Darkvision question [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-26-04, 12:02 PM Take any race that already has darkvision. Lets just say a minataur. Now to beef it up you add a template to it, like half-dragon.

Base minataur has darkvision up to 60ft.

The h. dragon template gives the base creature darkvision up to 60 ft.

My question, does the new creature, half-minataur / half-dragon, have darkvision up to 60 ft? or 120 ft?

I don't have my books or I would look it up.

Sorry for not looking this up on SRD. I don't know how to get to it. :blush:

10-26-04, 12:31 PM Rian is correct - it remains 60'. I believe there are one or two instances where it specifically mentions that if the base creature has darkvision already, the range is extended. But I can't recall any specific example, so I could be misremembering.

If you already have the ability fgranted by any template, you don't get anything better.
And just as with Zherog, I cannot think of the few instances in which this is not the case.
