Hi. Well I was reading the Dice Weirdos collumns and wondered what other stories people have that weren't put in the collumns. So here the questions: What rituals/ superstitions, stories, dice, punishments for bad dice and other things involving dice do oyu or your group have thatso ut of the ordinary?

For me one of the rituals I have came about in an ordinary way. I just got a large amount of dice off of a pre-used RPG materials site. One of the D20s was very dirty and grimy. So I took some hydrogen poroxide and a q-tip to scrub the dirt off of it. I kept the die out to let is dry and such. So when the adventure I was DMing rolled around I grabbed the die because it was out in the open. I rolled a natural 20, criting a player. Then the next time I used it when the rogue was trying to sneak by a creature it needed a natural 20 to see the rogue, and sure enough it got hte 20. And I used the same dice to get a critical hit on the rogue. Through out the adventures the die rolled very high if not a 20. So one of my players, thinking it was al oaded die, rolled it a few times and came up with numbers below 10 every time. He handed it back to me and when I rolledi t it came up with a 17. So now after every game I give hte die a nice bath to clean it off.

I had just finished rolling my third critical failure of the night with one of my d20s. I had put it aside, nudged it towards the DM, pretty much anything I can think of.

We play in my basement, sitting basically on the floor, with D&D crud all about us. So, fed up, I chucked the d20 as hard as I could at the opposite wall. It ricocheted off the wall, bounced back across the table, and landed behind one of my friends. In exile, it lay there for about an hour before my friend reached back to grab a die, got mine, and rolled it.

it then proceeded to roll four 20s in a row for him. The d20 then received the high honor of joining out 400s club (d20s that have 20-20ed). He gave it back to me, believing the luck had been knocked out of it. he was wrong. The next thing I rolled with it was a 2.

I was referencing Dogma when I said, "Natural 20s don't just fall out of the sky you know," and then I held a die high above the table and dropped it.

Sure enough, it came up 20. But since I rolled it immediately before my actual turn, my DM wouldn't let me use it.

My friend John's basement eats dice. If you drop a die in his basement and you fail to locate it within about a minute, you will never see that die again. We theorise that there's some sort of spectral ferret living between his basement and the void that eats them for nourishment and fun.

Just last session, we exiled a d20. We used it for the PC of a absent player.
First and only rolls with it:
Initiative: Natural 1.
5 Attacks: 1,1,1,2,1.

You sure it wasn't an icosahedral d2?

They say karma is a *****, but it's a truer saying than most would think.
I was DMing a level 3-5 group for several weeks when a newcomer showed up. He made a 6th level character, despite my telling him 4 would suffice, and he also munchkined himself a +5 dancing, shocking burst gauntlet with an intelligence of 18 (3 higher than himself). He claimed that his playing the commoner class rebalanced it... yeah right.
Not really having time to argue, I put him in a jail to begin with, as a way to prove to him suped items don't really improve a character...
He shared his jail cell with a gay rapist, who proceeded to make moves on his character while he was peering out of a nearby window at a distant crashing airship.
I ruled that his character was flatfooted, as his back was turned and his attention was centered wholly on the airship. He spun around, provoking an attack of opportunity- an unarmed punch from the cellmate got a triple critical, and the rolls came up maximized. The new guy was furious that his character was knocked out (and subsuquently.. well, you know), but thems the works- the dice had spoken.

I'm sure I've told you all about this buddy of mine who used to string together several d20's on a knotted rag, and then stick them...

I like to use different die for different creatures, as such I have a variety of d20s, a green one for goblins, a bone coloured one for skeletons, a black one with red numbers for evil casters, and even a giant one for giants. I usually get these at various gaming stores in the loose dice bin.

Skeletons have had a very bad run in my campaign, never hitting a single attack for an entire adventure. Then I looked at my bone coloured d20 carefully, there wasn't a single double digit number on it. It had 20 sides, but only the numbers 1-9 appeared, and multiple times.

That my friends, is a very unlucky die.

I have a lot of dice and I recently discovered that I have a d20 in each shade of the rainbow. I line them up in color order and use each only once to garuntee maximum luck.

My group has determined that our DM give off "Bad DM Juju" whenever he touches our dice. This came from one sesson where all three of us didn't roll a single roll below 15, and the DM thought we were cheating. He rolled each die about 5 times, and the numbers were perfectly normal. However, when he gave them back...no one rolled above a 10.

Now, if he ever manages to get one of our dice, our rogue player performs an exorcism on it to clear the "bad juju."

I have found that when the dice are rolling bad, a summary execution via hammer can get the survivors to roll better. Just make sure the other dice are nearby to see and feel the splatter of the smashed die
