius Maximus11-03-06, 07:52 AM | Argh! Manowar. The cheesiest metal band existing. I'd recommend Morgion if they wouldn't be so boring. Obviously, they are Dragonlance fans. |
| Anung_Un_Rama11-03-06, 09:32 AM | I've met alot of people who hate Nightwish, but they have a song or two about Raistlin from Dragonlance. Wishmaster, I think, is the more popular. I think they're pretty good, and servicable as gaming music in certain situations, but the big problem is people like to focus on, and make fun of, their lyrics and use of English (I Wish I Had an Angel comes to mind...) |
| Ocom11-03-06, 09:41 AM | I think "Destroy the Orcs" was a song by Battlelore Battlelore 3 CDs and Whispering Forest - Gothic scripts and Celtic runes form my Goth Metal collection. Also for D&D I have Blind Guardian, Midnight Syndicate and some who's name i can't remember. And people what is wrong with Manowar, Nightwish and Finntroll? All are good bands. |
| LastOfTheEld11-03-06, 10:01 AM | Destroy the Orcs is a 3 Inches of Blood song. I don't recall a song by Battlelore called Destroy the Orcs, but if there is, 3 Inches of Blood have one as well, and it is theirs, and it is amazing. Blind Guardian also has a song about Raistlin (Soulforged), and not to mention an entire CD dedicated to Tolkien, as well as various other songs related to fantasy material (Lord of the Rings, Dark Tower to name a few). I can't believe no one mentioned Rhapsody. They created an entire fantasy world and wrote...I think 5 CD's about it? Not to mention they got Christopher Lee to narrate the last one...simply stunning. DragonForce is great battle music, but way too intense for an entire game. Although I am a huge metalhead, and most of my group enjoys metal as well, I must say that the best music I've used for a game overall was in fact The Midnight Syndicate's CD...but there's always something fun about seeing the barbarian head-banging between his cleaves, and the fighter thrusting one hand high to the sky on bended knee as he shouts out "For victory we ride, fury of the storm!" |
| Anung_Un_Rama11-03-06, 10:11 AM | I love Midnight Syndicate! The D&D "Soundtrack" was totally worth the twelve bucks I spent. I'm trying to find their more spooky stuff as of late, I hear it's good. |
| Armoured Priest11-03-06, 10:13 AM | Gotta throw in Domine. They use Michael Moorcock's books as inspiration in the same way Blind Guardian uses Tolkien's stuff. They also did a really cool song about Conan (Aquilonian Suite Pt1) using arrangements of the music from the movies. Also, take a look at Fates Warning's first three albums (when John Arch was the lead singer). A lot of cool fantasy based stuff there too. |
| Osedox11-03-06, 10:58 AM | Its good to hear some kindred spirits, I love DragonForce, Finntroll, and Blind Guardian being mentioned. Angra is also a good band for fantasy music, they are from Brazil, check um out. |
| Lord_Tirian11-03-06, 11:07 AM | You can, of course, throw in Rhapsody (of Fire) for ultimate cheesiness... |
| CharlieRock11-03-06, 11:35 AM | Well, I can't wait anymore; someone has got to mention Killer Dwarves. oh, and Hawkwind has a theme album of Elric, it was pretty good too. If you like ManOwar check out the first link in my signature. :D |
| Fabius Maximus11-03-06, 01:28 PM | And people what is wrong with Manowar, Nightwish and Finntroll? All are good bands. You're right. Finntroll is a really good band. Nightwish is pathetic and Manowar downright incapable of not repating themselves over and over again. As are Blind Guardian and most other Power and True Metal bands. |
| Pangeon11-03-06, 06:36 PM | I doubt anyone here has heard of them, but the band Fuse The Sky is awesome Dragon-Slaying rock. Not really metal per-se, but amazing nonetheless. Find their Myspace, and listen to "By The Shadow Of The Sword." It's mainly insturmental, though. |
| yossarius11-03-06, 07:24 PM | Also in stairway to heaven the lines "There's a feeling I get when I look to the west / And my spirit is crying for leaving" may be a reference to the Elves in the works of J. R. R. Tolkien, specifically to the departure of the Elves from Middle-earth for the immortal land in the West. Actually, Led Zepplin went on record decades ago that "Stairway to Heaven" was inspired by Celtic mythology, not Tolkien, but I can see how you might make the connection. |
