So in our D&D group we have...this player. This player, we'll call him Nad, has set a all time record for Most Character Deaths in a single campaign. So far he has lost five characters, but has died nine times (several characters were resurrected, only to be killed again). Only of few of these deaths can actually be attributed by the DM's actions. Every other death can be credited to other players in our group, or his own incompetence.

Here, now, I will list, for all to marvel at, every instance of Nad's deaths. Prepare yourselves.

Sasha the Maker (human Artificer): Eaten by Sharks while escaping imprisonment by Sa'hala (my character, an ill tempered Efreeti).

Zuli-Kla (Orc Drunken Master): Jumped, through fire, onto a flaming boat. Died by jumping back through that same fire to get off the boat. In real time he died only twenty minutes after creating the character, and joining the game.

Hozai the Seer (Human Cleric): Swalled whole by a Purple Worm...he never saw it coming.

Hozai the Seer: Resurrected by fellow teammates. To escape giant anemones, he used improper components while casting Plane Shift. Was accidently shifted to the Plane of Positive Energy. He was filled with such brilliant positive energy, he exploded into a blast of glorious light that would dwarf the brilliance of beholding the birth of a star.

Sasha the Maker (again): At last he is capture by the hateful efreeti, Sa'hala. He ticked off so many other players, that once he was subdued he was encased in stone, had his hand cut off, and his tounge cut out. In what was supposed to be an act of mercy, another player, Darvon (a harpy) slit his throat while he was imprisoned.

Viajado the Traveler (Halfling Extreme Explorer): After approaching the huge, sacred Chub Toad, which a village of Gripplis viewed as their great sovereign, he was eaten with one huge gulp. He didn't pay attention to the fact that all NPC around the Chub toad made it a point to keep their distance from their leader.

Grimwa the Necromancer (Human Wizard, Necromancy school): He was stricken down, in a furious rage, by Sa'hala. He attempted to cast the spell Ghoul Gauntlet on Sa'hala. His most prized follower ( I had the leadership feat) jumped in the way to protect Sa'hala. In a jull round attack, Sa'hala buried his flaming falchion into Grimwa, chopping his chest open.

Grimwa the Necromancer (again): He was brought back to life, so to speak, as an undead creature by those who like him. Sa'hala still vowed Grimwa would die by his hand. Sa'hala allowed Grimwa to make an assassination attempt on his Waker's life. This attempted left Grimwa completely vulnerable to attack, and Sa'hala killed him...again.

Grimwa the Necromancer (I know, I know...again): Once again, someone took a shine to him, and had Grimwa resurrected the day after his assassination attempt. Sa'hala's Waker, whom Grimwa tied to kill, order him to be excuted for mutiny. Grimwa tried to escape his fate. Then my other character, an Aasimar Druid nemed Chronus (ok so Sa'hala even died once. he was resurrected after i already stared palyin a new character), and another player, Alya (a psinoic) used their powers to kill Grimwa. He was first trampled by the spell Dinosaur Stampede, and was ultimately laid to rest by Alya's Ray of Disintigration.

So there it is. The many deaths of Dan....er...I mean Nad.

Zuli-Kla (Orc Drunken Master): Jumped, through fire, onto a flaming boat. Died by jumping back through that same fire to get off the boat. In real time he died only twenty minutes after creating the character, and joining the game.
That is not stupid. That is awesome.

Death by awesome.

LOL , sounds just like a friend of mine. He byb the way died 16 times in a 3 month campaign. By the end of it, it was a running joke. He ha some of the most horrible rolls ever. The most memorable was Slonathra, a human barbarian. We however called him Slonan from his 5 int. I a 3rd lvl mage named artrio cast grease, but at the same time and arrow hit me. The dm has a house rule that if you tie a concentration check the spell is aimed in another direction. Thus my grease flew in the charging barbarians path. He rolled a 1 on 3 checks, a balance, a reflex, and a dexterity check. Thus he slipped, and the DM rolled max on the dmg rolls, snapping poor Slonan's neck :) I have more post again and ask and i will tell some more/

What level?

Half of those deaths seem to be "preventable" by a decent DM.

Being swallowed whole does not mean instant death. Accidently Plane shifting onto the plane of Positive Energy?
Sharks? Oh come on! What an unworthy death! No DM should kill a character above level 1 or 2 with ordinary sharks (and actually he should not be able to after level 5 or so).
A ring of fire killing an Orc drunken master?

btw: Are you DM or fellow player?

you want a funny death:

not 10 minutes after character creation, our Gnome bard (my friend's character) accompanied us into a cavern. Our cleric stupidly picked up what he thought was a mushroom and took a whiff to see if it was edible.

Mycanoids are not edible. Spores released, nearly poisoning everyone in the group. Other mycanoids swarmed us, and the first to land a hit after the battle begun dealt a critical that killed our bard.

Never sniff mycanoids.

At one point in our current campaign, we had to leave one of our rangers behind, dying. He was trapped in something that would revive him to full health by the Druid (a governor) who was "playing" with us.

We're in the middle of a battle when the thing he is in pops out of the water elemental trapping him and he comes out at full health. He, not being involved in the battle, was in the other room playing a computer game. We yelled to him asking what he did, since he was just revived. He said he stood up. The DM said, "Good, you provoke attacks of oppurtunity from the water elemental." He happens to roll well enough to kill him two seconds after he was revived.

And, of course, later on we meet that druid in an inn, and he hits her for 181 damage with arrows, killing her right away. I won't go into the rest of the story with what the commoners did.

And you play an Efreeti with class levels? I do not know what their LA is, but they have 10 HD and are CR 8. So you should be close to ECL 20. Assuming your party members are of equal level, those deaths are near impossible.

The whole story seems just like an inner-party war with a strange set of rules...

Seems to me that most of these deaths are because of conflict within the party. Most especially between the OP and "Nad". This is a prime example of what I most discourage in D&D.

one of my players tried to push 15 armed men, domino style, into a wall of rotating gears.Unsurprisingly they turned round and killed him.

alright, since there's alot of missing information, as another player of this campaign, let me fill you in.

first off, i am Alya, the half-dragon psion telepath that disintegrated the final incarnation of grim to be sure he never plauged us again (which, by the way, was just in time, as later that day we fought a draco-litch that grim's player told us that had he still been playing grim, he would have turned on us and joined the litch...)

anyhow, i digress.

regarding our ECL's, no, were mostly 13 and 14'th level, Nad of course, being 12 or something for having died so many times (he was the highest level before this all started happening). the efreeti does not have any class levels and is thus, not near 20th ECL.

onto the deaths.

Swallowed whole
you're prefectly correct, being swallowed whole does not nessessarily mean an instant death, but given the circumstances, no one was about to kill the creature to save him. as you may have read, this chub-toad was the diety of the society of griplee we were with and we were not about to kill it infront of said griplee and start a war, we were out numbered and in their tree; a giant mangrove tree, 2000 feet above the ground with our boat stuck up there too. we needed the griplee's help in getting it down, we were there to make peace. and finally, this extreme explorer was more of an extreme wuss, always running away at the slightest of situations. his character had just joined us a day before, and no one had any attachment to him.

Accidental plane shift
the planeshift itself wasnt accidental. hozai indeed was trying to get away, however, when we went over the spell, it states that you have a metal bar attuned to each plane. however, hozai only had one such bar, and since he never specifically got it attuned before hand (it wasnt designed for such a purpose, it was actually his divine focus that the DM graciously allowed him to use for this spell), he randomly rolled for what plane it would end up being attuned for. thus, sending him to a brilliant death in the positive energy plane.

