Anyone else see the preview to this? It looks like it might be a serious attempt at it unlike the one I saw in the theatres.

It's something like "Rise of the Dragon God" or close to it. Maybe we'll see some Tiamat/Bahamut action.

I have mine set to tape it, I can't wait!
SinisterSeraph

09-29-05, 09:01 PM
I CAN wait. You only have to kick this dog once to get the point across.

I really do hope this is better than the first one, but given the track record of Sci-Fi movies not starring Bruce (Chin of God) Campbell, coupled with the previous bloodletting that was the first flick, I see no good precedents here. I even asked my Magic 8-ball, and it just rolled onto the floor and broke at the mention of this sequel. I'm pretty sure it was trying to commit suicide...

No prob.

Seriously, I do hope this turns out good, but I'm not holding my breath. I think they should just spend the cash and do one of the big DnD novel sets as a film. Dragonlance or the Dark Elf trilogy could possibly be as big a draw as the LotR was, and be a really good promotion of the hobby at large, and DnD specifically. Plus Roald Jaffe lives in fear of this happening, so yeah, it's a win/win. :D

I haven't seen any previews for it, though I did find a very small bit of info posted about it online a week or so ago.

You can see info on scifi.com. They have made a few pretty good movies, and they are making some rather good television at the moment.

I've got my fingers crossed, but who knows?

The first one just sucked.
At our gaming table we loose 2000 XP if we call the movie by anything other than "that movie that was called Dungeons and Dragons." (It's 150 XP for even mentioning it at first. :P )

It's sooooo importante to one of my friends, he's Pirating it . Some people are A-D-D-I-C-T-E-D. No questions asked, hands down if you ask me.

Anyway, I'll give it a look. I haven't personally seen the orginal, but I've heard enough about it...

The first one was beyond horrible, easily one of the worst movies ever made. So sad. My friend and I couldn't even MSTie it. We considered stopping the tape and not even finishing it.

I do not intend to bother with this one. It's hard to imagine how it could be any worse, but unless they flayed and boiled everyone involved with the first movie, I don't see how this could really be any good either.

It is being made by entirely different people. If Scifi gets it as right as Children of Dune or Battlestar Galactica, then it will be very good. If they miss, it will still be MSTable.

A friend of mine watched a version he aquired... He said it was actually worse than the first one (which we both hated). Then again he is SUPER critical of stuff.

We shall see.. I will of course watch it.

My brother saw the preview at Gen Con and said it looked pretty good. When the Q&A session started, one of the first questions was if anyone from the first film was involved. Answer: NO ONE from the first film (writer, director, sound guy, etc) was involved in making this movie, which bodes well I think.
He didn't know any of the actors in it and he couldn't answer my question on whether the rumor about Paris Hilton (that's a deal-breaker right there) was in it, but I'll watch it just to see.

The movie is done, and neither is the movie listed in Paris Hilton "acting" credits (her self-made sex tape is) nor is she listed in the movie credits. Ahh, but Bruce Payne, the actor that played Damodar (the dude with the blue lips) is in the second movie as the same character!

This means that the story is probably at least mildly associated with the first one.

Don't believe me? Check out Seeker's IMDB link.

*Very Minor Spoiler*

Wrath of the Dragon God is set 100 years after the events of the first movie. Bruce Payne (aka Damodar) is in it...but he doesn't have blue lipstick this time around.

I watched the movie again last night (thats 3 times now I have seen it) and it was just as enjoyable as the first time. Its much better than the first movie and I would definately recommend it to all D&D fans. Obviously its not Lord of the Rings, but when you consider the budget was less than 1/30th of the LOTR Trilogy I think you'll be amazed at how much they accomplished.

I'm sorry, but I'm not expecting much from it, although I will be watching.
Because, as we say around here...

Q: How can you tell a movie is going to suck?
A: Because it says "Sci Fi Original Picture" at the start of it.

I mean, for crying out loud, Man With the Screaming Brain was the FIRST movie Bruce Campbell, the legendary Chin himself, has EVER made that just plain wasn't funny, and it was a Sci-Fi Original.

Sci-Fi has got the touch of freaking death when it comes to making movies.

Well, I kind of liked Bruce Payne in the first one. Sure, he had some really crappy lines like that "...that has been done unto me" mouth filler he said outside the tavern, but he was pretty menacing.

Thank Gygax Paris isn't in it...Whew!

Yes there is.

Its being shown on american television this Saturday at 8:00 pm on the Sci-Fi Channel.

No word yet on the UK release as yet.

I have seen it and its an enjoyable movie, worth watching certainly, and possibly even meriting dvd purchase (I am going to pick up the dvd)
Koga:The ninja trick

10-05-05, 05:36 PM
The Koga liked the low-magick tone of the Dungeons&Dragons movie.

