03-22-06, 01:23 AM So how whould one go about having a D&D: Snowball Fight.... just curious cause I have no clue as to how much Damage a Snowball whould do, and whould it do Cold damage, and whoul it do Subdual or just Cold? also should I do it that way or should I make it more like people have a point score... or should We all just go outside and Have... lets say... um a REAL Snowball Fight?

03-22-06, 01:27 AM A snowball doesn't do any damage. If it did any damage, even subdual, our snowballs would knock someone cold. Unless it's filled with ice or something.

03-22-06, 09:23 AM I had to rule this one as the PCs were fighting fire elemtnals who were trying to, um, now please remeber that this was a one off, look it was only for fun, please dont laugh, ehem, fire elementals who were trying to steal christmas :embarrass . Anyway I ruled they did 1 point of cold damadge with no Str bonus and only to those creatures with cold vunerability (circumventing the noraml penalties therof). Range incrament of 10ft.

03-22-06, 06:16 PM I think you should be able to add your strength to thrown snowballs
And you should be able to do sneak attack damage
In fact it should be a touch attack

My next character is definately going to use snowballs

The ogre rogue throws 4 snowballs at you for 60 damage - christmas is doomed!

It would be a touch attack as well. To actually deal damage you would need to make a regular attack, it would probably have to have some ice chunks in it and it would most likely deal a point of subdual or a point of cold against creatures with a cold vulnerability.

03-22-06, 08:52 PM How a snowball fight would work.

Picking up a snowball takes a move action if on the ground, a free action if prepared balls are placed in easy access (ie: a cache of snowballs at waist level in your snowfort)
Snow picked up takes a swift action to form into an improvised snowball.

To hit somone you make a ranged touch attack with the snowball at a -4 penalty for improvised weapons (to avoid this penalty, you may spend a move action creating a well formed snowball making it more aerodynamic)

A snowball deals no damage, except on a critical hit where it deals 1d4 + 1/2 Strength modifier non-lethal damage. (snowballs threaten only on 20)

Basically enough to knock out an average NPC class character sometimes (it happens!) but nothing to the average PC.

03-22-06, 09:02 PM How about this: a snowball does 2/3 of a point of cold damage. Since you round down, it never does damage, unless you have cold vulnerabilty, in which case you take an extra 50%, or a total of 1 damage.

Packed tight enough, a snowball is about as dense as a tennis ball, so a -2 to hit (but a touch attack), 20 foot range increment, and you're good to go with a snowball fight.

03-23-06, 07:10 PM I guess if someone had "Craft: Snowball" we would be talking about damage... Add in some "Knowledge: Snow" and you're in for a treat.

Seriously, as a Norwegian I can tell you that if snowballs did damage, there wouldn't be any more Norwegians - we'd all be killed off by fourth grade....

If, on the other hand, you need snowballish items that do damage, I'd suggest going out a day when it's a good deal below freezing, with a bucket of water. Make the snowballs, dip them in the water and hope they don't freeze to the ground before you throw them... But for the name of all good, do not EVER throw these suckers on another living creature!!

Dude, I live in New England; we have plenty of winter devising of snowy death.

1: Dip the snowball in a puddle of slush and squeeze. Not quite and iceball, but it hurts like hell.

2: Put rocks inside.

3: Make the entire snowball out of slush and squeeze. It's the same thing as an iceball, but much easier to shape.

And don't lob it like a grenade, as is standard procedure. Throw it like a fastball, or whip it off sidearm.

If a punch does 1d3 subdual, an iceball certainly does as much. I have a scar on my face that attests to the deadliness of random thrown objects.

Yes, ok. Iceballs and "rockballs" I can see doing damage. We are talking about snowballs though, at least I was. But jesus... I just had snowball fights for fun when I was a kid, you guys play for keeps!