| Comfort_in_Insanity11-04-06, 02:36 PM | Oh, cheek out Leaves' Eyes if you're into the whole operatic vocals thing. |
| CharlieRock11-07-06, 01:06 AM | Savatage: Hall of the Mountain King  link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3c2_dHtznE&NR) |
| CryoSilver11-07-06, 01:21 AM | When I game, I throw on some death metal, and my players know that it'sall about to hit the fan. Nothing says "imminent doom" like Napalm Death. |
| CharlieRock11-07-06, 03:54 AM | Heh, seems to scare them whenever I turn the music down (whatever it happened to be). They all go :mymy: like' uh-oh, why did you turn that down?' |
| CryoSilver11-07-06, 04:18 AM | I turn it UP. And I smile, which really freaks them out, since I smile so rarely. |
| CoyoteUK11-07-06, 04:19 AM | Am I the only person who associates most metal with Orcs rather than elves? I mean its just not very Elfy stuff is it....far more Orcish.... |
| Arivia11-07-06, 04:29 AM | Am I the only person who associates most metal with Orcs rather than elves? I mean its just not very Elfy stuff is it....far more Orcish.... You need some Elvenking, then. You can find metal songs for nearly anything in fantasy: you just have to look. |
| CryoSilver11-07-06, 04:35 AM | Why can't metal be elvish? Metal has lots of messages, and one of those messages is expressing oneself and freedom, which are very elvish values. Example bands include: Drowning Pool (Sinner), Heaven Shall Burn (Weapon They Fear). Just because elves are generally seen as "pansy" does not necessarily make them so. One could even make a case for Trivium being gnome-oriented. Have you listened to the lyrics of "Gunshot"? They're about family values and taking good care of your children, and gnomes are very clan-oriented. Orcs are actually quite low on my list of "metal" races. Metal isn't stupid and brutish (well, grindcore is, but that's hardly even music). Metal is savage and unhindered by social niceties. |
| CharlieRock11-07-06, 04:48 AM | Elven metal ... Hawkwind or Leatherwolf! link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joVM0OjEdTU) |
| CryoSilver11-07-06, 04:58 AM | Elven metal: Soulfly. |
| CharlieRock11-07-06, 07:15 AM | Elven metal ... mithril? |
| CryoSilver11-07-06, 07:39 AM | Cesium |
| THETUNNELRAT11-07-06, 07:51 AM | MANOWAR the Metal band I used to listen to these guys back in high school and talk of Battle music made me remember some of their songs. Achilles, Agony, and Ecstasy in Eight Parts: Prelude/Hector Storms the Wall, The Power of Thy Sword, and other songs that would heat the blood. :fight!: :fight!: :fight!: :fight!: :fight!: :fight!: :fight!: :fight!: :fight!: :fight!: |
| CharlieRock11-07-06, 08:08 AM | You forgot Defeder, and Fighting the World. :P psst. my LotR video (signature) is ManoWar :D |

Just because elves are generally seen as "pansy" does not necessarily make them so. I dont see elves as "pansy" (see my sig :D ) but they are forest dwelling and playfull...whilst metal is far more harsh than elven nature.... Orcs are actually quite low on my list of "metal" races. Metal isn't stupid and brutish (well, grindcore is, but that's hardly even music). Metal is savage and unhindered by social niceties. However elven life isnt "savage". It might suit "Kurgan" style tribes (I'm thinking of the highlander representation here...) but its hardly music of the wilds. The very fact that it is "metal", rather than "wood" or "antler" speaks volumes (if you'll pardon the pun) :). Its generally "angry" music but rage is only a small part of even a barbarians life; instead it fits far more with oppressed folks in cities working in forges and factories like something out of "a tale of two cities". Dark satanic mills, so to speak. Elven music, for me, would be acoustic, not "turned up to 11" :D |
| CharlieRock11-07-06, 08:21 AM | Elven music, for me, would be acoustic, not "turned up to 11" :D Oh, that would def be Hawkwind, or even Crimson King. |
| CoyoteUK11-07-06, 08:35 AM | Oh, that would def be Hawkwind, or even Crimson King. I was thinking more like Blackmore's Night :D |
| CharlieRock11-07-06, 08:42 AM | I was thinking more like Blackmore's Night :D Man on a Silver Mountain? That one would work ,too. |