Sharks!
in a normal situation, a normal shark or two wouldnt pose much of a threat to someone above level 5 or so (i believe we were 10ish at the time), however, there is much to konw about the situation. Sasha, due to many, many... many misduings to the crew, the fellow heros and the entire world, was being held in the hold of the ship as a prisoner. our cruel efreeti made sure that he got little to zero sleep, burning him with his fiery hands minutes after he would fall asleep, keeping him shivering in a partly flooded hold, and oh, did i mention? both of his legs and ankles were broken and bleeding. at one point, when our efreeti friend had to go take care of other business, sasha, with his two broken and bleeding legs and ankles managed to use BOOTS OF LEVETATION to float to the top of the hold, drag himself along the ceeling to the open hatch and then continue to drag himself across the deck to the edge of the ship where he jumped overbord. not only was he extremely weak and fatigued due to the condition that sa'hala kept him in, but he also took a considerable ammount of damage trying to escape - using his broken body. finally, when he jumped in the water, his bleeding limbs attracted not only one or two sharks, but an entire school. having been a prisoner (and a caster class), he has no spells preparied and no gear, weapons or otherwise to defend himself. it was a quick death, and had the rest of the crew been awake to witness it, they wouldnt have shead a tear for him; for the crimes he had already comitted, this was an easy way out.

Burning boat
while i dont remember the exact details about the drunken master on the boat, he jumped though, onto, and back though fire, failing his reflex saves and taking a decent ammount of damage each time. mind you, this was a fight between two different crews, one boat of which was burning, so after he was weakened, if memmory serves, a fell blow from one of the enemies laid him to rest.

trust me when i say that our DM was more than fair on all of these accounts. while he challenges us on our encounters as a group against NPC's, when it comes to role play and player versus player ineteractions, he is more than fair and usually too gracious. this, by the way, is the same DM, same campaign that allowed the same Sasha to break free from a bag of holding by burning all his action points to use his artificer ability to dissassemble a magic device in a single round. Our DM, feeling pitty for the situation he was in, gave him the bennifit of the doubt and allowed him to do something he was otherwise unable to do to prolong his life.

Nope, my Efreeti has no class lvls. I'm progressing him with the Monster Class levels from the Savage Species guide. So his ECL is 13

Add the fact that Dick Awesome shot Grimwa before he was stampeded and disintegrated.

Afterall, Dick did say, "...and then I shot him!"

In addition to the Shark thing, our DM did tell him the waters were shark infested. Everyone made it very clear to him about his condition. So he knew he was broken and bleeding. Death by sharks.....his F up cause he must not have been paying attention.

Speaking of not paying attention let me throw in another 'lil something about Grimwa's first death at Sa'hala's hands. I already mention my Efreeti was ill tempered. He also hates having to repeat himself (except when it comes to mention his own name), and gets infuriated when orders are not followed (he's also the captain of the great ship, the Olidammara, but that's a whole 'nother story).

Our crew was about to try and deal with a red dragon. Out of game it took us almost two hours to think of what to tell him in order to gain his allegiance. In game, all characters where in the same room making their plot, including Grimwa. Unfortunately out of game Nad had been reading a comic book the entire time we were plotting.

So we get to the red dragon's cave. In game, Grimwa asks "Now what are we doing here?" Needless to say this gets under Sa'hala's skin. He gets angry with Grimwa, and Grimwa back talks him. Mind you Grimwa is part of the crew of the Olidammara, and is working the last nerves of its captain. In the past Grimwa had a problem, in a past encounter, spilling the beans to an NPC we were trying to pull on over on. Sa'hala, being the harsh leader that he is, touches his finger to Grimwa's face, dealing 3 points of fire damage (from Grim's total of 67 HP), and says to him, "And if You open your mouth, and say more than is needed, there will be great consequences."

Immediately afterwards, when Sa'hala turns his back on Grimwa, we hear these famous last words...."I cast Ghoul Gauntlet on Sa'hala"

In case you're wondering, Ghoul Gauntlet is a level 6 Wizard spell from the Spell Compendium.

the events go as follows...

DM: You're doing what?
Nad: You heard me, I'm casting Ghoul Gauntlet on Sa'hala.
DM: Why are you doing that?
Nad: That F'er just burnt my face.
Me: Dude, for like 3 damage.
Nad: I don't care. He just took away 20% of my hit points
Players: *all laughing*
DM: 3 damage is not 20% of 67.
Me: *laughing* are you sure you want to do this? Over a cigarret burn?
Alya: Nad, why do you always do this? Someone does the slightest thing to you, and you have to go and bring a gun to a knife fight?

Needless to say, Sa'hala's cohort sacrifices herself by jumping in the way and taking the spell Grimwa's spell. Sa'hala get's ticked at the attempt on his life, and that his most loyal subject may die.......so Grimwa get's a flaming falchion burried in this chest.

We've since banned the reading of comic books during play time.

So you highly discourage people from making characters that are highly paranoid, and extremely untrusting every single PC they come across? So much so that at the slightest confrontation they pull out a dagger, and try to kill other PCs?

How do you prevent someone from making multiple characters that all follow that same mindset 9 out of 10 times?

Funny you should mention conflict. We just ended the campaign two days ago. By the end of the game I was role playing two characters...the efreeti who was trying to kill Grimwa, and a druid that was trying save grimwa from the efreeti. The only reason my druid had to help put him down was because he crossed an uncrossable line.

If such a character is so damn paranoid, why is he in any social setting at all? He should be a hermit somewhere. Seriously, if one player is causing all this conflict, I'd talk to him about it or just plain remove him from the group. This kind of crap ruins the game for me. Now, if this is what your group enjoys, that's great. But don't expect me to say I think it's a wonderful play style.

I like to point out that Sasha the Maker was the most loyal and willing participant in the beginning, you guys made him that way. How do you start a campaign where every one he cared for died in the beginning...He was loyal to Sir Tom's character, he was loyal to your highness, saved the entire group from the dragon and yet got labeled as a thief.......Then about being paranoid that same dragon comes back as an abomination that was created by another dragon where both wanted his hide. Not to mention living in a town as a slave surrounded by suicidal goblins who forced him into a battle with the dwarves...which reminds me there is still a floating dwarf in the ethereal plane that I am sure is more then sober now.....Sasha killed twice ....one by sharks which is anticlimactic and the second time by the very team mate he was trying to save from a dragon...Died of stupidity....damnstraight....died for caring.

True D&D players follow their characters to the bitter end.

I salute Nad, a truly dedicated D&D player!

And some of those were pretty mean. It's VERY hard to survive when the own party is fighting against you. What are you suposed to do? Don't sleep and always keep out of melee and spell range? It's suposed to be a team game!

Hell, if I had a teammate put me half dead into a prison, you can be sure I would seek revenge very soon. And the whole giant toad thingy also. How the hell were you supsed to know it gulped things first and asked things later? A true party would have went and tried to save him, not just stand watching. Hell, more of half of the TPK of my party have been due to we trying to save one of us in a tight situation.

I think what he meant is that he discourages is "conflict within the party."

I have a very simple house-rule that we all play by in our group. Call it Rule -1 if you will as it actually supercedes even Rule 0: your PCs do not have to love each other, or even like each other, but they do need to find a way to work together as a party. Period.

Probably the most stupid death I witnessed was then the three of us were attacking a house, and the guards therein to assassinate someone. Due to a Deck of Many Things (long story) the group had a level 5 wizard, a level 2 cleric, and a level 1/1 barbarian/fighter (me).

