ok, i am an ultima fan, i have been since playing Exodus on Nintendo, and i just recintly completed both parts of ultima 7 and thier respective expansions... (all on one CD too). so, im i was in the mood to create an Ultima Campaign setting(s) and adventures. anyone who is interested in this, please post here, not necisiarily ideas, just post that your interested. for those who are interested but dont know much about the series here are some things to keep in mind

The game uses mana and reagent based spellcasting, but that doesnt need to be kept.

All the games togeather span oh a good few meleniums...but people from earth never seem to grow old do to the massive time diffrence.

The physical world the main game takes place on (not including the other worlds you visit) changes...two or three times, so settings have to be made for each era.

Theres also the great Stygian Abyss, The Serpent Isle, and Pagan as other worlds that could be used to make settings on, since if you were to make an Ultima Campaign you would visit all of these.

So, thats it, anyone interested in helping to making a setting or adventure based on this great rpg series, please post.

Please, think of the children...and you know, the fun you had as a kid...hitting things with a demon infused sword while casting Armagedon while in a town of beggers >.> (and to think i was the good guy <.<)

I started a similar thread a while back, but it seems to have vanished or something.

The way I figure it, Ultima is largely about two things -- the setting and the Quest of the Avatar.

As far as adapting the setting goes, you basically have to decide whether you want to bend Ultima into D&D or bend D&D into Ultima. For example, do you want to use the Ultima classes or the D&D classes?

Ultima
Mage
Bard
Fighter
Druid
Paladin
Tinker
Ranger
Shepherd

Thing is, the classes weren't particularly equal. Geoffrey and Katrina (the Fighter and the Shepherd respectively) were kind of useless at the end of Ultima IV. Shepherds, especially, had nothing going for them in a game-balance sense. They were the equivalent of Commoners in D&D.

Another question would be races. If I remember correctly, Ultima III: Exodus was the last one that had any non-human races that you could play. I'm not sure I remember all of them, but I think there were Humans, Elves, Half-Eves, Dwarves and Bobbits. Oh, and Fuzzies. I always had this theory that the Fuzzies were the Emps that showed up in Ultima VII: The Black Gate.

Would you use D&D races, or Ultima races?

Then you've got magic to think about. After Ultima III, there was no longer any division between "arcane" and "divine" spellcasters.

So a lot of it would end up depending on what "era" you wanted to play in (or to put it another way -- which of the games you want to use for your setting since things tended to change a lot between games).

I found a cool timeline and other useful information here: http://www.notableultima.com/history/Chronology_Britannia.html

Check it out, let's put our heads together some more. :)

im blending ultima into d&d, so it would have a good number more options, im more interested in a fun setting then an accurate setting

Heh, I played Ultima I-IV on various PCs (along with Zork and all the other great textventures) throughout the early eighties. Seems to me that they were pretty much based on D&D to begin with. I never did figure out if the races made much difference in III or really how to procede after level 3 or so in IV (warrior types never improved much after +1 plate and +1 bow, and spellcasters ran out of herbs so quickly).

Yeah, I think the Bobbits died out because they were no longer able to reproduce. *snicker*
