i heard there were some d&d movies. What are they're titles and, more importantly, are they any good?

Don't. Seriously, they are terrible. They make you want to die while you watch them. They are AWEFUL. The titles, if you choose not to head this dire (and very true) warning, are Dungeons & Dragons; the Movie and Dungeons & Dragons; Wrath of the Dragon God. The second is by far the best, if there can be a best in this contest of schlocky "cinema." Just stay away- not even a Wayans brother playing an inept, low level rogue named Snails could make the first good, and seeing it makes you thoroughly pitty Jeremy Irons. Never again, I say! :gah:

I thought the only redeeming part of the first DnD movie was the Richard O'Brien appearance.

While I agree that the first movie was indeed subpar, the second one wasn't that bad. And there is a third "movie" as you will:

Dungeons and Dragons: Scourge of Worlds

Given the option gouge out your eyes instead of watching the first one.

On the other hand its actually possible to enjoy the second one, I know I did, I will admit its not the best movie but I thought it was good enough to watch

The first is pretty, that's about it.

The second is actually quite decent, it's no LOTR, but it has its moments.

The third? This is the first I've heard of it. Does anyone have details?

Personally, I thought the first one was about the same level as Hawk the Slayer; watchable and entertaining in places. Though in different areas; Dungeons & Dragons won out in the special effects area, but more or less everything else was mediocore to poor; Hawk the Slayer's plot and charactisation was about as good (i.e. not very), but it had the redeeming Utter Cheese factor. D&D would have gone from being average to fair, if they hadn't cut out so many scenes related to the plot (I have the DVD). Plus it didn't make a very good job of depicting, you know, Dragons (or the beholder, for that matter), which I thought was a bit off, being the iconic creature and all.

I hear the second one was better (the characters actually acted like a party, I understand, instead of individuals), but I've never got round to seeing it.

I wonder who wrote these movies?

The plot of both movies is less then ANY of my D&D games i ever playedm (and i don't claim to be the best DM is ether)

There is a Dragonlance animated movie being made, and Kiefer Sutherland is going to voice Raistlin. I hope this movie succeeds so I can see Raistlin in black!

Yes, I am a Raistlin fanboy.

There are three of 'em. Here's links to their IMDb pages:
Dungeons and Dragons (http://imdb.com/title/tt0190374/) It's only D&D in name, kinda like how the American Godzilla is only Godzilla in name. I'd give it a 1 out of 10. Srsly, this one isn't good.
Dungeons and Dragons 2: Wrath of the Dragon God. (http://imdb.com/title/tt0406728/) I found this one an enjoyable watch, although it was lacking in every element, especially since Black Dragons don't breath fire. I'd give it a 6.5/10.
D&D Scourge of Worlds (http://imdb.com/title/tt0375048/) The concept for this is really cool, as it's an interactive DVD where you decide what the party does, but it was too short, and could have used some improvement in every aspect as well. I'd give it a 6.5/10.

LOTR are proto-DND movies.
As are any fantasy movies.
Also most sci-fi and horror movies could easily be reworked as good D&D campaign settings/plot lines.
Rework them enough and you'll even seem astoundingly inspired, creative, and imaginative. Just look at George Lucas and his reworked amalgamation of other people's work, known as Star Wars.

Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the first D&D movie. Of course I went in with full knowledge that it was probably the worst movie ever made, but the people who told me that didn't realize that I had seen Plan 9 from Outer Space, which is much worse, and yet much better.

Anyway, if you take guilty pleasure in watching horridly bad movies that would cause the "straights" to decapitate their own children, I highly recommend D&D. I laughed all the way through, right through the tragic death of main characters, and when they showed gold dragons as evil and mindless and red dragons as evil and mindless. . . priceless.

Though I will say that when the dwarf joins the party it is EXACTLY like when someone shows up in the middle of a game session and rolls up a random character. And his motivation for staying with the group is pretty close to how most people imagine people playing dwarves.

I did like the second one (just that it was average made it tons better than the first one). Scourge of Worlds was pretty neat. Animation looks a bit off-tone, but gets the job done.

My friends and I watch the first D&D movie every so often. It's eminently MST3K-able.

Well the worst thing about the first one was they cut out the Dave Arneson cameo appearance. Yes, they cut the man who invented the game from the movie. I will admit, Dragon God had its moments, but blech, I'd rather just watch LotR.

Wrath of the Dragon God is pretty entertaining if you're looking for some cheap fun. The only thing that really bugs me about it is that my group role-plays better then those actors.