Things weren't going so well, so I ran away. The cleric followed suit. At this point, the wizard had run out of spells, and was sick of using his crossbow, so he ran up to the guards and engaged in melee. One round later he was dead (5d4 HP isn't that much, really).

Never before have I seen a wizard jump into melee, when the rest of the party ran away... :nonono:

I guess you guys have never hear the expression "Bringing a gun to a knife fight". You guys seem to think that our characters were purposely looking for reasons to kill his character. Lemme give you an example. The whole imprisonment thing you seem to be giving him so much sympathy for was for good reason.

As the story line progressed he was taken in by a goblin kingdom to make weapons for them to use in a war against a dwarven kingdom. He was not taken as a slave. He was financially compensated for his work, given adequate accomodations, and was allowed to even father children with the goblin women....please don't ask. The NPC he so loyaly followed, Your Highness, was an NPC my character had to follow as well.

My Character Sa'hala had two reasons to go to the Goblin islands. Rescue Sasha the Maker fromt he goblins (at the request of Your Highness and other PCs), and destroying the goblin kingdom's defenses (a mission we resieved from the dwarves).

We rescued Sasha. We had him back on our ship, where we were planning our attack on the Goblins. In the middle of planning the attack, Sasha becomes beligerant when we start talking of using him as bait for a distraction. He keeps claiming "I don't know you guys, you'll probably just double cross me" "I'm not going back there" "I won't be a slave again" (even though he wasn't truely a slave to begin with.)

Mind you we're all working for Your Highness (supposedly the only character Sasha trusts). Your Highness tries to get him to work with us. Sasha is became bothersome while we were planning, and Sa'hala tried to intimidate him into shutting up. At this point Sasha whips out a Wand of Grim Revenge and uses it on Sa'hala.

What does Grim Revenge do you ask? Well let me enlighten you.

Grim Revenge is a spell that viciously ripps the hand off of the targets arm, grants the hand life, and has it attack the target it was ripped from.

Remember this is Dan's very first character in the campaign, and his first meeting with Sa'hala who, at least before this confrontation, was trying to help him. You're honestly going to tell me that an Efreeti who's hand was just ripped off by a guy with a wand has no reason to want revenge?

Read of on the Efreet. They're ill tempered, they hold grudges, and they are extraordinarily vindictive.

The imprisonment part came when the dwarves found out Sasha created a bomb that killed a bunch of their people. Naturally Sa'hala was only to happy to take on a mission that required deliverying Sasha to the dwarves for execution. Sa'hala new Sasha was a magic user and a menace. So of coures being true to the vindictive nature of the Efreet Sa'hala broke Sasha's hands and legs, imprisoned him, and didn't allow him to sleep.

That's really how it went for all of his characters. Or at least any of the one's who Sa'hala killed. Sa'hala works with them, but they always start crap in the worst ways.
PeopleMcNuggets

03-23-07, 03:50 PM
I aslo forgot to mention that thanks to our DM throwing in a Deck of Many Things, Sa'hala went through an alignment change from Lawful Good to Neutral Good. He tried to make pease with Sasha buy giving him a peace offering of volcanic glass from the Elemental Plane of Fire. Sa'hala didn't take to kindly to Sasha taking the offering and throwing it off the side of our ship.

Sa'hala went back to evil alignment when he decided to break Sasha's hands after he had already been captrued.

1. It was pretty obvious when every single gripley in the enormous room was making a point to keep a certian distance away from the Chub Toad.

2. The griplies told us, and him, it's not wise to go near the Chub Toad. He was warned.

3. The griplies revered the Chub Toad as their god. Sa'hala was pretty much the leader of this group, and appointed captain of the ship we lived on. His rule is everyone is responsible for their own actions. He and the crew were there to gain the aid of the griplies. We were stuck in a situation and desperately need their help. Sa'hala may have been Lawful Evil, but he was still a diplomat. He's not going to kill a supposed Diety, in the middle of a civilization of that diety's followers, just to save someone who had just joined the crew, and hadn't yet done anything to prove his worth to the ship. To tell you the truth that character's death inadvertantly increase our reputation with the griplies. So in Sa'hala's eyes it was a worth while loss.

LoL pretty much.

A lot of people ask us why we keep this guy in our group. But honestly some of the best times we've had were his characters getting into trouble with NPCs or PCs. The crap Sasha the Maker started actually drove the majority of the story line in the beginning.

I wish I had gotten in on this thread sooner, because after reading... bah, seems more like alot of unfortunate events, not stupidity.

Stupidity is a player in my campaign, Justin (my younger brother, so I give him the benefit of the doubt here) who has been through about 9 characters... though not all of them died, some just left.

I will only go over the deaths.
The first death was with his "martial artist" aka, monk without the cool stuff. He played his character to be SO annoying, and allied against my character on so many occasions, that one day, I told him, "If you act in a way not conforming to societies definition of sane ONE more time, I am going to shoot you!" He said ok, turned around, and starting singing "We're off to kill some people!" to the tune of the wizard of ozz. I got decently high damage with that shot... more than I had on any monster thus far. So... I just kept attacking, character dead.
The next time was with a Changeling Warmage. I actually liked this character, so I was sad to see this happen. He saw a crater, and in the middle it was described as "sand with bugs crawling in and out of it like it wasn't even there". He decides to step onto it... it is a trap, he fails his saves, and plummets to his death. No one was there to help him. We had previously saved him from similar deaths twice before, all to falls.
The next character was a Kelvezu (not sure on spelling... but the bird things) Warlock. He was doing well this time too. But when an obviously higher level character showed up to kick the ass of a village of lizardfolk... singlehandedly, he decided this guy must be an enemy. He said something that has to this day gone down in history, "I shoot the familiar!" Which was the higher level character's Fire Mephit familiar. He did about 6 damage... and then received 56 in return from the Duskblade (he didn't know before hand what the guy was). He learned pretty quick, don't attack allies.
This last character has not died yet, but has come so close on so many occasions that he is worth noting. The first incident was on an ancient ship we found. He told the ship to "activate self destruct". Thankfully, my character overrid it. The next time was when he insulted a priest of the silver flame... I thank god for my high charisma. The next time was when we were in a camp full of 300 paladins and soldiers. He went into full detail of how we killed our guides and were carrying prohibited technology. Again, thank you god for high charisma and a higher bluff check. The last time was actually the death I would love for my character if ever I died... Miraculously, he lived through this one. While spider climbing on a wall, he jumps off, onto a gargantuan beetle of some kind (CR 16 is all i know about it for sure) and does so much damage from the fall (and takes damage as well) that he nearly killed the beetle right then, which would have fallen into the lake of acid below, with him on top. Notably, this would have been a great death, but he didn't kill it, and managed to jump off in time, before we finished it off.

No it was not animated. It was admittedly magical, but it was a harmless spell or so I thought....

Agreed and co-signed. No offense, but I wouldnt want to play in that kind of enviornment....player vs player is fine and all, but the way you guys go about things just seems childish.....unless "Nad" is just a jerk of a player and doing way more things then you mentioned.

And I feel as if 3 points of hostile fire damage is MORE than enough reason to attack you back....a dagger does 1d4.... If I walked up to you in real life and stabbed you with a dagger in the torso, would you be like, "Haha, that's cool... guess I had that one coming for not paying attention.". Marine Drill Sergants dont even go that over-board with punishment!

Just my take.............

Yeah he's done worse. The listings I opened this thread with were just the paraphrased versions of much longer tales.