| Rivelstraz11-07-06, 09:36 AM | Destroy the Orcs is a 3 Inches of Blood song. Yeah, the epical story about Arvald, Areisious(sp?), Dargor the ex-villain, etc. Too bad the last CD was so weak, without any highlight except Christopher Lee narration. I discovered Rhapsody, Kamelot and Therion 7 years ago, when I started to play rpgs "seriously" (3-4 days a month) and I still listen to them briefly (Especially Therion) |
| Pippa11-07-06, 09:55 AM | Well, other bands do it. Gorgoroth is named after a Tolkein reference, man! As is Amon Amarth. Personally, I think Leaves' Eyes (just watched the Elegy-clip) isn't realy opera-ish, more pop-ish like Within Temptation (good band, but skip the live concerts). As for cheesiness in metal, Stratovarius definately wins first prize. I like some of their work very much, though. And I have come to a phase where I do not longer mind the erratic English, same case with Nightwish (which is a great band, if not the best in its genre) and Dark Moor. Other bands that deserve my honorable attention are of course Blind Guardian (who, imo, worship elves- and not per se the pansy elves, but more like the epic High Elves of the Silmarillion), The Storyteller, and Falconer. Freedom Call ain't bad if you can handle the singer's outrageous voice, and I have also good experiences with Dream Evil. Any band with hoarse screaming in it ain't my stuff, that's just one bridge too far. For a good link to find out what else's out there, try Metalstorm.ee: http://www.metalstorm.ee/home/index.php I have found it a great way to find other bands similar to the ones I already knew. But honestly, best Metal music in a D&D-session or me would still be Apocalyptica. |
| Lunas_Argent11-07-06, 10:26 AM | Never even heard of most of these bands til I read this thread, but I just had to go to youtube and check out "Kill The Orcs" myself. Not bad. The guy with the thors hammer around his neck kinda looks like a 1/2 orc himself though.:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:(sorry, its the only headbanging smily I could find) |

Nothing remotely elven about it in any way! |
| angryman11-07-06, 10:59 AM | Metallica did not one but two songs about Cthulu. (The thing that should not be, the call of ktulu) |
| CharlieRock11-07-06, 11:41 AM | Oh FFS  :weep: Now THAT to me sounds like it would be better sung as "kill the elves" by a bunch of orcs! Nothing remotely elven about it in any way! Orc Metal! :evillaugh |

A friend of mine gave me their album - Advance and Vanquish - last fall, and I listen to it all the time at work. Apparently, at least a few guys in the band are D&D players. On one of their tour blogs, they mention opening D&D minis boosters and checking out the figures while traveling between shows. I've been tempted to drop them a line and see if they'd want to swap t-shirts and other swag for D&D books. About 99% of the time I was working on Book of Nine Swords, I had 3 Inches of Blood, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest cranked on my iTunes. It's the best music for writing D&D stuff. |
| Anung_Un_Rama11-07-06, 12:57 PM | About 99% of the time I was working on Book of Nine Swords, I had 3 Inches of Blood, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest cranked on my iTunes. | rizzard11-07-06, 01:06 PM | for all you guys i'd reccomend Cirith ungol, C average, blind guardian, and the thrones. none of it is black or death metal but it's all very fantasy oriented and heavy |
| Dragon Snack11-07-06, 01:09 PM | Argh! Manowar. The cheesiest metal band existing. Come on, this is genre that includes Twisted Sister!* Spandex and Metal was an unfortunate convergence, but the fact remains when Metal was at it's height most bands wore it. *shudder* *That doesn't mean I'm not an SMF (Under The Blade and I Am, I'm Me are still among my favorite songs). When anyone mentions Man-O-War I have to chime in with the fact that one of my Fraternity brothers mothers used to cut the drummers hair... Metallica did not one but two songs about Cthulu. (The thing that should not be, the call of ktulu) Back when they were cool. *sigh* |
| rizzard11-07-06, 01:24 PM | i can't stand dragon force it's to much and just doesn't sound good, i'd rather listen to Sky forgerhttp://www.myspace.com/skyforgerofficial , latvian pagan folk metal thats what dwarves would listen to. elves would totally rock bling gaurdianhttp://www.myspace.com/blindguardian i think goblinoids would listen to Burzumhttp://www.myspace.com/vargvikernesburzum Necromantic warlords totally dig immortalhttp://www.myspace.com/immortal12 I think barbarian tribes of the frigid north would dig the thrones especially "Anguish of Bears" http://www.myspace.com/thronestour |
