Damage reduction Stack - plz help [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-09-06, 05:03 AM Hi guyz, I am trying to cross-breed two templates,
one is fey and the other is undead.
How do I stack DR/silver, and DR/cold-iron?
Do I make it an DR/silver & cold-iron (almost impossible to find)
If I keep it DR/silver or cold-iron it's more vulnerable than
sticking with only one. Do I just drop one of the two?
any ideas?

03-09-06, 05:51 AM Damage reduction overlaps. Each source of damage reduction must be overcome to fully harm a creature with it. If you have DR 10/silver and DR/5 silver, you effectively have DR 10/silver. If you have DR 10/magic and DR 10/silver, you effectively have DR 10/silver and magic.

03-09-06, 08:10 AM They overlap, and you use the best one for your given situation - more or less what Kerri told you. Here's another example, with different numbers.

If you had DR 10/Silver and 5/Cold Iron, you keep track of them separately. If you get hit by any non-silver weapon (including Cold Iron) you get to use the DR 10/Silver. If you get hit by a silver weapon, you get to use the DR 5/Cold Iron.

Does that Mean his character would essentially shrug off the first Ten damage (from each attack) from any weapon or attack that is not composed of Silver or Cold Iron?

Effectively, yes... I don't think you can make a single weapon out of two different materials.

03-09-06, 06:58 PM No, Sure Striking only gets through alignment DR.

The new Shadow Striking (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20060303a&page=7) ability from Tome of Magic should be able to get through.