When he made that character, it he established that in some way he was part of the ships crew. Sa'hala was the captain of that ship. I can't stress the lawful evil nature of that character enough, as he ran the ship effeciently with an iron fist (Sa'hala was very liberal with ordering lashings). For the most part the crew feared him, but they obeyed. Even that character, Grimwa, and Sa'hala were getting along decently.

Now bearing that in mind that was 3 fire damage after being ordered, two times, not to speak and for not paying attention when everyone was planning our course of action to deal with a red dragon. In return for 3 fire damage, he attempts to kill me with a spell that would've turned me into a ghoul (that is if outsiders can be turned into ghouls). Even that attempt failed because my loyal 2nd in command jumped in the way and took the spell for me.

Once again "Gun to a knife fight".

Out of game, he should've already learned that if you're going to try and kill Sa'hala, make sure you succeed.

Marine Drill Sargents aren't nearly as harsh on their men as officers in the Russian military.

My favorite was this one barbarian under 2nd Edition (back then, barbarians hated magic and destroyed it whenever they could, silly barbarians). This barbarian decided to destroy a magical item because it was talking to him. The result was spectacular. He vaporized himself; a barbarian companio; a highly regarded shaman; an extremely important, intensely magical, very intelligent, Sword of Angels; the holy barbarian shrine; several tons of gravel; and miscellaneous insects and small furry animals.

On a high note, the crater that resulted now bears his name. LOL.

Yeah, good job giving a newbie a horrible experience with D&D.

Advice for poepleMcnuggets, and Alya: Grow the :censored: up. I :censored: hate bullies. You do realize that only one of those death could attributed to his being stupid. 5 because peoples character killed his, and 3 because the DM is a douge bag.

Seriously you guys a re right piece of work. you torchure the poor kids character in game, repeatedly. And then come on here to humiliate him in real life? What being an asshat in D&d wasn't good enough you gotta dis him on the internet too? You think your impressing people? Your not, the only thing you've managed to do is provide another example of why your a dick, and Sasha the maker needs to find a new group. Personally i think i auto to save the link to this thread and use you as an example when ever someone wants to know what a Steve player is. My only hope is that your face meets with the steal chair of justice soon. And sasha gets to watch, and/or take a swing.

My advice for sasha: Stop playing with these asshats, and finda real group of friends. honestly no D&D would better then putting up with that crap. Especially after that blantant attempt to smear you on the internet. what are they 5?

Actually if you want to get'm back make a druid 13, and smoke their characters. I'm after this the boards community, and myself, would be more then willing to help you build it. Although it sounds like your DM may cheat to prevent this. Sorry he comes acroos as an asshat too. I recomend a new group.

First off, Sasha is not a kid. He's 32 years old. And I as I mention before, he's played with our group for 3 years, and he's played d&d years before he joined us.

Secondly lemme fill you in on another part of the story. Sa'hala died in that campaign defending Alya. So I had to create a new character. Funny how you mention druids, beause that's what I made. An Aasimar druid. This druid actually took a liking to Nad's last character, and we worked well.

Only problem was one other player liked Sa'hala so much, he had him resurrected. So I had to character in this same campaign, one Lawful Neutral, and one Lawful Good. At times I had to play them both at the same time.

I S you not, in the last confrontation between Sa'hala and Grimwa my Druid character, Chornus, jumped in to save him.

So in essence I was playing, at the same time, two characters who were trying to kill each other over Grimwa.....well that was until Grimwa tried to kill one of the other PC who were involved in the killing of the Blue dragon. that particular blue dragon was significance in my back story. Since they killed him they were highly revered to my and my druidic circle.

Yeah, because it's very funny to send player A to talk with the angry god who eats first and ask questions later. Our party once died trying to rescue a friend who had been imprisioned by an evil god. We all died just fighting his pets, but we never backed off. You, on the other hand, throw a guy with aparently 0 ranks in diplomacy and bluff to try to convince the all mighty god. Yeah, genious. Did the DM at least warned him when he was geting too close? Or it was just:

"Okay, I approach to the god"
"Your character is swalloed and killed. Make a new one"

Had he truly got any chance at all?

His characters didn't like being bullied. Hell, if you are playing a lawfull evil efreeti, I see no reason why the other character would like your character unless he was some kind of twisted ancient evil guy.

"Hi, I'm Efreeti mc Efreeti, I like to torture and kill people in my free times and I don't know such things as companionship, piety and compassion. Wanna be my friend?"

And cohorts. You get faithfull cohorts that sacrifice for you, he gets sadisitic companions that hurt him. Very faaaair.

And by the rules, that would have failed. There is no such thing as contegency jump. The DM house ruled it to screw him, and let you get your way.

Finnaly, you claim your character is smart for killing and torturing left and right to satisfy his own greed, while his character is stupid for following his beliefs?

Nad and I played a campaign once where we technically adopted brothers...he was a Dwarc Fighter (half dwarf/half orc), Grimloch, and I was Halfing Rogue, Arak'i. We played great together, and we played a few campaigns together....that was until Grimloch got distracted in combat, and accidnetly threw his dwarven waraxe in to Arak'i's chest and killed him.

So what, he didn't get a save or anything? Sorry, but by level 12 or whatever (heck, even level 8) I would be hacking my way out, that frog would be showing some discomfort, if not a hole in its stomach. By level 8, I faced adult black dragons... I died, but I didn't back down. My party came with me, it was an epic battle until i realized I was the only one with a high enough will save to resist their fear. Although at the time, neither my DM or myself knew that past a certain HD dragons only shaken you. Had we known that, the battle might have been doable.

Point is, we were given every chance to flee, and when we took up the fight, we did it as a group. Only one person didn't fight, and that our dragon disciple, who actually had reason not to. But at the least at the end of the fight, he ressurected me with an item he had been carrying. The difference of your group to mine, even as disfunctional as we were, we looked out for each other as best we could.

While I agree with many people's points on the subject, I have to say that the original poster does have a point; The guy played for 3 years with this group. I would have cut my losses early on and found a different group, but he seems to enjoy playing with them.
I have never been into the auto-hatred that many players have when they role up new characters in an existing campaign ("He is Sasha's cousin's nephew's best friend out for vengeance!") It is both childish and a bore. I have engaged in it only once, and that was because the group I was playing with consisted of a bunch of morons who kept killing me and another new player for easy xp and items. Instead of leaving immediately upon discovering that I was gaming with a group of sub-humans, I and the new guy created a pair of rogues who escaped from the group early on. We proceeded to stalk them the next night and assassinated all of them while the party rested. We burned their bodies and scattered their ashes into a river. We sold their goods at cut rate prices. We both promised to show up at the next gaming session after the jerks rolled up new characters. We never bothered.
Perhaps the gamers in the original poster's group are fantastic role players. Perhaps they are the ultimate munchkin gamers. Who really knows and cares. Easiest way to forget about them is to avoid this post and not respond. No skin off of your backs or theirs.

Contingency jump? what the hell crap is that? Well at least your honest about your cheating...kinda. And seriously why the hell is a 13th level party going up against a CR 18 Kraken?

