DDM's, Classic Campaigns, and what would your want list be? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Hi all,

I would've posted this in the DDM forum, but since this is more related to the roleplaying aspect than the DDM game aspect, I thought I would post it here.

If it gets moved then... whatever.

Another thread on here asked about the best purchased modules. This got me ta' thinkin' about some of the modules I have purchased over the years. Then I got ta' thinking about the cool DDMs that are out now and thought, "I wish I had those when I bought the OLD modules 20 yrs ago."

So I have converted some of my old modules and have bought the mini's needed to accurately portray the monsters in them. Garoovy.

I think it would be great if WoTC could come out with "module specific" booster packs (although I understand why they don't). But... If WoTC came out with a "Module specific" booster pack of DDMs, what would your want list be? Are there any specific villains you would like to see in mini form?

Here are some of mine.

1. Any Dragonlance. A Raistlin mini would be great. (So would Cyan Bloodbane)

2. White Plume Mountain, just because it's one of my favorite modules and a Gynoshpinx would be great. So would a giant Crab.

3. Any of the White Palm modules. Very cool "Ancient Egypt" themed minis would be great.

4. Lost Tombs of Tsojcanth (did I spell that right???)

5. Tomb of the Lizardking (I think that's what that was called)

BTW - if you can't tell, I LOVE the inclusion of minis in D&D. If you don't, please don't use this as a forum to argue or rant about DDMs and D&D.
Cheers!

I'd love if they released "set minitures". Ie say your having a campaign that deals a lot with orcs. You can buy an Orc miniture set. It has Orc Warriors, Orc Druids, Orc Champion, and Cleric of Grummish.

Or if you were doing an Undead campaign you can get the undead set. Skeltons, Gnoll Skeltons, Vampire guy, and zombies.

THAT would be awesome.

The fact that D&D minis are random is probably the biggest thing that stops me from buying more.

I find that inexpensive, durable minis are much easier to carry around than my usual pewter and lead ones, even if the quality is poor in comparison, but I have no use for 2/3rds of the models in a given booster.

I'd settle for anything out of D&D, provided it was:

Hard plastic or metal

Not prepainted

Not random

Cheers :)

Yeah. I get frustrated with the half-orc-illithid-Sahuagin-fiendish-chiuahua with the vampire temlplate. What ever happened to good ol' standard monsters?

Another support of the Non-Random Proposal.

I personally would love an Icewind Dale Trilogy pack.

Yea, I support this to, but I don't ever see it happening. They're out to sell minis, not sell you the minis you really really want. That's why you buy more.

It'd be akin to calling up Fleer or Topps and saying "Yea, I was wondering if you could put together a little package for me? Hm....I need the Mickey Mantle, Ken Griffey Jr, Nolan Ryan and Babe Ruth rookie cards. Mint."
See where I'm going with this? Sure, my example's a little extreme, but you get the point.

If we could get what we desire by just calling up, then no one would buy packs. I keep buying because I hope for a Drizzt mini, or another Red Wizard.

Take your real-life, well-grounded perspective and pee on somebody else cheerios

[Although I probably don't have to tag this.... I will - Sarcasm]

Hey man, I make it a point to pee in any breakfast cereal I damn well can.

Sorry, I just had to play devil's advocate to this thread.

The randomization of mini's is a direct analogy to Magic the Gathering: it's an evil money making plot, capitalizing on peoples obssesive nature (mine included).

There is a certain thrill associated with the randomness of the boosters though. I have to admit, that when I bought a case of Deathknell (in the hopes of pulling a Beholder) I was silly with anticipation...

and then of course depressed. - no Beholder-

However, I did get some excellent minis, 2 Blue Drgns, Mummy Lord, Dire Bear, Thaskor, Etc... not a bad pull and I sold of bunch of them to a local shop where I picked up King Snurre, a Huge Red dragon, and a handful of Drow minis.

BUT! Once in a while, it would be nice to buy a pack with a greater sense of continuity. I mean, bring out a set of Undead, but still have them be random figures. That'd be ok for me.

A booster of Elves, Orcs, Undead, Giants, Dragons, Outsiders... whatever, and then just randomize the figures within these packs.
