| Aristulous04-19-04, 09:26 AM | They are making the movie. Read and weep my fellow D&D geeks. Hopefully a "true" D&D fan will win a big prize powerball and make a D&D movie with a Forgotten Realms or Greyhawk setting. Obviously we cant rely on established D&D corporation forces to make even a mediocre one. Talk about demoralizing... cut and pasted this info from the following link: http://www.gamewyrd.com/echoes/others2_10.php Dungeons and Dragons movie sequel: There are reports of a sequel to the Dungeons and Dragons movie. The first film was promoted as Dungeons and Dragons: The Movie in the United Kingdom and this lends some weight to the rumors the sequel will be called Dungeons and Dragons: The Sequel. Little is known about the plot but it is believed to involve an evil wizard stealing a powerful black orb. Zinc Entertainment is known to be taking the lead and working with Marching Band Productions and Sweetpea Entertainment in order to put the movie together. Zinc Entertainment is a division of Joel Silver’s Silver Pictures. Joel Silver, famous for producing the Matrix trilogy, was the executive producer of the first DnD movie. The film is due for release early in 2004. Additional rumor news... it gets worse if that's possible. http://www.gamingreport.com/article.php?sid=12443 concerning the D&D 2 Movie, we have heard back from one of our contacts in the industry concerning the film. The comments from the email are below: "It is being worked on. Although I have not actually seen the script myself I do have a confirmation from a friend, (name withheld) very close to the film, that it will herald the return of many of the characters from the original movie. The script has been bouncing all over the higher echelons of the industry for feedback, most of which, it is my understanding, has been mild. The movie is to take place several years after the original and will revolve around a classic adventure theme. I would not be surprised if this one doesn't make it to big screens as the talk I have been hearing amongst my peers is not as positive as would be liked. * Quote from Aristulous * <sighs> "Someday we will have a movie worth watching... someday”. |

| Falstaff the Fighter04-19-04, 09:36 AM | NO! Man, it will really suck now, especially after the goodness that was Lord of the Rings. It will be like getting a mouthful of sewer water after you have sipped the fabled ambrosia. At least they could try and make an innovative plot with new characters and a big budget. Instead, it looks like another low budget crap fest. If money is an issue, make an animated movie. I would rather see a decent animated film than another D&D movie like the last one. The only saving grace of that whole movie was Richard O' Brian being in it. |

If they used special effects comparable to the first Star wars back in 1977 it would be just fine. The money could have been forgiven had the movie been made with even a sub-par story line or even "average" acting engagement. There was nothing redeeming about this movie. It was/is and now will BE yet another embarrassment to us as gamers. You'd think they would just let us ride the high with LOTR. A room full of "clustered" Alienware computers would create decent special effects. Figure $100,000 for special effects hardware. A decent "Made for Video" movie could be made within a budget of say... 5-10 Mil. Pretty cheap by todays' standards. There are A LOT of gifted hungary actors looking for any sort of break out surprise hit... or even a sleeper hit. THe D&D fans alone would carry a mediocre movie to a profit. It would also force the movie to focus on more character depth like in the 1st Star Wars movie (1977) vs just some fancy fireworks like the current Star Wars movies are doing. Amazing LOTR was able to pull off both aspects. Its a shame this pile of orc dung is probably going to get produced. I hope I'm not putting orc dung to a lower standard than what it deserves...<g>. |
| Seeker9504-19-04, 10:48 AM | This is sooo coool! The original movie was fantastic! It captured the true essence of Dungeons & Dragons and made it accessible to both the hard core RPG player and the uninitiated audience member alike. It contained a deep sense of the archetypal struggle between good and evil while focusing enough attention of character development to truly let us into the minds and psyche of the main protagonists. The sequel is long overdue. I can only pray that it lives up to the high standards set by the original. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . *Gotcha!* :P |

