Omya 05-13-06, 10:01 PM	My familiar died, I'm playing an epic level magic user in an epic level party of six: so bringing the little weasel back is not really a problem. BUT, could I reincarnate him instead? Instead of ressurecting him back into a weasel could I have him back as something else? He was only a young weasel, I could do with something older and slightly more capable, perhaps a cat or even a monkey. Is there any way I could bring him back as something specific/my choice?

Anyways as I know it the spell Reincarnation is complete randomness though you may ask your DM to make a seperate table for familiars and whatnot. Personally I'd stick with the Mustilidae. I rather like having that +2 to Reflex saves. You might make an Epic spell that could bring the lil guy/gal back to life as whatever you want, but that means using up Gold and XP resources to research said EPIC spell. Well that's all I got on the matter so far. Sorry again to hear about your familiar's demise :weep:.
Omya 05-13-06, 10:19 PM	It's been quite a few games since the sad event happened (three months in-game), my stinky little friend died while we were captured by the BBEG enemy, along with two other party members familiars! (a pair of tressym/winged cats) Ever since we escaped, me and the other two players (who had their familiars killed also) have wanted revenge, one wizard took the additional familiar feat and summoned a magpie to serve as his new familiar while another 'cant get over the loss just yet'. I want my familiar back better than before and intend to give my beloved the deathstroke against the BBEG (when we can track the fiend down that is). I'm thinking of bringing him back as a cat or something like that then buying or crafting him an item to allow him to become large and other special abilties, would like to have some help here. :)

It's kind of nice seeing someone that gets that attached to their familiar and sees them as more than just a skill or save bump. You're all right. Okay, so how do we fix that weasel of yours? Personally, I'd let you bring them back as any of the standard familiar critters without hesitation; an epic wizard should that can gate in extremely powerful demons shouldn't have to worry about the mechanics of embodying his or her beloved weasel in a cat's form. Beyond that, though, my intial reaction is to treat the process like the creation of a magic item... Single use of reincarnate (assuming you've got a druid buddy around) + bull's strength (always active) + resist elements +... you get the idea. By investing your own essence into the resurrection of the familiar (in the form of EP), you not only are true to the spirit of the master / familiar relationship but can logically explain why the returned familiar is significantly more stout.
