I'm glad that you like it! :) I just feel like making David Blaine as a D&D characther. I didn't bother adding weapons nor armor to David since he not that type of characther in real life, though I find him as netural.

Why does everyone always build real life people as 20th level characters?
David Blaine is a 3rd to 5th level expert. If he is a wizard at all, he is 4th level at best, since he hasn't thrown a single fireball or flown.

I agree. A 5th level expert with 8 ranks in Sleight of Hand and Bluff is pretty fair for both him and Chris Angel.

Well first of all, he's an llusionist. Second, no expert wouldn't be that powerful in a very low level.

05-23-06, 06:57 PM
I think his Charisma is too low. Why do you know who David Blaine is? Because he's a likable guy and he had too do some heavy duty convincing to get on TV.
Bartmanhomer

05-23-06, 07:03 PM
Well that the way how I build David. Even if he get his attention to do some dangerous stunts. And your probably right if he's an expert. I should raise his Charisma a little more.

How is he "powerful"? What tricks has he done? He stood it a block of ice for a few days. He sat in a plexiglass box in London for like a month. He submerged himself in plexiglas sphere of water for a week. He buried himself in a plexiglass box in a side walk for a week. Those are all feats of endurance and hardship...but all involve "hanging out" in a small space for an uncomfortable amount of time. Tada! (?)

What would be really amazing would be if he tried doing an actual magic trick some day.

many people have a scewed up veiw of the power levels people obtain, if any human ever was level 20 then they would be far mored famus then they already are. Majoruty of talented people are level 3-5 at best and many are not character classes.

His levitating trick was poor, as was his "63" trick. The parameters he gives make people choose 63 over 50% of the time. If he fails at a trick, they just edit it out.

5 levels of Expert? I dunno, I'd give him about 3, tops, and just have him take Skill Focus. Because skill checks don't offer experience(which is the entirety of his profession, anyhow), by RAW, he really wouldn't have gained that much experience unless he's done some adventuring in his early days.

And, even if he had any levels of Illusionist, most of his "tricks" are, like, Minor Image. You can probably use Minor image to make it look like you're eating your own head. 5th level Illusionist, tops.

Totally - he started off on a good note, but now (especially over here in the UK), people seem to think he's kind of silly.

I would be impressed if he pulled an "Andy DuFrane" from the Shawshank Redemption.

If you think of those scenarios as challenges to be overcome, then he would get xp for overcoming those challenges.

I think 8 lvs of expert would be about right. I don't see the point of giving him lvs in wizard since all his tricks are just sleight of hand, not illusionary magics in the dnd sense.

Yeah, c'mon - 20th level? A 23 Intelligence? Hardly.

If anyone in the RW is 20th level, it could only be one man - Stephen Colbert. Bringing the Truth to all with a capital "C", Stephen is willing to put his razor-sharp wit to bear against any opponent, although none are worthy to truly challenge him - save himself. Here's a stab at the stats for Stephen:

Stephen Colbert
Male Human Bard 9/Ranger 1/Truthteller 10
Medium Sized Humanoid
Hit Dice: 19d6 + 1d8 + 20 + 3 (104 hit points)
Initiative: +4 (Improved Initiative)
Speed: 30 ft.
Armor Class: 15 (+5 Suit of Truth)
Attacks: Witty Repartee + 16/+11/+6/+1
Damage: 1d8 + 5 (Sonic)
Special Attacks/Qualities: Bardic Music, Bardic Knowledge, Countersong, Fascinate, Inspire Courage +2, Inspire Competence, Suggestion, Inspire Greatness, Favored Enemy (Bears), Wild Empathy, Truthiness, Tip of the Hat, Wag of the Finger, The Word, All You Need to Know, On Notice, Dead to Me
Saves: Fort +8, Ref +15, Will +13
Abilities: Str 10, Dex 10, Con 12, Int 18, Wis 18, Cha 20
Skills: Bluff +27, Concentration +11, Craft (Tek Jansen) +14, Diplomacy +27, Gather Information +25, Knowledge (Politics) +27, Knowledge (History) +27, Knowledge (Congressional Districts) +27, Knowledge (Bears) +27, Listen +14, Perform (Oratory) +25, Perform (Newscasting) + 25, Profession (the Truth) +27, Sense Motive +16, Spot +10
Feats: Improved Initiative, Track, Leadership, Weapon Focus (Repartee), Toughness, Negotiator, Persuasive, Skill Focus (Knowledge), Skill Focus (Profession)
Challenge Rating: 20
Alignment: Truthy

Special Abilities: All Bardic Music abilities function from Stephen talking, as his voice is music to the Heroes' ears.

Truthteller Abilities:

Truthiness: The truthiness ability allows Stephen to maintain his composure when others would scoff at his beliefs or exalted opinions. This provides a +2 bonus to Concentration checks when heckled by unbelievers.

Tip of the Hat: When using Tip of the Hat, Stephen praises a particular activity or action, giving the target a +2 morale bonus to all actions for the next hour.

Wag of the Finger: Used against his enemies, Stephen lets his moderate displeasure known. This ability may be used against a single target, an entire affiliation, or a species (bears only). Any affected targets suffer a -2 penalty to all actions until Stephen rescinds his finger wagging.

The Word: When Stephen unleashes the mighty power of the Word, all enemies within earshot suffer the affects of the Wag of the Finger ability, and are stunned for 1d10 rounds. There is no saving throw allowed for this ability.

All You Need to Know: Stephen has a knack for cutting through extraneous baggage and condensing any activity to its barest components. This ability can be used on any Hero, and provides only one of the following benefits at a time: +2 bonus to next attack, +2 to any Save, +2 to AC, or +4 to the target's next Skill roll.

