Just wondering what everyone's take is on Dungeons and Dragons, Muds and roguelikes. Do you think these games are a good representation of D&D on the computer? Which MUD's or Roguelikes have you played? Which ones are the best?

My personal favorite roguelike is IVAN. Nethack and ADOM are also really great.

I'm looking for a good MUD online that appropriatly uses D&D rules. I'm playing Achaea now, but it's a farcry from the D&D rules.

I hate Achaea. Played for a while, I don't like the big gap between PCs and NPCs.

I used to play Valheru quite a lot. As far as I know, everything that works on PCs works on NPCs too. It isn't a lot like DnD, though.

I admit I've been searching for a DnD-like MUD too. I hope there is one. I was planning on writing one myself, but I have far too many unfinished stuff already (I never finish anything. Ever. Period! ^^), and I've never written a MUD before. I doubt it would be any good.

I hope someone finds a DnD MUD to post about :)

Multi-user Dungeon/Dimension.

I agree, Achea SUCKS bigtime. I just tried it. I was arbitrarily killed twice. I attacked a knight and was killed by about 30 archers who just showed up, and then I attacked a fairy and the Friggin' thing "Straightened it's wings and slashed my flesh as it passed"

WHAT THE HECK?

This was naturally after I spent a friggin' half-hour on the piece of crap "rebirth"

It's like playing with a bad DM.

What the heck is MUD?

A MUD (Multi User Dimension) is a text-based online role-playing. Usually they don't have any graphics, icons or buttons. They are considered by many to be much better than graphical MMORPG because the imagination takes the place of colors/sounds.
