Seems to me there was a series of Forgotten Realms novels that dealt with that topic. You might be able to get ideas either by reading them, or by asking that crowd.

A deity (acording to FR) dies if:

-is killed by another deity who then takes the first deity domains
-stop getting followers

a mortal can turn into a deity with:

-Killing a existing deity and claiming its portofolio
-with the help of another deity
-by sheer will of lord AO

Id would say that is totally up to the dm, and if the dm is willing to allow it for that campaign.

I agree. In some games deities are simply "high level" physical creatures that can be interacted with (and defeated if you go to their home planes or some other condition pertains that allows them to be killed) like any other. In other games the gods are more distant, metaphysical, entities that never directly interact with mortals.

Depends. Prior to 3e, you could kill a deity by finding everyone who believed (not worshipped, a common mistake) in him and kill them.
It's also possible to kill a god through the normal means, such as beating her to a bloody paste, but that generally only works if the one doing the beating is a god or an entity of similar power, such as archfiends.
An "artifact" known as the Last Word could kill any god it was used on, but only a god could know the Word without dying. The Last Word is lost, however, due to the only entity who knew it dying.

There are no official rules for either. Short answer: Ask your DM.

well pretend that the DM will allow anything as long as it stays within the basic rules described in all of the D&D 3.5 books.

btw what is the "lord AO" where can I find info about him?

AO is the overgod of Toril (the Forgotten Realms). Info on him can be found on IIRC the FR CS, Deities and Demigods (or whatever it was called) and Wikipedia should have something on him.

The long answer: There are no official rules, ask your DM. The Deities and Demigods, along with the SRD, has rules on stating out deities. A stated deity can have a HP total that could potentially be dropped to zero (assuming you can bypass all of their godly levels, spells, auto 20's, divine salient abilities, ect.), but there are no rules that define whether or not deities are even capable of true death, let alone what happens when deities die. The book gives plenty of suggestions, but makes none of those suggestions official. Wizards wisely left those decisions in the hands of the DM since those decisions can have a drastic effect on the campaign setting as a whole.
