MrGone 08-18-04, 04:07 PM	Evening folks... My group and I were recently interviewed on National Public Radio for the 30th anniversary of D&D and its popularity with popular culture. The reporter Rick Karr interviewed some of the writers and creators for the piece. It can be heard Thursday during their morning show EST 5:50, 7:50, 9:50, 11:50. It can also be found online at www.npr.org starting tomorrow as well. Listen up and enjoy!
Abaneth 08-18-04, 05:56 PM	My mom hates D&D but she loves to listen to NPR. Did you talk about satanism, occult etc.? If so, I hope it will help her learn its not evil. In fact, when NPR had a program on teen wiccans, she forced me to listen to it, convinced it would say something bad about D&D.

Lord Nat 08-19-04, 01:05 AM	Cool you can listen to a game... XD DnD sounds so geeky when you listen to a game... But then again none of my games sound like that (Or anything as I only play online...)
The Vagrant 08-19-04, 01:12 AM	Who knows what their usuall games is like. If my gaming session was going to be nationally aired you better bet that the game wouldn't go quite the usuall way. Maybe people that listen to that dronning all night as a lullybuy will be presuseded, subconsisly while they sleep, to buy D&D stuff. Or, even better, buy me D&D stuff.
coolraygun 08-19-04, 08:58 AM	HA one of my co workers sent me an email about the NPR thing this morning, and I was coming to post just this information! lol nice article except mr karr missed a couple of dice when he was listing the kinds of dice required to play the game... i know... pick pick pick...
deusxmachina 08-19-04, 01:16 PM	Pretty good. Of course the critical hit part of the session made it to the final edit where slicing of groins and things were then mentioned. That can't be good for the game's image with certain non-fans out there. The six-minute story makes you guys seem a bit serious with your characters, while the other link on the website with the full 10 minutes of play has more laughing in it and makes the game come across as more fun and that "it's just a game." Good job.

DrWorm 08-19-04, 05:07 PM	I loved the story and came over here to post it all for you, only to find the interviewees beat me to it. Good on ya! There was no new information for us geeks, but the story was a nice look in to the reality of an "older" gamer, like myself. Those of us 25 and older often struggle with the geekyness this hobby, and it is nice to hear others voicing the same feelings. The story also give a nice taste at what a role playing game is, without making it seem too odd.
The Vagrant 08-20-04, 01:01 AM	The part where the one player basicly says: "I some times wonder what it is I've done with my life..." Then goes on to make up for the semi-anti-D&D statement by saying "But it only lasts a short time and it goes away." Ho, ho whoo. That's hilariuse. It makes D&D look like a waste of time and a black pit for your life, but I still couldn't help laughing. Good report, I'd have left out a few parts (the above example for instance), but still mostly good.
MrGone 08-20-04, 01:05 AM	Thank you for all the wonderful comments. Rick at NPR is a smart guy and great to work with. He also used to play D&D years ago growing up so he definitely has an affection and sentimentality for the game. The guys that game with me are awesome and we really try to add a certain fun and realism to the game with an emphasis on RP as well as sound mechanics. The weekly game tonight had a little more juice due to the radio show today... we all were fired up playing an action packed session. :-) Thanks for the positive feedback guys! Damon