OK, I'm a player in this group as well, I've decided give my 2 cent, since everyone else is, the contingency jump, was me having a ready action against the Kracken to defend us, cause i didn't trust the thing, because IT WAS A FREAKIN KRACKEN!!!, anyway when it attack grim, i ask if i could reflex save in-front of the attack knowing from previous encounters that grim is a pansy when i comes to damage, so i took half of it for him, i think i was a legit move, might not follow the rules precisely, but i save a team members life, that normal would have died...again. 88 damage all together and i took 44 of it. now the CR 18 is explainable, there is 7 of us playing in the group, so CR is from what i understand a little trail and error sometimes for the DM, we actually handle 2 Kracken well, one survived and we enslaved it kind of, well i actually was just waiting for it to betray us so i could kill it, i hated that thing. back to defending the CR choice, in the end the CR18 Kracken Die fighting Two level 13's in less the 4 attack only hitting with it first semi surprise round attack, cause i hate nad, i really do, but when we work together its a beautiful chaos, in which enemies do not stand a chance in hell, but for the record, he brought all of the deaths on himself, hell even i wanted to kill a couple of his characters, he pushes buttons at the wrong times, or just make deadly mistakes, most (not all) of his character can't take damage, its a bad trait to have when you always getting in disagreements with something or someone and when your attitude is "if you physically touch me, in any way, you deserve to die" you will get into a lot of disagreements. our Dm is A Good Dm and i don't think none of us would complain about his DMing skills, not even nad, its hard to run a group of 7 player and keep the story going, he does a good job, thats all, I'm done

True as that may be, no one asked either. See what happens when you assume? ;)

Sasha - killed by sharks - PvE
Zuli-Kla - burned to death on a boat he jumped onto - PvE
Hozai the Seer - Died from dmg in combat, ultimately eaten by a Purple Worm - PvE
Hozai (again) - Teleported himself to the Plane of Positive Energy - PvE
Sasha (again) - Killed by his only friend, a harpy named Darvon (another player) - PvP
Viajodor - Death by Chub Toad (in all reality a death based on an inside joke between the DM and Nad dating back to our Magic the Gathering days) - PvE
Grimwa - Killed three times due to bad character relations - PvP

See, he had more characters die from PvE related incidents that PvP incidents. More so than any of the other players in the game that lost only one or two.

Most people caught on to the humor and started posting tales of player deaths from their games. Some were damn funny like death by Kumquat Tree. I'm still laughing over idea of that.

Sasha - killed by sharks - PvE -- Couldn't fight off sharks becuase you had torchured him, and stole all his stuff. Actually onthat not he was only eaten by sharks becuase he was running from that asshat you call a character. PvP.
Zuli-Kla - burned to death on a boat he jumped onto - PvE
Hozai the Seer - Died from dmg in combat, ultimately eaten by a Purple Worm - PvE
Hozai (again) - Teleported himself to the Plane of Positive Energy - PvE --I don't recall positive energy being anything but helpful. Unless your undead. -- DiaD
Sasha (again) - Killed by his only friend, a harpy named Darvon (another player) - PvP
Viajodor - Death by Chub Toad (in all reality a death based on an inside joke between the DM and Nad dating back to our Magic the Gathering days) - PvE -- Again This was DM fait. "Nad you died, role up a new character. -- DiaD
Grimwa - Killed three times due to bad character relations - PvP

DiaD = DM is a douge bag.

So our actual ratio is: PvP: 5 @ 55%, DiaD: 2 @ 22%, PvE: 2 @ 22%. Just over half the time he is killed by another character in the group. Just exactly how does this seem in the least remotely fair? I can't imagine it being very much fun for Nad, maybe the rest of you. But you seem to be just sick to take enjoyment at anothers misery. Seriousely Nad has just as much chance to die becuase the DM feels like being a dick as he does with enemy action. And worse he is twice as likely to loss a character to one of you asshats. That just is not right.

You call this role-playing. I call it bullying. So no I don't get angry over people RPing, and doing whatever. I get really ****** at bullies like yourselves. You suck.

As for weather or not I'm an upity player...Actually I tend to DM more often then not. And I will say this, I've never arbitrially killed anyones character, let alone the same player multiple times. And quiet frankly PvP just does not happen at my table. Mind you I have a strick no ******* policy so that may be what keeps players like thoughs found in your group out.

Yeaa he's just luaghing it up. Sounds like hes having the most fun of his life.

I'f you honestly think that these are the words of someone who is enjoying this, then you have some seriouse mental, and anti-social issues.

When I first started playing D&D (before 3.0, it was a mix of 1 & 2) my Human Ranger was killed nightly by the party's kender thief. The first couple of times were accidental, but it soon became a re-occuring theme. My DM was kind enough to supply me with a ring of regeneration after the first few resses (the rest of the party was higher level). Did I get upset? Not really. Like I said, the first few times were accidental (house-rule that the kender had a % chance of having any one item you go to use, based on their kleptomania. This led to a lot of "I swing my sword" "What sword" "KENDER!!!") so I didn't really get upset. After that, it was just a big joke. It was expected, and usually role-played well. I was Kenny, back before South Park. And thanks to DM, I was never out of commision for the game, just a few rounds at most.

First off I would like to commend you on your eloquant use of ***** and ******. Truly a vocabulary to be marveled at.

Secondly, Mr. " I DM more often then not", if you DM so much then you must obviously have a DM's Guide, right? Right. So then in your DM's Guide you'd be able to see, on Page 157-158, there is a complete description of the Positive Energy plane....stop me if you read this....which obviously must have...

THE POSITIVE ENERGY PLANE
The Positive Energy Plane is best compared to the heart of a star. It is a continual furnace of creation, a domain of brilliance beyond the ability of mortal eyes to comprehend. Its very being wavers and ripples as new matter and energy is born and swells to full power like a bursting fruit. it is a vibrant plane, so alive with itself that travelers themselves are empowered by visiting it.
The Positive Energy Plance has no survace and is akin to the Elemental Plane of Air with its wide-open nature. However, every bit of this plane glows brightly with innate power. This power is dangerous to mortal forms, which are not made to handle it.
Despite the beneficial effects of the plane, it is one of the most hostile of te Inner Planes. An unprotected character on this plane swells with power as positive energy is force-fed into her. Then, her mortal frame unable to contain that power, she immolates as if she were a small planet caught at the edge of a supernova. Visits to the Positive Energy Plane are brief, and even then travelers must be heavily protected.

Furthermore, on page, 149 of the DM's guild you'll find a description of the traits of Positive-Dominant planes. In the third paragraph of the Positive-Dominant description you'll find...

Major positive-dominant planes (which Nad landed on) to even further. A creature on a major positive-dominant plane must make a DC 15 Fortitude save to avoide being blinded for 10 rounds by the brilliance of the srroundings. Simply being on the plane grants fast healing 5 as an extraordinary ability. In addition, those at full hit points gain 5 addition temporary hits points per round. These temporary his points fade 1d20 rounds after the creature leaves the major positive-dominant plane. However, a creature must make a DC 20 Fortitude save each round that its temporary hit points exceed its normal hit point total. Failing the saving throw results in the crature exploding in a riot of energy, killing it.

But I'm sure you knew that.

That was Nad's fault he ended up on that plane. Hence why Hozai's death was the most brilliant of all of Nad's deaths, and our most favorite by far.

As for Sasha and the sharks? Well after some roplaying Sasha ended up working for a goblin nation that was at war against a Dwarven kingdom. At this time Sasha wasn't even with the main party, so our DM was actually DMing two game at the same time, Sasha's game and the Groups game.

Sasha made a bomb for the goblins. They used this bomb to kill a large squad of dwaves. The dwarves found out Sasha made it, so they put a very large price on his head. Since Sa'hala and the group had already allied with the Dwarves, they had to abduct Sasha as part of their mission. He was imprisoned because he was to be delivered to the dwarves for execution for crimes against their people. He escaped imprisonment by jumping into shark infested water, while bleeding and disguised as a giant manta ray.