On Notice: A more powerful and cutting version of Wag of the Finger, when Stephen puts a target On Notice, they suffer from a negative level, the effects of Wag of the Finger, and they suffer an additional -4 penalty to strike Stephen or any of his allies (the Heroes).

Dead to Me: A Truthteller's most potent weapon, the Dead to Me ability provides Stephen with the ability to render a target nonexistant, so long as he's concerned. Once activated, this ability provides Stephen with the ability to ignore all damage or effects from a target indefinitely. There is no limit to the number of targets Stephen can affect with this ability, and the duration in permanent, although no more than one target can be stricken Dead to Me in one round. Using the Dead to Me special ability counts as a full-round action. There is no saving throw.

For those that read that...I hope you get all the jokes. :-)

Houdini wouldnt be a wizard and would be insulted at the prospect.

He would be a high level rogue with ranks in escape artist, open lock and sleight of hand, skill focus in escape artist, would have a high intelligence, dexterity, and constitution. He would have the endurance feat, as he could hold his breath forever, and probably have a couple levels in exemplar (Focusing on sleight of hand, open lock, and escape artist). He also would have the Investigator feat and levels in Master Inquisitive since later in his life he was deeply involved in exposing false mediums (People who claimed to commune with the dead and falsely caused desks to shake or gave false messages a la John Edwards)

He never claimed to use magic. In fact he specifically said many times he never used magic.

Thanks for the advice, striderII. And just to be brief he's seems more like an epic characther. Maybe I should replace the wizard and changed it the expert class (Level 20 expert/Level 1 sorceror) Since all of you judge that he's really an expert. And I'll add the level 1 sorceror just for good measure since he's more likely in the arcane class.

First off, the so-called "Behind the Magic" specials are put on by a semi-successful (weekend vegas shows at best, maybe?) "mystery magician", if memory serves. This character offers only "possibe" explanations" as to how certain tricks and stunts are done, so don't tell me that he "debunked" any endurance stunt that David Blaine did.

There are all kinds of examples of human beings that exceed seemingly insurmoutable physical limits as defined by modern science. Martial Artists (the gurus, the grandmasters, etc.), pearl divers, anyone who has climbed a major mountain peak, lance armstrong, etc. i am a firm beleiver that the human body is capable of feat that cannot be explained by known science. I am not saying that Blaine is one of these, but don't say it's impossible just because no one has ever done it before.

Second, as far as the magic tricks are concerned, you and I both know that there's no physical way in the world that someone can take your watch and transport it into the streetside display case of a jewelry shop that's closed at 1030 at night (i saw him do this trick on tv). Obviously, this is a trick. A gimmick. An Illusion , as it were. Hence the illusionist build at the beginning of the thread.

Lastly, as for the flamers/gay response. In this board, post that seems to deliberately draw other members into arguments simply for argument's sake are called "flames". Those who post them are "flamers". Let's not make it into something that it's not.

peace.

There is no mysticism in my life...I've always found that whenever someone points out to me an example of someone (martial artist, pearl diver, lance armstrong, etc) who can perform feats inexplicable by modern science that either (i) the feat cannot be recreated under controlled conditions or (ii) the person misunderstands the relevant science in some important way.

a. i'm not talking about mysticisim. and by your statement you imply that there is none in your life, but there may be in other's lives. If, in fact, there is such a thing as mysticism, i would rather be "with" than "without", but, whatever.

b. about the "whenever someone points out...." statement, maybe you should actually get out and see this stuff for yourself. the power of the human spirit is truly inspiring. just because it's not done in a lab doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

personally, i think that the truly ignorant perspective (not that this is any of your perspectives) is the one that thinks that they have the whole human condition figured out.

It's an illusion, yes. Illusion magic, no. Blane's tricks are best represented by max ranks in Sleight of Hand, with the appropriate Skill Focus feat, and a maybe a second feat that gives a bonus to SoH. This would provide him with a reasonable chance to fool the average person a good percent of the time. This is easily attainable at 3rd level Commoner, at least, and can be done at first.

There's a team of a couple dozen people from MIT that are also banned from basically every casino in the world. They figured out a formula that allowed them to consistently win or break even at blackjack and applied it. Casinos figured this out. Casinos don't let them in.

Magic in this setting is limited to shaolin monks...

What do they have to do with magic?

What's the BAB progression for Professional Idiot? This needs to be statted out, I think.

There is none. Most professional idiots are involved in politics and thus mysterisouly avoid active combat duty, as do their offspring. ;)

I said it in my second post, but I'll say it more clearly now. Disagreeing with you does not a flame make. This is a public forum meant for open discussion. This isn't "Hey, I'll say something and everyone will agree with me!” If free thought is too much for you to handle, it would be best to move along.

Accusations are not to be made lightly.

What do they have to do with magic?
The whole bending spears with your throat thing, and the shattering the bottom brick first thing, and all sorts of other weird things they do that don't quite fall into the realm of 'possible' for normal people.

Now ask me about Disney World.

a. i'm not talking about mysticisim. and by your statement you imply that there is none in your life, but there may be in other's lives.

No one can truly "violate the laws of physics." Sometimes people can use those laws to produce results that are counter-intuitive, but the supernatural does not exist in the real world. That's not to say that I have the "whole human condition figured out", but I know that those things I cannot explain at first glance do not require non-rational, unscientific, supernatural cause. I think those sorts of expanations are, quite literally, the refuge of the truly ignorant--i.e. those lacking in education or knowledge.