Sucks, no? They (Wizards/Powers That Be) could at least put out a press release denouncing their support or affiliation with this sequel that’s being made. The Military does the same with movies such as GI JANE that grossly misinterprets their organization. http://www.vikingphoenix.com/news/stn/1997/pirn9760.htm Okay... they seriously “screwed the pooch” with the first movie… it defies explanation to condone yet a 2nd one. "Silence" is not acceptable. |
| Roland the Crownbreaker04-19-04, 11:05 AM | I was one of the many people who was duped into spending money on that lame crap-fest. But a movie does not need success in order to justify a sequel. Look at how many lame Friday the XIII movies have been made. The only good thing about the D&D movie was the Nodwick parody it spawned. "I MUST have a rod of red dragon control! Not only will it give me ultimate power, but it will give my wardrobe the 'Oomph' it so desperatly needs!" "They might know something at the colledge of sorcery, I'm sure an inquisitive bludgeoning can be arranged." "It's a plan! Now Damodar, look cooly enigmatic while I laugh maniacly! Bwuhahahaha!" |
| LordofIllusions04-19-04, 11:39 AM | The DnD movie was horrible. Marlon Wayans made me laugh but the female elf needed some serious acting lessons(I mean come on: Wrong Hu-*pauses*man. She sounded like Captain Kirk.). The female mage was not far behind the elf(Her acting was almost as bad.). The hero was a moron and the fight scenes looked so ......"choreographed"(They could have at least tried to make it look real.). Who was the bald headed guy with the stereotypical bad guy lines and the blue lipstick on ? What was the deal with the dwarf that did not even look like a dwarf ? Their armor looked like plastic, the weapons looked fake. They better shoot this guy before they put out the next one. ~~~ |
| nik197904-19-04, 11:54 AM | I liked the "Gamers Movie" (did i get that right?) That is the direction i hope future DnD movies would go... IF they don't have the budget comic book movies have these days. IMO any fantasy or sci-fi movie that was made into a RPG could be considered a gamer movie... Everytime my non-gamer friends or cousins bring up DnD they remind me of that movie... talk about being embarassed! |
| Wulfgar04-19-04, 12:00 PM | Ahhhhhh-hahahahaha-haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Oh, God, we're in Hell. There's no other explanation. |
| ZeshinX04-19-04, 12:34 PM | Oh, goodie. LotR finally shows Hollywood that fantasy can be profitable, and then WotC comes along and gives the go ahead for a second D&D movie crap-fest, taking a giant leap backward for fantasy in Hollywood. Thanks. Keep up the predictable work. |
| LordofIllusions04-19-04, 12:54 PM | LoL! |
| Falstaff the Fighter04-19-04, 12:58 PM | What was up with the blue lipstick? It was like they were fighting Boy George's evil cousin. I am afraid of this thing. I mean, we fantasy fans, for the first time since Conan, have a real chance at seeing some of the great fantasy books get films, like Elric. But this could be the end of it all. |
| Aristulous04-19-04, 01:04 PM | I would have to honestly say that the only entertainment I received from this movie were the reviews from Amazon.com buyers. I burst out loud with a few of the following quotes: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00003CXQM/ref=cm_rev_prev/103-4571332-4005400?v=glance&s=dvd&vi=customer-reviews&show=-submittime&start-at=1 "When someone dies this cheerful score starts in the background with fanfares and chimes!" "There's one random character that keeps flicking his tongue out - I imagine a computer generated serpentine tongue was supposed to be added, but the movie makers left it untouched, and now you have some goofy looking guy sticking out his tongue now and then." "the worst, most vile part of the movie - the one that screams "Yea, chump, we really did put this in the movie" "-Dragons are mindless lizards? -Gold Dragon gets killed by a collapsing gate? -A Beholder is reduced to being some sort of snoozing security guard? -Blue Lips? -Magic library not protected, not even by magic? -Snails dies, whats the matter, no clerics? -Thieves scream when doing "a job" and also wear stolen merchandise on their head -3 room "maze" has never been completed?" "I will say that you know a film is ENJOYABLY bad when the plot surround three pairs of sexually ambiguous couples, all in relentless pursuit of something called 'The Rod'." The GOOD NEWS !!! Barnes and Nobles.com reviewers gave it 5 STARS !!! Okay so maybe there were only 2 people posting... probably the director's Mom and the other was whoever invested his money in this piece of trash... I think I'm going to post my own review there to bring it back to reality. 5 STARS is rather amusing for it's rating...<LOL> http://video.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?userid=O9t1zot6QB&EAN=794043532726&FRM=0&itm=2 |
| MonkeyPaladin04-19-04, 07:57 PM | >If money is an issue, make an animated movie. I would rather see a decent animated film than another D&D movie like the last one.< You have got to be kidding me. You think animated movies are cheaper? Disney spends around 200 million dollars to make an animated feature. Pixar puts up around 120 million for their 3-D movies, and now that they've really taken off the budgets will likely go up. A lot of the time they expect to take a loss on the animated movie but make it back on the merchandise and DVDs. Even a TV show like the Simpsons has a budget of 2 million per episode, and that's with them shipping the in-between work overseas. Looking at D&D I don't think they had nearly that budget. Of course, if they had a good script, directing, and acting I wouldn't give a **** about a special effects budget, but since those sucked they could at least have given us something cool to look at. (To be fair to the actors, Anthony Hopkins couldn't have worked with that dialogue.) |
| Draconae04-19-04, 08:39 PM | Well, I must say that the props in D&D 1 were pretty budget. Big budget my foot. Another one might be good, if they tried this time. The only fantasy movies worth making are good ones. After LOTR that is. |
| Seeker9504-19-04, 10:03 PM | Although we are all berating the movie, it should be noted that the first one made a profit. In the world of commercial movie making, that is all that matters. |
| Thailfi04-19-04, 10:34 PM | They are making another D&D movie? Man, I was enjoying life, I was going to have more kids, but now along comes another sign of the apocalypse. I guess I better grab my "The End is Near" sign and start running around screaming like a maniac. |
| Ogre4Hire04-19-04, 10:45 PM | I predict that the sequel will be better than the first one... IF ONLY FOR THE FACT THAT IT COULD NOT POSSIBLY BE WORSE!!! |

