| metamind02-18-06, 03:13 PM | What the hell is a d3 and how do you use it? as far as I know, it doesent even exist! What I always do is roll a d4, and reroll if it lands on a 4, but I do not think thats how you do it. |
| Solaris02-18-06, 03:16 PM | That's one way to do it. An easier way is to roll 1d6 and let 1-2 = 1, 3-4 = 2, 5-6 = 3 (divide by two, rounding up). |
| residieu02-18-06, 03:24 PM | I prefer splitting the d6 this way 1,4 =1 2,5= 2, 3,6 =3 (if you roll above 3 subtract 3. Division is hard :) ). But I've stopped doing it that way because the other way is more popular and I don't want any confusion. |
| savant_warlord1302-18-06, 03:35 PM | or, if you don't have a d6, you can use a d12 in similar fashion |
| Johnny Cache02-18-06, 03:40 PM | You can buy "real" d3s from places like Chessex. They're available either as d6s numbered 1-3 twice, or as odd-looking tringular spindle things. Of course, I bought some of each. :) |
| SKOLJACK02-18-06, 04:54 PM | Here: d3 (http://www.advancinghordes.com/product_info.php/products_id/1021) And you can play Rock, Paper, & Scissors with it, too!!! :rimshot: |
| tikru02-18-06, 05:10 PM | Here's my d3: it's a d6 with numbers 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3. Or if you prefer, 2x 1, 2x 2 and 2x 3 :P Before I found this, I used an ordinary d6. I read 4 as 1, 5 as 2 and 6 as 3. In this case I like to think d6 as having 1-2-3, 1-2-3. |
| green_yawgmoth02-18-06, 05:15 PM | or, if you don't have a d6, you can use a d12 in similar fashion If you're playing D&D and you don't have a d6, you're pretty SOL, given how many classes have a d6 HD, how many spells do Xd6 damage, and how many weapons do d6 damage. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/yawgmoth/kittyjig.gif |
| Ranger REG02-18-06, 08:42 PM | What the hell is a d3 and how do you use it? as far as I know, it doesent even exist! What I always do is roll a d4, and reroll if it lands on a 4, but I do not think thats how you do it. A d3 can be a six-sided die with the numbers 1, 2, and 3 printed twice. If you can't find such die, roll your regular casino die (d6), divide the result by 2, and round any fractions up. This has been another "well, duh" moment. |
| Solaris02-18-06, 08:49 PM | Do people only read the first post in a thread or something? |
| RogueScribner02-18-06, 08:52 PM | There are D3 you can buy, but I think it's easier to do as you suggested: roll a D4 and reroll on a 4. You can also do the D6 method as described in this thread. |
| Ranger REG02-19-06, 04:44 AM | Do people only read the first post in a thread or something? Nope. I also read the first post after my post. :P |
| residieu02-19-06, 04:48 AM | Nope. I also read the first post after my post. :P Right, because if they're not responding to me, they can't possibly be important. |
| Daergal_the_Black02-19-06, 05:24 AM | I prefer to use a real 3-sided die. I keep it in a special box, next to my one-sided die. |
