RobTzu 04-11-04, 06:02 PM	Last night after more than a few beers I stumbled into my room, spilt my die on the floor and went to bed. This morning, barefoot I add, I stepped on a d4. That hurt worse than any other pain I felt in my life save the time I got sand in the eye. Mind you I have been beat up, hit in the twins, had a military doctor work on a ingrow toe without anesthesia, had a military doctor work on a cavity, and worse of all been dumped after buying her bithday present. The question I pose has any one else suffered through this? If so help me help others feel the pain.
No Ones Fool 04-11-04, 06:44 PM	I hear ya. d4's pack a wallop, but the worst thing is these little demons have a hide modifier that should put most epic rogues to shame. Dice manufacturers of the realm I besech you to produce a safety d4! Make it soft or perhaps safety cone orange, anything to save our gamers' pale and tender feet. We already have safety caps on aspirin, how hard would it be to idiot-proof dice. Think of the children!

Willie the Duck 04-11-04, 06:52 PM	they already exist. they have cropped corners so the point is not so profound. Not that that keeps them from being painful to step on, simply keeping the pain in line with stepping on a d8 or so (also, if you are walking around with you dice in your pocket, they don't dig into your thigh/hip so much).
Seeker95 04-11-04, 07:13 PM	I have a set of cylindrical dice that have no sharp corners. They work great except for the d20, that tends to roll more than you want it to. It needs to be used in a confined rolling arena -- like a box or a table with a lip.
airhead 04-11-04, 07:15 PM	Willie, you sound like an old timer. The "old" d4's used to have sharp points. Talk about killer :b: :weep: :headexplo - they would make you say things in the early a.m. when you had to pry one out of your foot. I agree that they have a nasty knack of hiding under the table, then sneaking out onto the floor in the middle of the night to lie in waite for some unsuspecting bare foot to land on it.

Preyatnaya 04-11-04, 09:06 PM	I have never stepped on one myself however whenever someone asks me what a caltrop is, I tell them to look at the D4. As for safety D4's, that's like child-proofing your home.... Do that and people don't realize the dangers! Let them step in the D4 and they won't do it again! They will put it up! I feel your pain at having experienced this but I bet it won't happen again! :)
RobTzu 04-11-04, 09:12 PM	I wish you were right. Once I stepped on my Mace. I jumped in bed after forgetting I put my sword on it. That was stitches. Thing is I am quite agile, not clumsy in any sense of the word.

Stardrake 04-13-04, 11:42 PM	Well, I've been lucky myself, but one of my old friends needed stitches after putting his hand down on an old Zocchi/Gamescience d4! (He was falling and tried to catch himself--and the die caught him) This was back in the 70's, when d4's meant BUSINESS! Those old Zocchi High Impact (TM) razor-edged pointed 4-siders coulda made good arrowheads....
stephenKingMinion 04-14-04, 02:27 AM	I always clean up after mySELF, but my sister just threw the d20 in to my hardwood floor room after she was done with it, and I was hopping around for some reason and I landed smack on it....YaOWza! I mean, dull pain is sometimes worse than acute pain!

Slayer_5 04-14-04, 04:09 PM	Funny, ibe had the same feelings... in my group, if someone loses their d20 or whatever, no-one cares, "just grab another one from the bowl" but if a D4 is dropped, its like a air raid siren... Game stops, no-one moves, and everyone just looks around for the dice *if lost* and waits for it to be found... Think of this one though. My personal dice, are Clear. And the numbers of the D4 have worn off.