In the words of "Pip" Vandergeld: "... all the gamer types who spent so much time playing Dungeons and Dragons, the Game simply deserved better. Theirs can be a trying road in the glare of normal society, and this did nothing to improve the whole gamer image. As word passed concerning my quest, I got some idea as to the anger and dismay this movie caused as former D&D players emerged to assist me. I am an unlikely messenger but…as penance for my snooty ways (and a break from gazing in abject horror at things like bloody newborns being slung around by their umbilical cords), I decided to review Dungeons and Dragons, the Movie." Cheers. and I look forward to a real cheesefeast! Jabootu hath you all! |
| Tenzhi04-20-04, 06:14 AM | The dwarf did a spinning sweep. I have to like a movie where a dwarf does a spinning sweep. Now, I'm not saying it was a good movie in the traditional sense of the word, but I liked it in much the same way as I liked Deathstalker (both the first movie and the 30 minutes or so of total new footage that was edited into clips from the first movie to make the 3 sequels). That said, I think the sequel could be even BETTER than the first movie by being WORSE than the first movie. |
| Big Dawg04-20-04, 09:54 AM | that it will herald the return of many of the characters from the original movie. D&D 2: The search for smails! Well I can assure you I will not spend a penny on any movie that has Marlon Waynes in it. 86 The **** actors and maybe I'll pay to see it. | Sulaco04-20-04, 12:04 PM | My 4-step plan to improving a D&D sequel: 1) Get a competant writer 2) Get a competant director 3) Get a decent effects company 4) Start the film with the realization that the crappy ending of the first movie was just a dream and that the original, downer ending was what really happened. |

| Ronin Mantis04-20-04, 08:39 PM | Does anybody remember the D&D-esque show that came out in the 80's?? It was done tongue-in-cheek and was rather good... as far as I remember... The only problem is that I was about 10 at the time. The first movie was ..... entertaining... If you didn't look at it as a D&D movie and only as a fanatsy movie... My wife watching it anf she is not a D&D fan. She said the same... it was entertaining. Don't forget... Hollywood wants to make something that fits 2 basic criteria: 1) Doesn't have to be heavily explained... IE: the viewer does not have to be taught about the D&D world prior to watching the movie. 2) A balance in story and action must be made to satisfy the general public who could care less about the D&D world and just want to see a sword being swung... This inherently leads to a weak storyline and action overshadowing acting.... Any actor can scream and die. |