What happens when you spill blood in shark infested water? You should know this.

His roleplaying decisions, and in-game actions, put him in a situation where he would have to make a decision....take his chances in shark infested water, or take his chances with PO'ed dwarves.

Since his character was killed not by a PC's hand, but by NPC sharks...it's PvE

I still love you though.

Here's something I posted on another thread...
For instance, one of my PCs plays a Kobold. Always plays a kobold. Each kobold is different, but they are all melee oriented and they are descendents of each other. Anyway, the last one he played, a monk named Pinten, had a habit of dying at least once every game session. Some sessions more than once. His character I was okay with dying, though. He always died in a comedic way that just happened to be in a convenient place for resurrection.

Squashed by a dead hill giant falling off of a mountain 12 miles from the nearest city.
Leaped from a tree to attack lizardfolk who were busy killing one of his friends and died by failing his jump, tumble, and Fortitude Save.
Collapsed in a desert from heat exhaustion. (This one wasn't convenient, actually)
Attempted to defend a church to Pelor by standing between it and a Juggernaut.
Run over by the same Juggernaut.
Rolled a high enough Str check to rip a tree out of the ground and use it to crush both himself and the advanced dire boar that had invaded a covey of monks.
Was Plane Shifted/Teleported to the Elemental Plane of Earth. All manner of shunting damage was begotten.
Sphere of Annihilation fell on him.
Ogre Mage cleaved him with a great sword. (first boss).
Running jump over the first 30 or so feet of a ravine.
Cleaved himself. (He knows he's a monk, but he has a thing for swords).
Slow Fell down a canyon. The side he was on was a permanent Wall of Stone. It was dispelled.
Fought a skeletal shadow dragon, won, then fell screaming from the tower as it used its final action to grapple him, then threw itself off.
Great Cleaved himself. *Don't ask. He managed to kill himself twice on one turn, okay?*

And he's not the only one.
Our "Expert Elven Archer" and his favourite bow, the "Fiery Sure-Shot", has shot himself with said bow no less than 27 times, lit himself on fire 8 times, and fell off of a building after being shot by his own bow and lighting himself on fire twice.
More later.

However, in the player's defense, he is the bravest of all the players. More so than the Barbarians and Fighters and Paladins, even. He is cunning, clever, and calculated; He always finds a way to accomplish a task, without metagaming...He just knows how to manipulate his equipment and environment to suit his needs. He is a very good player with a bit of an unlucky streak.
One of his bravest moments...
The party found itself in a coliseum. An abandoned coliseum, that, for whatever reason, appeared to have the ruins of a city within it. A full city inside an arena. Anyway, a gate opened, and an Advanced Slaughterstone Behemoth came towering into view. An epic battle ensued, ending with a final, desperate act by his first character. He leaped off of the tallest building adjacent to the construct, and, with some magical backup courtesy of a PC and my DMPC, rose into the skyline directly above the creature by about 10000 ft. He began to fall, and released all manner of Contingent Spells upon himself. Buffed more so by the casters, he fell onto an exposed opening in the creature created by the party rogue, bypassing the DR. He did die by that as well, but he made a crater of the Behemoth, spanning a quarter of the city, and toppling three buildings.
The image of him falling was spectacular. He had used every potion he had on him prior to the jump, and, as he fell, unsheathed his signature weapon, The Sword of Klic (named after himself, of course), a Masterwork Mercurial Adamantine Greatsword, with several enhancements and magical abilities (we later made it into a legendary weapon), falling straight down, headfirst, he positioned his sword down, as well, to drive straight through the monster. It was absolutely incredible. After 9 years, we still remember that glorious day.
That was first character, and that event is why he models each of his other characters after the first.
All kobolds. All descendants. All brave. All inexplicably unfortunate. And all of them with a really big sword.

Well, I am the DM of Nad or Dan and his many deaths. I can say without a doubt that I gave him opportunities. I don't kill people for no reason. There was a roll for everything.

I am not, however an easy DM. I challenge my players with RPG decisions and strong opponents. Sometimes they end up fighting CRs well above their own. If they screw up, or somehow separate themselves from each other, they often die. I have no rules about characters fighting one another. I let people make whatever characters they want. They can make up their own races if they want even. It's my only rule that when you make a player that you will make him so that he gets along with the rest of the group. If they fail at that they end up dying on their own, problem solved. I do not let players bully another unless they have a legitamite story reason, and if I think it's unfair then I don't give them a penalty when they come back with their new character. I don't go 100% by the rules, but the rules don't have 100% of the actions people want to take... so I improvise.

Dan is a great player to our group and has played some of our most memorable heroes and villains. So what if he dies. It was a great story and he knows it and revels in it 8). Sasha was his favorite character, and it was because of all the things that did happen to him. How unlucky he was with his party members and the events that happened to him are what made him interesting. I have to say that Dan's characters were always the ones that dealt damage/intended death upon the other players first.

Whether or not I'm a good DM is up for a debate. My players seem to think so. I think the ultimate test is to ask yourself "Did everyone in my group have a good time today because of my game? Is what we did today going to make a great story to tell?" If you answer yes then you're a good DM in my opinion.

BTW.... I love those kobold characters hahaha

@ Mcnuggets: So did sasha really get the saves?

methinks it was more like the frog. "ok Nad you dead, role up a new one." Pardon my sinisism, but i find a 13th level character failing saves DC 15, and 20 kinda far fetched. I also have a feeling you just recently looked up though, so I also doubt it very much that your DM even knew thoughs particular rules.

As for the sharks. You may say that it was the sharks that delt the killing blow, which it was. However it was your PC that broke is legs, and it was your character that inflicted the injuries whcih cuased the bleeding. It was your character that torchured him while in captivity. And finally you were taling him to be executed! What did you expect him to do? Nice team there asshat.

Neither of those arguements change the fact that Nad is twice as likely to die by your hand as he is anything else. Stop being a team killing ****tard. Stop it now.

@ the DM:

On two separate occasioned you ruled that a character was simplely dead. No save, no oppsed checks just dead. Thats a really jerkish thing to do. On at least one occasion that I know of you crafted the situation so that the party would be at odds with Nads character. That aint cool, personally as a DM I discurage PvP, not encourage it.

On that note it dsoesn't actually come up at my table. My 6 players are all friends, and respect each other. I had an issue with it a few years ago, but that player was removed under the no asshat policy.

Regardless, I have to call it as I see. One of your players is not having fun. Further more the rest of your players seem to be having fun at his expense. Again this is unacceptable. I would that this kind of crap would be left on the school yard.

Instead of making excuses, I recomend solving the problem.

@ Dragonsprit.

The hammer gun is exactly that, a gun that shoots out hammers. I forget who coined the phrase, but the quote was, "Your DM should be shoot. In the face. With a hammer!" since then it is kinda the general expression used for a dolt DM. Generally when DMs do really assinine things, like stupid house rules, or repeated high handed asshatery.

In a simmiliar vain the term used for generally bad player is "steve".

Yes he did roll the saves. Why do you think I knew where to point you in the DMs guild on the subject. Hozai actually lasted 3 mins on the plane of positive energy before exploding.

In Defesnse of DragnSpirit, our DM, when it cam to the Chub Toad (upon double checking with DragnSpirit), Nad failed a DC 17 reflex save to get out of the way of the Chub Toads bite.

It made be hard for you to believe that DC 15s and DC 20s can't be met by a lvl 13 character, but sometimes d20s roll 1s. Chance is fickle that way.

