09-10-06, 02:02 AM What rituals do you perform on your dice to help them roll good.

I personally clean them with a velvet rag and kiss them on the high # before every game.

09-10-06, 02:17 AM I just always use green dice. Green in my favorite color (I am a St. Patty's Day baby) so all my dice MUST be green for me to feel in the zone.

*Except the D4, that I put high number down.

Anyway, sometimes I put one set on top of another, so they feel the pride and joy of being up high, and feel like rolling higher. Then I give the set on the bottom to the other players.

Alternatively, I try throwing the dice different ways (eg-slapping the dice while they're in the air, twirling them with finger & thumb, etc). If one way happens to get me a 20, I repeat the procedure to see if it gives me another high result, and keep going until I get a string of low results (the dice are tired of me throwing them like that, so it's time to change).

Thirdly, just before I throw the dice, I try to "feel" like this roll's a winner. It works better if you "feel" without consciously "feeling," as oftentimes when you force yourself to "feel," it doesn't work.
Maybe etching the number 20 into your brain will work.

09-10-06, 02:51 AM I left my dice standing high-face up for about 6 months. Then yesterday, I scored more crits in one short dungeon crawl than I did in a year long campaign.

I don't understand it, it's impossible, but it happened.

I also rolled several sets of great stats in online dice rollers as well. I think I was blessed by the dice gods that day.

09-10-06, 11:32 AM I have a specific red d20, the one that came with the original D&D Basic set. It has never rolled above a 10 for anyone else, and it has never rolled below an 8 for me. I think it likes me.

As for my other dice, I always put them high-side-down. That way, they're more likely not to roll a 1 on their next roll. I know that this isn't statistically valid, but it's worth a shot.

09-10-06, 01:06 PM No matter what I roll, how I roll them, or who rolls them for me, I have wildly swinging luck. Almost always super-high or super-low. "Oh crap, rolled a 1 on that Fort. Save vs. Instant Death. Again." or "Holy crap, you took that Ogre out at the gonads!"

09-10-06, 03:03 PM I don't have any myself, but my younger brother used to always put his d20 in his mouth and swish it around before a very important roll that he had to roll a natural 20 on. It was ridiculous how often this seemed to work... Other people that we gamed with started trying it. :D

09-10-06, 03:09 PM I bathe them in alchohol after every game, then sit them high number up for a day or two.

I also ALWAYS make sure they never sit 1 up for any amount of time.

09-10-06, 03:32 PM Put in the microwave with the 20 facing up on high for about 8 seconds. This partially melts the inside of the die and allows the bubble in the center to float towards the 20, making it more likely to come up.

This is the only thing which will have any measurable effect on the randomness of your die; altering its center of gravity.

1) This one has carried over from our Star Wars d20 days. One of our PCs was a jedi who eventually crossed to the dark side. Once he did, for some reason he changed to a set of clear dice. The numbers are nearly impossible to see on them, and everyone at the table hates them. The clear d20 was coined "the dark side die". Now, whenever a character does something decidedly evil, they are told to roll the dark side die. (Which, humorously, makes almost all the players think twice because they don't want to roll it.)

2) After watching the episode of Chappelle's Show where he does the street-style bowling, baseball, etc. we occasionally "street-roll". Behind the back, through the legs, fake rolls, etc.

If they aren't, then I have to roll them all out of the tube, and then start rolling the first one in until it comes up with the highest number, and then insert them into the tube with that number upward. If it isn't up, I have to jiggle them until it's up (the jiggling is best done with a finger, because otherwise the dice beneath might get messed up). Then you have to cap them. If you don't, they won't work for you. Also, if you put only some of them back, they still have to obey the order.

*The right order is d6, d6, d6, d6, d12, d4, d8, d%, d10, d20, based on usage and how much I like certain dice.

this is what I do.

as a DM I have this one green, wiggly d20 (got it when I was 12, as part of some wierd math game) which i've named my "Die of DM'ing" which will only be used by me, and only when I'm the DM and then only when I roll attacks.

As a player, I always switch my dice. Blue, then green, white then grey. always. and yes it does work :P

Other than that, i have none, other than to roll my d20's a few times to tell which ones are going to give me a hard time and take them out before I play :P.

Then I microwave them.

09-11-06, 02:40 AM I only have one ritual, not much of one. It only has to do with my 2 d10's. The 100's die is always orange/red with black numbers, and the 10's is yellow with red speckles and green numbers. If I use them, I always roll in my favor with those dice.

I have a yellow with white numbers d20, a light blue d6 with white numbers, and 2 pinkish(dark pink/light red) d6's that I use most often.

God I know im going to regret saything this, but i guess you could say I am a dice God/Ninja/Jesus/psychic.

Its not just my dice either. If someone is having trouble with their die and is in DIRE need of some help I will roll their die once and it fixes the problem, sad but true.

