Defuse a ticking time bomb [Archive] - Wizards Community

The place: Jake's house, living room

The players: Jake, the DM. Alex, the Rogue. Hans, the Cleric. Michael, the Barbarian. Samantha, the Wizard.

The scene: Jake is looking at something on the table, but we only have a view of behind his head, so our view of the table is obscured. Hans is muttering to himself, though otherwise focusing on his sheet. Alex is standing away from the table, by the entryway to the living room. Samantha is making a motion with her hand on the table, and we can't see that either.

What is it?

The book has soda spilt all over it, as well as the Dm notes, soaked next to it's distant cousin.

How is this situation delt with quickly and civily?

10-29-06, 05:40 PM If you're a player, and it's not your fault: Take cover under the table.

If you're a player and it's your fault: Run, just run.

If your the DM: Try to keep in mind that killing them results in 25-life but taking a hot shot to them only results in civil lawsuit if you chase them outside of your property line. ;)

10-29-06, 06:01 PM (Assuming you are the offending party) Immediately offer to buy the DM a new version of the book, and get on with life.

Otherwise, probably fiddle around awkwardly waiting for the awkward silence to break and the involved parties to resolve it. (See Hans)

If I am a player: Find a good hiding place, hope to weather the storm.

This is why I don't allow drinks within 20 feet of my books, and all of my notes are on my laptop next to my books. I don't keep drinks around anything worth more than $5.

10-30-06, 12:19 AM I've heard freeze drying does really well on books. It will just take a week or ten. And no, don't try hooking your vacuum cleaner to the refrigerator.

But yeah, just clean it up with some paper towels, being sure to (carefully) pull the pages loose in case the sugar and such in the soda makes them stick. The easiest way being grab the book by the spine and shaking it out.

And if all else fails, buy a new book. Its not like you just ruined a Gutenburg bible.
