D&D Metal Slug? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Okay, let me explain. I had just recently purchased Metal Slug Anthology for the PS2, and almost as soon as I had started playing it, I thought, "What if Metal Slug was D&D themed?"

So, what about it? If there was a D&D edition of Metal Slug, who would be the characters? What about the bosses? Where would each level take place? And what about the awesome weapon set?

My take would be that Redgar, Mialee, Lidda, and Jozan would replace Marco, Tarma, Eri, and Fio. If we included Nadia and Trevor, those would be Ember and Tordek respectively. And if we thought about MS6, which has Ralf and Clark from Ikari Warriors (and more recognizably King of Fighters), I'd put those as special WotC people, like R.A. Salvatore and Keith Baker.

Bosses would be exceptionally hard to recreate in the Metal Slug style, as most good baddies aren't traditionally made to fill half a screen. A definite boss would be the Gargantuan Red Dragon, and I was thinking perhaps a Lich of some sort. Other good types would be a hydra, and final bosses would have be along the diety line, like a giant version of Vecna or Demogorgon.

I thought of levels predominately taking place in the various cityscapes of D&D as a collective whole. Like a level set in Waterdeep or one in Sharn. I also thought about the classic dungeons, like The Tomb of Horrors or White Plume Mountain. The sort of places that just sound like epic Metal Slug territory.

And finally, the weapon boosts would most likely be magic spells. Most notably, I considered the Enemy Chaser to the Magic Missile spell. Another example would be the Flame Shot to the Fireball spell.

So, anyone else a Slug fan and willing to give this a shot? While it sounds hard to pull off, if it was pulled correctly it would totally rock.

i think D20 modern would be a better place to start for a metal slug campaign. but great idea!

I was thinking that myself, but then I thought of a more 'modernized' version of D&D. In the world I'd envisioned, the githyanki and githzerai were rival mafia families, skeletons committed gang-like activities, and so on. (I'd be better off not mentioning the mayor's a red dragon... oops.)

Anyways, the Metal Slug I'd envisioned had a much smaller scope, as it was more based in a singular city. The main characters are as follows:

Gackt-a lizardfolk assassin (style-wise, think Hitman)
Joanna-a yuan-ti pureblood soldier (similar in look to Blue Mary of KOF)
Morris-an air gensai police officer (similar to Bruce Willis in Sin City, only younger)
Dorian-a drow army regular (almost less army and more like Domino)

That was about as far as I got. I'm sure there gotta be more somewhere in my dinky little head, but right now I'm too tired.

Actually, there multiple versions of a Metal Slug. If there's one thing Metal Slug's should be known for, it's the various Slugs. The original Slug is more or less a compact one-man tank with a ballistic cannon and two gatling guns attached to the back. There are mech versions of the Slug, and those are walking bipedal tanks which vary in equipment, from gatling guns to mech fists. There several animal versions of Slugs, like the Camel Slug or the Donkey Slug. Basically, if you can put a cannon and two gatling weapons on it, it can be a Slug.

I can't remember how many various types of Slugs there are, and I'm not too keen on d20 Modern rules, so I'm not too sure I could post rules for Metal Slugs. And aside from that, Metal Slugs are supposed to be intensely powerful. I think from a DM standpoint, that might let the players get overpowered too quickly. Unless there was a backup plan of some sort...

perhaps just post rules for the original slug as a magic item similar to the apparatus of kwalish
