D&d real combat [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-05-05, 10:46 AM Hi guys!!! Do you know where i can find the rules to play d&d the live version not the rpg :confused: I`m talking of making a sword with cotton and just hitting another guy with it, if you understand what i`m talking about :D

10-05-05, 11:22 AM There is no "live action" version of D&D. Do a web search for "LARP", Live Action RolePlaying.
You'll wanna find a group in your area, or make your own.
I suppose you could apply D&D rules to live action...but you'd have to do it yourself. Maybe someone out there has already done it.

Really, I'd suggest just taking fencing lessons, or making foam swords and wailing on each other. Good fun there. Then go play D&D.

And for those who know the reference, "Lightning Bolt! Lightning Bolt! Lightning Bolt!" :D

Or just use raw axe handles like I did. Hickory doesn't break easily and it really does help to remove the "I got you! No you didn't!" issue.

10-05-05, 03:52 PM If you want fantasy, google Amptguard. If you want non-fantasy, try the SCA. Either one of those will give you a way to whack your friends and have fun.

If those don't work for you, take some pvc pipe, some pipe insulation and a roll of duct tape. That ought to make a suitable weapon to whack your friends with. :P

10-05-05, 04:14 PM If you've got some ranks in Craft, you might try PVC pipe and upholstry foam (you can get it at craft stores like Michael's and JoAnn's). A lot of my friends use that sort of foam for boffer swords because pipe insulation tends to be a little tough.

LARP rules are generally much simplified compared to D&D rules simply because you're actually doing a lot of things you would otherwise roll for. A lot of conventions have LARP events.

I haven't heard much on Amptguard - although the little I have heard has been good.

If you want a more social LARP experience, rather than "demonstrative" or "boffer", then try White Wolf's Mind's Eye Theatre, easily found by poking around on their site - www.worldofdarkness.com.

That's all the LARP orgs I'm aware of off the top of my head. Have fun - LARP is really fun.

10-05-05, 10:01 PM My second oldest brother (30 now, I think) said he did that kind of thing a long time ago. For like 3 days, they just went around fighting dudes in monster suits and other "NPCs"" I guess you could call them. He said he made his chainmail outta a fireplace chain screen (or whatever you call it).

I have a feeling he was a nerd too- lets see, didnt participate in anything in highschool, went on a live RPG, was enthusiastic when I told him I started to play DnD..... hrmph- it makes you think. :D

10-06-05, 12:15 PM To the list of LARPS to check out, I'd add the International Fantasy Gaming Society, assuming they are still around. They used to be the biggest, but I haven't done anything with them in many years so I'm not sure what they are like now.
