As in, you come home from a long day, start walking to your room, and suddenly a pain like no other shoots up into your foot. As you look down, on eof you trusty d4's has been almost embedded into your foot...also, is there a different version of a d4 that does not have the pointy-ness?

jollythehappyminotaur 01-08-07, 07:47 PM	I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT???? i am a messy person and many times i have come home walked into my room and felt the wrath of the D4! its so unpleasent. i than challange my d4 to a duel :duel: :fight!: it lets out its battle cry and charges towards me. it wins most of the time.

I don't know who makes them but someone make dice that are effectively a multisided cylinder. I have 1d4 that is like this which is basically just a square peg with numbers on the side.

I have also heard it forces you to ride the short bus for awhile ......

Roll 1d8 1-2=1 3-4=2 5-6=3 7-8=4 The only way to have a tetrahedron is to have one of the verticies pointing straight up when itis at rest. OK, so it could go off to one side, but then it'd not be equal. You could have a prism with square ends so small that the die would never land on them, I guess. The d8 method will work the best, though. perhaps you should get these things saw once on Discovery Channel. Apparently in some countries they wear them to keep their feet warm. My spelling may be a tad off but: "Slippers"

Han Duo 01-08-07, 08:08 PM	If you scroll down to the bottom of this page (http://membres.lycos.fr/arjan/num04.htm) you will find alternatively shaped D4's. Especially the wedge shaped one (bottom right) is very nice and injury preventing.

The old Zocchi Gamescience d4s with the razor edges and needle points...and since they were made of the best plastic of the day (late '70s) they stayed SHARP!! A friend of mine once needed stitches after putting his hand down too hard on a Zocchi d4! They don't make 'em like that anymore--cursed CPSC!

Drohem 01-09-07, 12:31 AM	Back when we were younger and partying all the time, we threw a great party in which we all got severely hammered. We made everyone at the party take off their shoes and then we collected all the d4s from the hefty dice bag and threw them all over the apartment. It was great fun because we were so drunk that we'd forget they were on the floor and that you were without shoes. Randomly throughout the party you'd hear some yell something colorful. It was a great party, but the girls there didn't last long without shoes. Only us young bucks toughed it out all night. Ah, good times!

Solution 2: Get double-numbered d8s (i.e. a d8 numbered 1-4 twice). Solution 3: Get triple-numbered d12s (i.e. a d12 numbered 1-4 thrice). Solution 4: Use a pair of coins to generate binary numbers between 1 and 4. Solution 5: Round off the corners of your d4s with a dremmel. Be careful of balance. Solution 6: Don't leave dice on the floor.

Hell, even in high school when we'd play in my friend's basement (which was finished but did not have any tables), our dice were always kept in their crown royal pouches to avoid the caltrop effects. Serielle 01-09-07, 11:26 AM	I never had this problem, but then again I'm so protective of my dice that I always keep them in front of me and count them before leaving a session. Maybe eventually I'll step on someone else's d4, and then I'll feel your pain.