| Ronin Mantis04-21-04, 08:18 AM | the guy playing Darth Maul is the same guy who did toad in You are correct... The actors name is Ray Park. During every one of his fighting sequeces he does some sort of spin move. He did it in Episode I, (as Darth Maul) in X-Men (as the Toad) and also Sleepy Hollow. (I beleive as the Ax wielding Headless Horseman) . He is an incredibly talented Martial Artist. He holds a second degree Black Belt in Wushu |

| ZeshinX04-21-04, 10:12 AM | Geez. And the MPAA wonders why piracy of movies is so prevelant these days. It's crap-fests like the D&D movie (and heaven help us all) sequels to crap-fests that feed the piracy bug. Who the hell wants to spend money on movies like this? Sheesh. Sadly, there is only one way to save the D&D movies. PETER JACKSON Hell, if he'll make a King Kong movie.... |
| LordofIllusions04-21-04, 10:32 AM | The only thing interesting about that movie was Marlon Wayans. He was funny. The female wizard was just a horrible actress. She should have had a part in one of those corny Charlie's Angels movies. The hero was a geek and a reject from that corny Superman show. The elf was a moron and the Dwarf looked so fake and was extremely corny. And that is only the good guys I am talking about! Don't let me get started on the villains ~~~ |

After all, it says D&D, and she knows you're into that sorta thing. (In other words, relax. Bad movies get made all the time. Okay, let me hijack this thread... What possible casting calls could we make for this movie to either... 1) Actually have a chance of being good. 2) Be laughably bad instead of just bad. I can't think of any that could save this movie if any of the same people from the first have any creative control, but as for the second option... A gnomish druid played by an aging Gary Coleman teams up with an eccentric human wizard played by Christopher Walken. Together they travel through the lands toward the capitol to meet their last party member--a half-orc bard played by Robin Williams. Who cares what the plot is at that point? |

| LordofIllusions04-22-04, 09:53 AM | Originally posted by ZeshinX Yeah. Funny in the sense that his dialogue and character belonged in the 20/21st century, not in some obscure middle ages setting. Funny in the sense that the acting skills of all of the other actors(Other than Marlon who although goofy as all get out can at least act a little.) belonged in a closet somewhere with a lock on it. The female mage was talking like a white valley girl from California somewhere. Definitely not suitable to the middle ages. The emperess was a rip-off from the first Star Wars movie, a horrible actress, and was always seen in a moronic outfit. Queen Amadala anyone ? At least Natalie Portman could act a little. This girl(The so called Emperess  ) was talking as if she was reading cue cards. Profion was a nerd that dropped out of acting school way too soon. The guy with the blue lips looked like an action figure(Where did they get that cheesy armor from ?) and was fighting like he was Neo from the Matrix(In the scene where Marlon died.). And why was he always whispering, did he have a frog in his throat ? The hero was a geek with a Han Solo outfit on and was an extremely bad actor as well(Go back to Lois and Clark boy.). The whole : Noooooooooooooooo, when Marlon died was just way overdone. The female elf was the epitome of bad acting(Along with the white female mage, Profion, etc.) and cheap costumes. Her armor looked like plastic and the other elves looked like Ewoks wearing cloaks. The one elf that healed the nerd looked like a vulcan. Live long and prosper! All in all the only worthwhile actor was Marlon. If he was talking like he is from this time period everyone in that movie was and they were doing a bad job of it to boot. Marlon's goofiness was the only thing that kept me watching it. ~~~ |

If I actually came to a Dungeons and Dragons movie to see bland looking valley girls that cannot act I might have agreed with you(If I wanted to see female morons jumping around on the screen with hardly any acting skills I would have went to see Charlie's Angels 1 & 2. ). But since I came to see an adventure movie(With my wife might I add.) I have to disagree with you. The Dwarf however was a hot mess. That bright orange beard, the height thing, and the overacting(All of that meat stuck in his beard and that hat with the horn on it just made him look even dumber.). Plus he kept trying to be funny and was not funny at all. We cried when Marlon died because we knew that we were left with nothing but the crappy actors from then on. ~~~ |

