I am playing a dark character and as such the light condition is important.

Now reading the darkness spell I see that it makes it shadowy illumination which I can then use to hide in.

The only thing that I am not sure about is what is Shadowy Illumination? I looked it up on SRD and it doesnt really map out what it is and how it interacts with other characters.

Can someone tell me where I can read it in the Books? Or if someone is in a very kind mood and would like to explain what Shadowy Illumination is and how it effects players I would be greatly appreciative.

It's in the Adventuring chapter, or here: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/exploration.htm#visionAndLight

Basically just means 20% Concealment and you can Hide. The spell differs from "natural" darkness in that it doesn't care if you have Darkvision or Low-light vision, and it is hard to make it any brighter (gotta get rid of it with another spell).

EDIT: Keep in mind that while you can Hide in the Darkness spell, unless you have particular magics which allow you to see clearly within it, you can't Sneak Attack due to the Concealment.

There is a difference between Magical Darkness, Darkness, Shadowy Illumination and Light filled areas. It can be confusing if you do not pay attention to what is where and the vision of the people in the area. As an example, a sunrod provides light in 30 ft radius and shadowy illumination out to 60 ft. So someone with low light vision could see clearly out to 60 ft, because they have double the vision of a normal human. Someone with Darkvision could see out to 120 ft although the last 60 ft would be entirely black and white.