| rizzard11-07-06, 01:30 PM | oh and here is cirith ungol it some fun stuff http://www.myspace.com/cirithungol |
| Lunas_Argent11-07-06, 02:16 PM | Back when they were cool. *sigh* Gotta agree with you on that. As far as Im concerned, their black album was the last time they were cool (and even then you could see the downfall of their cool on the horizon) |
| DreamerInsane11-07-06, 02:37 PM | If you're into over-the-top powermetal about killing orcs, then Blind Guardian is probably a band you'd want to look in to. No. Overproduced power, maybe. About killing orcs? No. Just no. And, some humor: http://youtube.com/watch?v=joylAVP6v5M |
| yossarius11-07-06, 06:26 PM | Am I the only person who associates most metal with Orcs rather than elves? I mean its just not very Elfy stuff is it....far more Orcish.... Anyone who says this definitely hasn't read an Eberron. There the elves of Valenar could be described as "the screaming horde," while some of the orcs could be described as "tree-hugging hippies." (Originally posted by NYYSJAN, I think) I picture elven metal as being very nuanced, with complex jazz time signatures and cascading key changes, rather than just 4/4 time signature and blues keys tuned in "dropped D." Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with that. |
| CryoSilver11-07-06, 07:47 PM | Melodic death metal... |
| angryman11-07-06, 09:16 PM | Gotta agree with you on that. As far as Im concerned, their black album was the last time they were cool (and even then you could see the downfall of their cool on the horizon) Yeah, I like the black album, and I'll even admit to liking some of the newer stuff (though not as Metallica music), but they've gone weird and have been for 15 years. :( |
| Lunas_Argent11-08-06, 04:11 AM | Yeah, and not wierd in a cool way either |
| CharlieRock11-08-06, 04:58 AM | I heard that Steven Lynch(?) song before, still funny though  |
| CoyoteUK11-08-06, 05:54 AM | Anyone who says this definitely hasn't read an Eberron. Ack, thats that *mumble* with lightning powered trains innit :( There the elves of Valenar could be described as "the screaming horde," while some of the orcs could be described as "tree-hugging hippies." (Originally posted by NYYSJAN, I think) Ah, well I was going by "real" elves (you know, as in ones with some link to how they've been represented for the last, oh, squillion years!) :D Fey. Not techy vampy things :D |
| DreamerInsane11-08-06, 07:44 AM | I heard that Steven Lynch(?) song before, still funny though  "It's D&D - summoning the demons of Hell!" |
| Anung_Un_Rama11-08-06, 10:36 AM | Ever since my friends and I heard the Steven Lynch D&D song we call our gaming room "the Dragon's Tomb." And now we tell warlock jokes. Or at least, we do moreso now. |
| elondir11-08-06, 02:30 PM | I just discovered a band called Kilmetsan Druidi that might be good for D&D. They're kind of like Lyfthrasyr (spelling?). |
| Prak, the Mad11-08-06, 06:30 PM | what about Angel Witch? was listening to Angel of Death and it seemed somewhat FRPG-ish... |
| AidanPryde11-09-06, 06:29 PM | you guys are leaving out some really good bands that can associated with D&D, Hammerfall, The Sword, Demons & Wizards, Doomsword, Iced Earth, maybe. Even the good ole Iron Maiden has several songs. And lets not forget Dethklok. I am actually considering shaping an encounter around one of their songs. And yes Manowar is cheesy, but they dont care and neither do I. |
| Anung_Un_Rama11-09-06, 09:55 PM | And lets not forget Dethklok. I am actually considering shaping an encounter around one of their songs. Awaken Mustakrakish (sp?) would be an awesome encounter song. Oh, and Demons & Wizards is amazing. Terror Train! |
| Prak, the Mad11-09-06, 11:53 PM | you guys are leaving out some really good bands that can associated with D&D, Hammerfall, The Sword, Demons & Wizards, Doomsword, Iced Earth, maybe. Even the good ole Iron Maiden has several songs. And lets not forget Dethklok. I am actually considering shaping an encounter around one of their songs. And yes Manowar is cheesy, but they dont care and neither do I. might I be able to point you towards my Dethklok-inspired PrC, the Abyssal Lyrist? It should be towards the top of the PrC forum... |