As for Sasha, since you seem to have such a crush on the character... breaking a spell caster's hands, and not letting him sleep, can you think of a better way to pacify a spell caster who's tried to kill you after you, in the beginning, tried to help him? If a magic user uses magic to rip off your hand and kill you with it, what other way are you going to prevent him from using magic, again, to try and kill you?

And btw, TPK, you are an upity player. Judging by your strongly, though childishly, worded responses you're getting all flustered over the chaotic antics of a group you have nothing to do with. Which I find funny to no end. I can't help it if you fell for Nad's post as Sasha.

You keep on comparing us to your D&D group "I don't let PvP fly in my group", "I have a no asshat policy", "I kick players out of my group for that kind of behavior" "that kind of thing doesn't come up at my table", all the while ignoring the fact that we don't care how you run your group, because it's your group. We delight in our group's chaos. The crap we do to each other has had devestating effects on DragnSpirit's world, and has driven most of the story lines we play. And like our DM stated, what it all boils down to at the end of the session was "did we all have a good time" and the answer is always yes.

I can imagine you working for PETA or some type of "rights" activist groups seeing as how they're the type of people like you. The ones who get offended for other people, most typically when no one cares enough to be offended. If nad had that much of a problem with this group he could've left it anytime during the 3 years he's played. But he hasn't so what does that tell you? He's a decent player, and a decent DM, but does does stupid stuff that puts his characters in difficult situations. We laugh at it, he laughs at it, other people on this thread have laughed at it, and a good time is had by all. Then we move on. However, that point seems to escape you.

I might also add that Nad and I are the founders of the particular group, and, for all intents and purposes, the leaders of it. And the one and only time we've had to kick someone out of the group was the time Alya smacked Nad upside the head with a character sheet. But we don't hold grudges in our circle. We've long since let Alya back in. Other than that, pretty much anything goes, as long as nothing gets physical. That's where the line is drawn.

Even Nad, as our current DM, doesn't discourage pvp among players, despite all the crap PvP caused in DragnSpirits game. That's just how we do it. But that in no way, shape or form means I want you to come down off your high horse, 'cause we're all having too much fun with this.

btw.... I still love you. Have my baby

Ok first off; a bite attack, like all other attacks, is done like so: 1) make attack role. 2) Add modifiers. 3) compare to defenders AC, Armour class you know what that is right?. 4) Determine result. Now grapples on the other hand are oppsed by grapple checks. Not reflex saving throughs. Although it does fit that your DM would have you dodge attacks with reflex saving throws, and completely ignore the rules for grappling, this is also contradictory to what you said earlier, when you indacated that it went like so, "Nad I approach the taod. DM: You get eaten role a new character."

It made be hard for you to believe that DC 15s and DC 20s can't be met by a lvl 13 character, but sometimes d20s roll 1s. Chance is fickle that way. Barring natural ones it should be near impossible to fail thoughs checks. unless the character is poorly build. Which may or may not be the case.

Again i will point out that you were taking to be executed. One would logically assume that he would have tried to escape, and since you were doing the equivilent of killing him. Taking him to be killed. His attack on you was quiet justified. Thus I am forced to conclude that had you not been an asshat, the incadent would not have occured.

As for how I would have prevent a wizard from using magic against me. Lets see:
1) tied his hands....
2) used subdual damge to render him unconsiouse....
3) Remove his spell book, and spell components...
4) AMF

Again the use of torchure was completely unnecesary. It was just you been an asshat, and a bully.

And btw, TPK, you are an upity player. Judging by your strongly, though childishly, worded responses you're getting all flustered over the chaotic antics of a group you have nothing to do with. Which I find funny to no end. I can't help it if you fell for Nad's post as Sasha. sure whatever....He still stated that he wasn't having fun. I call it like i see it. your a bully, and an *******.

No I quiet aware that you are a selfish arse, and only care about yourself. However I am A drawing the comparison between your group and mine. Namely my group isn't full of asshats like yourself. And B, PvP isn't a natural thing that always happens. Sometimes player decide they like each other, and want to get along.

Not that whom i work for is pretenant to this discussion...Also on that not, just becuase your a creul asshat who likes to torchure small animals, becuase he can't get a date on friday noght doesn't mean everyone is like that. We'll also ignore that your story changes everytime someone points out that you are in fact being an asshat... Nad still said that he was not having fun.

So your asshat towards even your long standing friends. i know a guy like this... he is still an jerk and no one really likes to play with him..he's been hanging around for four years. Just has other qualities.

Even Nad, as our current DM, doesn't discourage pvp among players, despite all the crap PvP caused in DragnSpirits game. That's just how we do it. But that in no way, shape or form means I want you to come down off your high horse, 'cause we're all having too much fun with this. It ruined one game so more of the same is the to go? Your game, I guess.

btw.... I still love you. Have my baby :love:Hmm that would be rather difficult as i am male. However since it is unlikely that you can in fact hold down any sort of relationship, with a female or otherwise, I can understand how you may be confised as to were badies comfrom. I sujjesting using the internet to find out. It may relieve some tension, and hey maybe then you'll be less of an asshat.

Don't worry Jayne, I'm just having a discussion with the guy. TPK is entertaining me to no end. I like the guy. Besides I'm not taking anything he says to heart. Mainly because in my experience when people start turning to personal attacks, one word insults like 'asshat' and wild assumptions of one's personal life, it's due to the fact that they've just run out of material.

Yeaa he's just luaghing it up. Sounds like hes having the most fun of his life.

I'f you honestly think that these are the words of someone who is enjoying this, then you have some seriouse mental, and anti-social issues.

If you MUST know the ugly numbers of it all I'll give them to you. I was the DM so I'd know them better than anyone else.

On Hozai going teleporting himself to the plane of positive energy he was trying to cast a spell to teleport himself to another plane, he didn't have the materials and he knew it. He was winging it. So I decided to be generous and let him go to a random plane and I wrote down all the planes listed in the DMG plus some other ones. He rolled the positive energy plane. I didn't know what it did at the time so I read the description. It said it was like the center of a star. Not knowing how much damage the center of a star does, I figured it was enough to kill any naturally living thing. So I said he died. Later we found the numbers of it and how long it took to be infused and we did the rolls for it and he did last 3 minutes.

As far as the giant chub toad I did give him a roll. He was the only one who got close to it. (he literally held up his hands 6" apart and said this close) He didn't take any of the hints with it being in a slightly dug out pit, no one near him and none of the party going near it. Neither did he get the hint when it was eyeing him. He knew it was worshiped by the grippli. I gave him plenty of time to go away from it. He just stood there inches from it looking up at it. The chub toad thought he would make a good snack and attacked. I had a CR for it and it was based on similar creatures in the monster manual (it was slightly higher than the groups, but it would only attack if attacked or if someone stood too close.) It hit him. It had improved grapple and swallow whole. It had a very high grapple. It beat his AC, it beat his grapple. He didn't do enough damage to the inside of the toad to cut his way out. I was half expecting his party members to save him, but they would have ruined their relations with the grippli.

On_The_Wings_of_TKP you have been nothing but negative in all of your posts. I've personally talked with Nad and I know he's having fun. He's usually the one that instigates all of the things you don't like in our group. After his character had some misunderstandings and then betrayals and counter betrayals I ran him sperately as a villain. It was hard but it worked out great. At one point he was sitting on top of a dragon's horde all to himself. We're all adults in our game, if we have a problem with one another we talk it out. There is no High School bullying going on here. So just cool it. This is supposed to be a place to share, not a place where you insult people for how they run their games.