DM: roll and hope to god you get a Nat.
ME: *not worried* **rolls** NAT!
DM: Roll again
ME: NAT!
DM: *Mad as hell by now* ONE MORE TIME
ME: 19!
DM: *lowers head and shakes it* God I hate you BOB! *insert random 5 minute curing fit*

If anyone on here plays with me they will back it up.

I also have the tendancy to call out the players rolls and it seems to come up what i said.

BOB (me): FUMBLE
player: *rolls a 1* God i hate you BOB!
BOB: *watching another roll* 4!
player: QUIT BOB!!!! *rolls a 4*
Players: *Before he rolls* "Hey DM (name with held for security reasons) If BOB calls out the number and it ends up that number I refuse to take it and im going to re roll"
DM: ok
BOB:*evil laugh* NAT!
Player: *rolls a nat* I HATE YOU BOB!!!!
Rest of party: HAHAHAHAHAHA

This isnt a ritual or anything( or i dont think it is), but during my 12th grade year at highschool I had my yellow d20 that I rolled at football games. ( I was the "official" camera guy for our team, only because my injuries kept me from playing ). Anyways, Before each game I would roll my D20 and its result was how the team would do. I was right 9 out of 11 games.

They get thrown about, dropped on the floor, lots of people use them, my little nephew puts them in his mouth, they have been up noses, accidentally dropped into drinks, used by greasy fingers. I have no respect for my dice. They still do the job.

09-11-06, 06:33 PM I got a really nice fleece bag for christmas a few years ago and it soon became my dice bag. The only thing that I always do is when I put my dice away I do it from smallest to largest d4, d6, ect. And I always put my least favorite of a certian type in before the others. My favorite d6s are handcarved out of wood, half normal sized, and ancient (I think my mom has had them since she was little or something like that, because I recently found them in a box of old crap.) I also have another d6 that is white plastic and because it is so old, cracked, and yellowish it looks like bone. I like to promote that theory as much as possible among gullible friends.

Maybe it was the second movie in that series - I think it was young guns 2. Anyway there was this bit where Pat Garrett? was talking about a tobacco pouch he made for Billy out of "buffalo scrote". That's what I want for my dice bag. A fuzzy dice bag for my dice.

So you acknowledge that attempting to alter the randomness of a die is cheating. So if you do some goofy dice ritual and it works, you're a cheater. It it doesn't work, then you've wasted a few minutes of your life on a silly superstition.

Threads like this annoy the [stuffing] out of me because people already think we're weird. These silly little beliefs some of you have about your little plastic polyhedra only make things worse.

I saw this thread and the first thing that came to mind was a piece of artwork I made a while back. It makes a great wallpaper...buy a print or something if you'd like, but no pressure...at least enjoy the artwork ;) They're 3d rendered dice...not a photo.

Im not weird im talented, I AM NOT A NERD OR A GEEK, some people might calls me a dork ( though ususally it ends up VERY vulgar instead), DnD is NOT a religion to me( just something to keep me occupied), Im not proud as in "hey a just won the lottery" proud, but If asked i will admit that i play DnD.

09-12-06, 09:15 PM When I'm playing, I line all of my dice with the 1 on top. When they roll after that, they roll very high. When the high number is up, the die roll low.

When I'm DM'ing, I line 1/2 of my die with the 1's on top, the rest with the high number up. Then I chose which will roll the way I need, depending on the challenge level needed by the players. It helps to know how scared the players get when i reach for my damage dice :)

Also, I place them in a Chainmail Dice bag I made. They know they are loved dice because I even made the bag.

I also only use Maroon/White or White/Maroon dice. (Someone tried to give me a burnt orange one once as a joke..... Just once!! their characters still suffer long, painful near death experiences) (A Gig'em to all who understand)

Oh, And Center of MASS is the proper term :)

09-14-06, 04:14 PM I think most of you will think of me as a creep, but my d20 like to live in my belly-button....I only take it out when I use it.

Had it out on the table one session and I nearly died....4 times.

Otherwise I rarely hit below 10

thaylok 09-12-06, 09:15 PM	When I'm playing, I line all of my dice with the 1 on top. When they roll after that, they roll very high. When the high number is up, the die roll low. When I'm DM'ing, I line 1/2 of my die with the 1's on top, the rest with the high number up. Then I chose which will roll the way I need, depending on the challenge level needed by the players. It helps to know how scared the players get when i reach for my damage dice :) Also, I place them in a Chainmail Dice bag I made. They know they are loved dice because I even made the bag. I also only use Maroon/White or White/Maroon dice. (Someone tried to give me a burnt orange one once as a joke..... Just once!! their characters still suffer long, painful near death experiences) (A Gig'em to all who understand) Oh, And Center of MASS is the proper term :)
Cadwyn 09-14-06, 04:14 PM	I think most of you will think of me as a creep, but my d20 like to live in my belly-button....I only take it out when I use it. Had it out on the table one session and I nearly died....4 times. Otherwise I rarely hit below 10
