If you're a DM or a player, do you like to have music during your session? Mostly music that makes things more moody,

one of my favorites.
Resident Evil 2 - Piano Theme

This is a thread where you recommend music etc ^^ ;)

I have a CD changer, and in each disc I have a different "setting".

One for standard adventuring, one relaxing, one for battle, etc.

I have used music from Everquest, Neverwinter Nights, Various Ambient music (Spacetime Continuum: Seabiscuit is great dungeon exploring music), Manowar, Nightwish, Enya, Classical Music, Metallica... probably more I can't remember.

I've found the soundtrack to Xenogears to be pretty good.

I mostly use movie soundtracks, but game music has been getting better lately too. I'll use whatever I can to backdrop the mood I want.

Some of my favorites:
13th Warrior
Bram Stokers Dracula
Conan the Barbarian
Halo 2 v1 and 2
Hitman and Hitman: Blood Money
Last of the Mohicans
Matrix
Mary Shelly's Frankenstein
National Treasure
Princess Bride
Robin Hood : Prince of Thieves
Van Helsing
Wrath of Khan

PowerMetal for every battle. Dragonforce bands like that.

For the rest of the time, if music is playing it is usually some sort of transient rock, a few of bucketheads albums work really well. But he also works really well for the battles with a few of his other albums.

I did an adventure based on Pink Floyd music. If you ever listen to Sheep, think Mind Flayers. Seriously.

(Also, The Wall is about gnome brothers and fallen paladins.)

3 Inches of Bood, Destroy th Orcs was great for a Mithral Hall campaign my Dm did. But in the end, it does not matter how you rock, or who you rock to, just as long as you rock.

Baldur's Gate soundtrack and X-Ray Dog CDs.

X-Ray Dog is a band that composses songs for trailers exclusively and they are amazing.
You probably have heared many songs by them.

I used to play E.S. Posthumus but I got bored.

Ensiferum, but it's cool :P They are some damned good viking metal, that's for sure. Check out Wintersun if you like Ensiferum, more good stuff.

I use the DnD soundtrack by Midnight Syndicate. I've only ever found it at GenCon though.

Others I like Include Eric Satie (classical musician) for scenes in towns, or Mussorgsky for some dungeon or town areas.

I've found that metal or anything with Lyrics is too distracting and no one pays attention to the game or they forget the Idea they were about to use.

I grabbed all of the music off all of my RPG's videogames and RPG style movies and put them into RPGAudiomixer. It allows me to group them into environments. I have General Background, Battle, Tavern, Travel, Market, Sad/Tragic, Spooky/Suspenseful, and Royalty/Divine as categories. RPGAudiomixer also has a 2nd track to add environments. I have things like battles, forest in the day, forest at night, busy city, busy market, tavern, thunderstorm, party with horse and cart, etc. as background sounds that blend with the music. It's a super easy program to manage so it requires virtually no effort on my part and the group really loves it. I trigger specific songs/environments (key plot moments) through links that I set up right in DM Genie. Just click on it and it starts the sounds/music for me. I'm kind of a sound nut, so I also pre-record a lot of important dialogues of the NPC's using MorphVox. When it comes time for the high cleric to give the players their information for their quest, I just click on a link in DM Genie and it plays the audio dialogue for me. That gives me a minute or two to catch up on notes, take a leak, or set up the next encounter.

I think all of these little things really add to the gaming session and the feedback from players has been overwhelmingly positive. The combination of running Maptools on an 8' screen as our VT and pumping all that great music and sound effects through a 6.1 system really gives us an immersive experience. :D
