| Yak of Darkness12-11-05, 03:16 PM | Subtitle: D&D in the most bizarre places So my girlfriend and I are seeing Narnia last night, and a trailer for Pirates of the Carribean 2: Electric Boogaloo comes on. I'm actually interested in this one, as I found the first to be (extremely) surprisingly quite good. So I watch, up to the point where the Big Bad Davey Jones comes a-walking down the stairs . . . his mouth surrounded by long, drifting tentacles. It takes all of our willpower not to shout, "MINDFLAYER!" in the theatre. Anyone else find bizarre pseudo-D&D images/references in unlikely pop culture places? |
| WayneTheGame12-11-05, 03:23 PM | Heh.. I caught that too and mentioned it to my girlfriend when we were in the theater watching Narnia. Got hit. But I also started rambling about what would be the D&D stats of people in Narnia... |
| Yak of Darkness12-11-05, 03:25 PM | But I also started rambling about what would be the D&D stats of people in Narnia...We were both doing that after the movie. No, we're not geeks . . . :shifty: |
| allenchan12-11-05, 03:28 PM | I thought so, too. However, upon further examination he has far too many tentacles, though perhaps inspired by the illithid, they had to modify him due to copyright reasons. http://www.canmag.com/images/front/pirates/davey.jpg |
| Seeker9512-11-05, 03:36 PM | He's not an illithid. He's an undead half-shambling mound / half crabman swashbuckler 5. |
| Xaxor12-11-05, 04:28 PM | You're all wrong. It's obviously an avatar of Great Cthulhu, who sleeps beneath the waves in the corpse-city of R'lyeh, like so many ships. |
| DMkelzor12-11-05, 05:01 PM | Speaking of Narnia stats.... after that movie I had a sudden urge to make a Centaur Ranger with the two-weapon fighting style. |
