| Goldrak03-24-06, 07:34 PM | Hi! From the SDR: Darkvision is the extraordinary ability to see with no light source at all... So my question is this: If a character with darkvision, is walking in an open area (street, plain, forest, etc.) at night, with some ligthsources present (moonlight, starlight, etc.) how would he see? Would darkvison function on these conditions, or would he see has a character with no darkvision (nor LLV)?? Thanks |

I remember being slightly miffed a few sessions back when my DM wouldn't let my dwarf read his tomes in the dark. It seemed reasonable to me, considering the image of darkvision in the DMG gives the impression that it's like inverted-grayscale. Black text on white paper should be easily discernible, no? |

As to inverted grayscale or normal grey scale, its pretty much a moot point. Either way, it would be totally natural for your character. Though I suppose it would be trippy for anyone who gained Darkvision via a magic item/spell/class ability for the first time... |
