Even carnival games would qualify if there were separate rules for them, yet they integrated the D&D system.

Well, there was an adventure called the Great Halfling Bayou Boat Race that had as the hook for the entire adventure a boat race complete with rules for how far ahead or behind others you were when certain encounters happened. It was a great adventure.

And there have been a number of Dragon articles with rules for jousting.