| dnddreamer11-10-06, 04:57 AM | Currently in the group I'm in right now, we have such a diverse group that one can't settle on music to listen to without offending others. But I remember back in 80's and 90's simply listening to Slayer and Bolt Thrower during those games with my metal friends. Also, Dio does some good work to D&D style music if not to cheesy. Lastly, someone mentioned the Lynch song...wondering if any of you have ever heard Clutch's ode to D&D called "24 Earth Years". I've pasted the lyrics because I get a kick out of them every time I hear them. "24 Earth Years" -- Clutch I don't know, but I've been told I'm about twenty-four Earth years old. and come my next birthday it'll be a quarter century. I don't know, but I have heard a gnome from the old world say these words, "Take a look what the cat dragged in; a red woodpecker and two of my kin." Back in 1980, we played the AD&D. That game was harder than the Elfstones of Shanara. My character was baffling, a druid, wizard, halfling. On top of that he was master of psionic powers. Bring on the hordes, we have the sword that smote the Goblin of Gygaxnor. Pray that the sisters name us as victors of the twenty sided die. I don't know, but I've been told I'm about twenty-four Earth years old. and come my next birthday it'll be a quarter century. I don't know, but I have heard a gnome from the old world say these words, "Take a look what the cat dragged in; a dead woodpecker and two of my kin." Long ago in Middle Earth a man could measure all his worth by his blade and by his staff, and by the runes on his epitaph. Go mount your horse and ride up north to seek the Baron of the Frozen Berg. Ask for assistance in the resistance of the twenty sided die. I don't know, but I've been told I'm about twenty-four Earth years old. and come my next birthday it'll be a quarter century. I don't know, but I have heard a gnome from the old world say these words, "Take a look what the cat dragged in; a dead woodpecker and two of my kin." Saw Mazes and Monsters, Tom Hanks completely bonkers. He spoke what he doth speaketh in Elizabethan. Sad lad, he really couldn't handle starting from scratch on the very first level But he died the death of a warrior. A legend grows yearly by way of a local song. The bishop and castle move in defense of pawns. I'm rolling, I'm tumbling a twenty sided die. A legend grows yearly by way of local song. I don't know, but I've been told I'm about twenty-four Earth years old. and come my next birthday it'll be a quarter century. I don't know, but I have heard a gnome from the old world say these words, "Take a look what the cat dragged in; a dead woodpecker and two of my kin." |

It's German, thank you very much. ;) I rather think that orcish sounds like a eastern european language. Don't know which one, though. |

| elondir11-17-06, 09:01 AM | Anyone who says this definitely hasn't read an Eberron. I see that more as a dwarf thing - it's more mechanical. I picture elves as more gothic folk metal. My thoughts: Elf bands: Elf, Dio, Opeth, Agalloch, skyclad, 90's cradle of filth, dream theater, eastern european folk music (anything woodsy and often complex) Dwarf bands: meshuggah, mastodon, 90's tool (time changes, mechanical feel) Warforged bands: front line assembly, kraftwerk, orbital, aphex twin, VNV nation, funker vogt, front 242, ministry, fear factory (industrial and techno) Orc bands: nile, cannibal corpse, early carcass, slayer, sepultura, soulfly (grindcore, thrash, brutal death metal, and tribal metal) Gnome bands: Syd Barret-era Pink Floyd (come on they have a song called "The Gnome"), meshuggah, mastodon, dream theater, primus, dragonforce (more focus on technique) Daelkyr Halfblood bands: John Zorn's Naked City, Fantomas, early Dillinger Escape Plan, merzbow, yoko ono, skinny puppy, sonic youth EPs, GWAR, Yamatsuka Eye Kalashtar bands: Ravi Shankar (spelling?), Frederik Thordendal's Special Defects, George Harrison Tiefling bands: morbid angel, deicide, dimmu borgir, mayhem, behemoth. immortal (black metal) non-feral halfling bands: phish, the greatful dead, pink floyd feral halfling bands: napalm death, soilent green, nile, soulfly, sepultura |
