| thinkhead8704-03-06, 07:39 PM | I'm doing a portfolio project on Dungeons & Dragons for my English class and I need a famous (if possible) quote relating to it or perhaps just roleplaying in general. I Google'd it, but came up with only 2 lame quotes. Does anybody know any, by chance? I would greatly appreciate any ideas! chizz, thinkhead87 |

| thinkhead8704-03-06, 07:48 PM | Something by Gygax would be awesome and I'll wiki him ASAP. Thanks for the good idea, Xaxor! chizz, thinkhead87 |

Like Monte Cook, Sean Reynolds, etc. If you got some of the older books, the introductions had some excellent material in them. Particularly the Basic red book set. The introduction in that one was one of the best. |
| Icosahedron04-04-06, 02:11 AM | We were all drawn to the game because it allowed us to become these characters, vastly different in appearance and in action, but what kept us hooked was the search for the character that represented our higher self. Playing D&D was a training ground for our imagination and an opportunity to explore our own identities. Vin Diesel |
| Artifact04-04-06, 02:54 AM | Our biggest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our biggest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? You are a Child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't be insecure around you. We were born to make magnificent the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fears, our presence automatically liberates others. ~Nelson Mandela To Icosahedron I like this quote. I really admire Nelson Mandela. His story is truly remarkable and these words reinforce that. Out of curiosity, where did you find it? Any context you can lend would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |
| a_psh04-04-06, 04:04 AM | There's always Gary Gygax quotes (http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Gary_Gygax). Wikipedia's Dave Arneson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Arneson) and Gary Gygax (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Gygax) articles also have some interview links. |

It had lots of quotes from "famous" D&D'ers. Actual title: 30 Years of Adventure : A Celebration of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D Retrospective) ~Fireheart |
| Thelandrach04-04-06, 11:54 AM | "If you're using variant rules, you're not playing D&D." -- Gary Gygax |
| Bruunwald04-04-06, 12:05 PM | "It's an opportunity to assume a persona. Who really wants to be themselves when they're teenagers? And you get to be heroic and have adventures. And it's an incredibly fun game. They have arcane rules and complex societies and they're open-ended and limitless, kind of like life. For somebody who eventually became an actor, it was interesting to have done that for so many years, because acting is role-playing. You assume a character, and you have to stay in them over years, and you create histories, and you apply your powers. It's good improvisation with agreed rules before you go in." -Stephen Colbert http://www.avclub.com/content/node/44705 |