I'd just like to say the only reason our group is so chaotic is that we believe in playing out your character in character.

For example, one of our players died. (Recurring theme in this campaign)

Richard "Dick" Awesome is a devout worshipper of Olidamara. His ship is even named "The Olidamara". Richard Awesome also wanted to ressurect the captain of the ship(Richard is the admiral of His Highness's royal fleet), Sa'hala.

Richard could only afford to do one true ressurection, which he obviously chose Sa'hala to receive.

Alya(the character that died in a sonic trap) was to be ressurected as well. Now, there was a choice. Reincarnate or a simple Ressurect. Now, being the lover of chance, wine, and women... Richard, or to be hence called "Dick", found that Reincarnate had that element of chance he so loved. What better way of bringing an ally back to life than to not only leave what the ally comes back as to the gods, but to make a bit of sport out of it.

Now, outside of game, the player of Alya was none too happy with the idea of having his character's fate put into a roll of the dice, especially when there was an alternative that didn't require it.

But in game, even with a little metagaming on my part(I had Dick roll His Highness's royal dice to see if they would use Ressurect or Reincarnate.. 7 or 11 would be reincarnate. I rolled 11. The dice were of course 2d6.)

So there was a grand event of gambling on what Alya would be reincarnated as. Due to blind luck, and a little help from the DM, Alya came back as she was, but 10% prettier and 10% more annoying.

It was all done in character. Reincarnating Alya was what Dick Awesome wanted to do. I would've just ressurected her. But onlookers may see that as simply chaos.

It's what you expect from a CN aligned, slightly nutty alcoholic Admiral with a Quagmire complex.

TPK, you are a bit of a control freak. Not letting the poor PCs' to have any fun. But, because this (or some posts) are turning into a rant, I'm doing some more funny or cool stuff.

One of my fighters (1/2 elf) nearly died in the dumdest way he poked something jiggly. While exploring a dungeon, we came across a white room with a white fountion with a quick silver kind of stuff in it. After my twin Witches tried to dip a ladle and the stuff had not filled the ladle my fighter with an int. of 15 but a wis. of 7 poked it(it was my fault, if I hadn't said anything nothing would have happened) I rolled twice for Will once to see if he would poke it, got a 5, and second time to see if he would poke it with his finger he got a 1. He miserably failed both. He then got a Fort. save, he failed it as well. He is now stunned with a silver tipped finger. the 2 dwarfs took the twins qstaffs and lifted him away from the fountion. By the time the L/G stuff had stopped on a N/G PC, he has a sash line over to his left of silver. The joke in the group is OOoo, Jiggly!(I said that those were his nearly last thoughts.)
There is a dwarf fighter in my group with 20 str. he is STRONG! After my 1/2 elf with his flaming long sword had killed a giant badger that has a death bite on this poor dwarf the elven druid suggest putting out the flames before moving the badger. The Dwarf of course takes offense and bench presses the dead badger( still on fire) on to the elf. Then to help put out the fire, stomps on all flaming parts including the poor elf. Latter on in an effort to save my 1/2 elf he is reduced to 1hp during a surprise attack by ghouls. Both dwarfs were stunned and the 1/2 elf was covered in garlic. Apparently, ghouls like Italian food
For my dungeon that I'm DMing (just started up so they are 1st lvl) I have a 1/2 Celestial Elf with 21 dex, composite longbow +5, Greatsword, and a light mace. She's a cleric of 2nd lvl ( the good cure spells don't start till then) that is fancied by the King She can't stand him and would want to put one of her arrow + critical hit through his head sooner then have brunch with him.(note: that is a total of 39 damage for one arrow from a 2nd lvl cleric.)Her wings are spotted and is a waitress(some days when she isn't drinking apple cider.) at the Fallen Angle Tavern. Hope that lightens the mood!

wow, by far my longest post!:D

So in our D&D group we have...this player.
-SNIP-BLAH-SNIP- The many deaths of Dan....er...I mean Nad.

I feel sorry for Dan, hopefully he comes to his senses, invests in a hammergun, shoots your DM in the face, leaves and finds a better group.

I had a character die one time, because the rest of the group wanted to know why I hadn't used a coup de grace on them because they had just been successfully Held. The player even insisted on it instead of a normal attack because they felt they would survive better. Rolled a natural 1 on the save.

Had another character in another campaign die to a coup de grace from a cr 1/4 goblin, because when he noticed the goblins, stated "I pretend to go back to sleep, and I'm going to completely ignore them if they come over to me. I'm essentially going to be helpless". He thought he'd be able to survive the attack, and in reality if he hadn't rolled a natural 1 on his saving throw, he would have. Tough luck of the dice sometimes.

Btw, TPK, the proper spelling of "douge" uses a "ch" instead of that "g" you keep using. It's just been bothering me with the whole thread. Lighten up a little, will you? You seem just a tad tightly wound up about this whole thing. Maybe you should be seeing a counselor to deal with these issues you have concerning other peoples' actions. No one was holding a gun to Dan's head, and forcing him to play with them for 3 years afterall.

To the OP, Loved the story. Didn't come across the way TPK made it seem at all to me, and I generally hate intra-party conflict :)

Hmmm.
Well, for me, my silliest death was with my Necromancer, William in planescape. Killed by Insanity gas farting four legged ostriches. Not exactly heroic...(stupid acherai. I ended up running into melee with them, and got speared on a giant be-clawed foot. Did lead to the hilarious scream of "Williiiiieeeee! NOOOOOOOO!" from our Tiefling fighter though. And later, death-by-exploding Balor and subsequent true ressurection led william down the dangerous path of seeing death as a temporary inconvenience and led to his eventual moral decay)

Thanks :D Also we started a new game, in which Sasha is yet again alive and well (some how ressurrected on a new plane). We're actually playing a d20 Warcraft campaign now, and so far Sasha hasn't made himself well liked amongst this new group of characters, but no one's tried to kill him yet. There are more important matters for the group to deal with. However Dan's had to roll up a new character because Sasha has just been enslaved by yet another evil dragon. Now our group, and his new character, is on a mission to rescue him before the dragon can use Sasha's knowledge for his dark plans.

Plane Shift
Components: V, S, F
Focus
A small, forked metal rod. The size and metal type dictates to which plane of existence or alternate dimension the spell sends the affected creatures.

Focus (F)
A focus component is a prop of some sort. Unlike a material component, a focus is not consumed when the spell is cast and can be reused. As with material components, the cost for a focus is negligible unless a price is given. Assume that focus components of negligible cost are in your spell component pouch.

So, explain to me again how he ended up on the Positive Energy Plane. Did his spell component pouch get stolen? Was it by a PC or NPC? If it was the former, that PC's player is probably a douche. If it was the latter, the DM is probably a douche. If the DM was just forcing him to improvise for the hell of it, the DM is definitely a douche. Even if he picked Positive Energy by random chance, the cool part of being the DM is that you don't always have to go by what the dice say. Frankly, if the DM is forcing a player to improvise spell components or foci that the rules already state he should have, the least he can do is pick a plane wherein that PC has a reasonable chance of survival.

No matter how you try to justify your actions in the campaign detailed here, you're all a pack of bullies who need to grow up. That advice has been presented to you before, and, like the trolls you are, you ignore it and continue to feed on the attention.

Dan, you're a fool for continuing to play with this rabble. You need to find a gaming group wherein you're not the whipping boy, no matter how much you may enjoy the attention.