Outstanding!:heehee What possible casting calls could we make for this movie to either... Baby, Walken is gold and belongs on the good movie list not the so bad it's funny list. For part 1: (Money Making Machine) Christopher Walken - Evil Human Necromancer/Cleric Edward Nortan - Elf Ranger Angilina Jolie - Human Rogue Part 2: So bad it's funny (I'll still see it) Steven Segal - Human Monk Corey Feldman - Human Rogue/Fighter Bring back who ever played atrau in the 1st Neverending story! Part 3: Complete Poop! (I won't see it) The same cast as before |

| Utumno04-22-04, 01:11 PM | Better movie 1. Patrick Stewart. Aging Paladin. The man has built a career on delivering the cheesiest of lines with utter and complete conviction. "We must retrieve the magical rod that controls the red dragons." If he would say it it would sound cool. 2. Jack Black. Inept Rogue. If there is any one who could pull off a goofy sidekick role it would be him. 3. Alan Rickman. Villian. He has just the right amount of loathsome to charasmatic to work. 4. Villians Right hand man. Tim Roth. That guy just creeps me out sometimes. Just have him reprise his character in "The Musketeer" 5. Director. Len Wiseman. A relative unknown. Directed "Underworld" and was the art director on "Stargate" his films have a strong visual dynaminc, but are light on story and acting, with the above included on the project though it would be spectacular. Bad 1. Kevin Costner. Brooding ***** of a half elf ranger. Ahhh one need look no further than Kevin Costner when trying to make a bad movie. He was in a few good ones "Robin Hood", "JFK", but they were only good despite him being in them. 2. Pauly Shore. Bumbling Stoner Sidekick. I think it's just about time to dust off this old chestnut and bring Pauly out of retirement. Him playing opposite Costner would allow them to both display their polar opposite bad acting techniques. Serious overacting, vs. goofy overacting. Pure Gold! 3. John Travolta. Villian. "Battlefield Earth." Nuff said. 4. The Rock. Big Bad Ass MFr. Normally I like the rock. I especially liked "The Rundown" but with this cast behind him and his questionable acting ability this would move the movie from farcical to outright laugh out loud unintentional slapstick. 5. Kevin Costner. Director. The only thing Kevin does worse than act is direct especially when he is directing himself. This would also have the benefit of making the movie an "epic" so the fun would last 3+ hours. YAY!!! |
| Big Dawg04-22-04, 03:04 PM | Utumno I like Tim Roth! he's a good one. |
| Ogre4Hire04-22-04, 03:13 PM | If you wanted the movie to really be bad, you should use Stallone or Van Dam as the main villian's big brawny fighter sidekick.:tantrum: |
| zodiki04-22-04, 03:37 PM | Another D&D movie? Cool. We'll love to talk about it if it's great and we'll love to talk about it if it bites - not to mention all the talking about it until it gets made. It's a win-win scenario. |

| Roland the Crownbreaker04-22-04, 06:57 PM | Just please leave the "inept sidekick" out of all future movies. Light moments can be made without characters whose only purpose is to be laughed at. Any movie not billed as a comedy that falls upon this lame method immediately loses all credibility in my eyes. |

And leave out the action figure villain, the stereotypical arch-villain, the non-acting valley girl mage, the cheesy she-elf that sounds like Captain Kirk, the Superman sitcom reject, the phony-looking dragons, the cheesy armor, the plastic rod of dragon control, the......Aaaah just don't make the movie period! ~~~ |

The difference is that Vin seems to actually think that he can act, while Stallone and Van Dam both know that the movies they make usually end up smelling like a Hill Giant's nasty old, dirty sweatsocks.:mymy: |
| LordofIllusions04-22-04, 07:15 PM | His name cannot really be Vin Diesel that has to be a stage name or something. ~~~ |
| Wil_Hyral04-22-04, 08:35 PM | I hope the Olsen twins are in it! |
