Hasmead_Guy 09-12-06, 09:55 PM	I've been playing for years, but I'm starting to wonder why. Half the groups I get in, I cannot for the life of me figure out what the hells going on. Half the jokes are about D&D, and I don't get them! And there are so many rules, and it seems everybody under the sun fully understands them, but no matter how many times I read them, I just don't fully get it all. The ONLY time I can enjoy myself is when I'm emmersed and feel like I'm interacting with the world- otherwise, all the inside jokes about these convoluted rules, I'm so lost! Seriously, I don't consider myself to be a stupid person, so what gives? Is this game just not for me or what? Is it a personality conflict- I admit, I'm nothing like the average gamer, for better or worse. Feedback?

Stick with the group that allowed you get "emmersed" it is what we are all looking for. The rules will sort themselves out along the path. The rules are convoluted and anyone who dissagrees just has to look at these boards & see all the rules lawers at work.

Treebore 09-13-06, 05:10 AM	Try other game systems, see if they work better for you. Of course the tough part may be to find people playing other systems.

frasmage 09-13-06, 02:05 PM	I find it easier to learn DnD if you start off by playing some RPG video games that use the 3.5 system. the best example of that is neverwinter nights, the game that got me started. Read the manual, play the game. you will start to see what everything means. At the same time, play a bit of DnD and you might get a better feeling for the mechanics just an idea
metalmorphosis 09-13-06, 03:10 PM	Dude... don't worry about it and just go with the flow... I've been playing for.. sheesh... nearly 25 years now and I don't get most of the jokes.. well.. I do, but trust me, you're not missing anything. About the immersion and interacting with the world... I guess the amount of that depends on the group you're gaming with and your DM. Some groups can be awesome to game with and it's all about what's going on in game... others.. well... not so much so. It's tough to find a group of people who mesh well with your expectations (no matter what game you're playing). also... no one fully understands all the rules. There will always be different interpretations out there. Just look at these boards and you'll know it to be true.