2 Rogues.
A dwarf fighter.
And a really cute wizard..

Course The Koga thinks there was some half-ass attempt at making Snail a half-dragon, or that might've been a rumor, don't know. He didn't do anything seemingly spectacular like The Koga would expect from a half-dragon, he didn't even speak draconic or slyvvan..

And even the wizard wasn't all fireballs and buffers. Mostly she casted divination and enchantment spells..

Yes this movie is a good one.. You can view it right now by searching for the internet title... Dungeon and Dragons: the Enternal Might

But if this movie was so good, it for one wouldn't be produced by a tv company and second it would of went into the theatres.

Darth Azalin>> The film's name was Dungeons and Dragons: The Elemental Might and has since been changed to Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God.

Right

My copy of this movie actually has the name of The Elemental Might (sorry about the previous title I listed).

So if you can't wait till Saturday and don't like to watch commericals you can try to get it with this original title.

I guess you have forgotten the previous experience of the first movie, it soured or scared players taste for the game and the film.

It bombed at the big screen, in the States, but made its money overseas. So now, no big screen, show on TV, sell DVD next month. Show overseas, and make more money there.

That is about it.

I have the first D&D money and I thought it was very cheesy.. hell any movie with a Wayan bros. in it will stink to high heaven.

But with that said I do like the movie... But there are others that are more believeable and better in the same genre.

record of lodoss war was the best d&d tv show/movie EVER. But thats my opinion. However it really felt like d&d even if it had budgit problems.

it made me almost cry when snails died, the shock of the that battle where marlen stops being a happy rogue and becomes a fighter. and then gets his ass kick by a lvl 10 fighter/lvl 2 wizard.( when the d&d movie came out i downloaded all the movie's character sheets.& yes i still have them all.)

also the action channel had the D&D movie and cut out some of the seens. like where Bruce Payne says " do not let them ascape-" and then they cut off from there. they also had the the other ending put in. with all that cutting the movie was realy freaken cool.

more importantly then it showing on the SciFi network in the US, will it air in canada? the only scifi channel i get in eastern canada is "Space", and after doing a quick search on their website, i can't even find a reference to the movie... i really want to see the new one (i think i'm the only person who didn't find it completely unredeemable, it just had that wayans guy in it and the plot was a little too bleh)

Well I have no idea what goes on up there...

http://www.scifi.com/dnd/ is where it can be found

I found it on one site that is selling pre orders at 21.95 will be out Nov 8, 2005 (well to bad they picked something so close to the release of Saga and EP3)

Well if you dont have scifi channel then you will have to Buy it retail or DL from a pay to view source. (other avenues aren't allowed)

Yeah, because if there's one thing that guarantees quality, it's a theatrical release!

Just like the first D&D movie... and uh... House of the Dead... and... well... anything by Paul W. S. Anderson.

Wait.

No.

I swear, Paul W.S. Anderson's career is proof that you really can sell your soul to the devil....

He, along with Uwe Boll, are to cinema what Lymphoma is to life expectancy. Painful, detrimental, and fatal.

Well based on all of the Star Wars (Saga - its the collection of 1-6 put in one box) I would have to say that ESP 3 was far better than any of the other 6 with only ESP 5 (being the 2nd best film out of that series)

Revenge of Sith comes out Nov 1. (Same date you can get Trials of Obi-Wan for SWG if you don't pre-order it)

I seem to recall back in 2001 many people saying "If the LotR movies were any good they wouldn't be directed by the guy who made Meet the Feebles"...

Well lets look at Peter Jackson for a moment...

Producer - He only has done LoTR (have to see if King Kong is any good)
Director - Same as above
Writer - filmography Same as above
Actor - an uncredited role in each of the LoTR franchise movies

So with all that said if it wasn't for a timeless story he would have no career...

Lets talk about Meet the Feebles

Date 1989
Tagline: Hell hath no fury like a hippo with a machine gun.
For the Cast: Peter Vere-Jones is the only one that stands out.

So was it a terrible film? Yep

Lets go back even further than 1989

Year of Bad Movie - 1971
Name - THX 1138
Boss - (Director/writer/ the whole works) George Lucas
For the Cast - A lot of big names (now) but back in 1971 (all nobodys)

So with that movie do you think George would be capable of making Star Wars?

In the words of AFI ... one movie doesn't make a career (funny how George Lucas did it)

So with all that said if it wasn't for a timeless story he would have no career...Not true, not true in the slightest. Peter Jackson had a well established career producing and directing slasher flicks before Lord of the Rings.

The Frighteners comes to mind as one PJ produced.
And you mentioned Meet the Feebles, which PJ also produced.
He also directed the movie Bad Taste.
He also co-produced, directed, and was a screenwriter for Heavenly Creatures.

Saying he has no career without LotR is just being ignorant. The man has a flimography list as long as your arm, I suggest you read it before tossing around that kind of accusation.
