Is there any tutorial or guide that takes you step by step through making a character cuz im trying to teach my bro how to make and a character and lets just say its not goin out too well.

What are you asking for? The mechanics of creating a character? That, I believe, would be a copyright violation.

If, however, you're looking for advice as to how to distribute stats, race/class combinations, feat selections, and the like, there are better boards for that, but my advice is, post your character CONCEPT, and we'll help you build it. Once you've got your stat spread (before actually distributing them), think about what you want to do in the game? Cut of monsters heads? Burn them with magic flame? Re-attach your comrades heads (well, not really :P )? Stab things in the back? Negotiate your way out of everything? Let us know. :)

The book Dungeons and Dragons for Dummies is most likely the best by the hand tutorial I have seen.
Yes, its a real book.
