Namation 11-10-06, 03:13 PM	Weird hmmm - So i guess stuff like slowly roasting bad dice over an open fire while smiling at your dicebag dosent count, everyone does that. Hitting threatening and even kissing the dice isent completly unheard of other then that, i once had a guy who offered to buy pizza if the dice rolled a natural twenty, the logic here being that his luck was so bad at the time, that there was no way in bacon he wouldent have to fork over the cash for the pizza, it did however, not work, and his toon suffered a horribel and grusome death.

mcstu3 11-11-06, 10:40 AM	A Dm I know has a blueberry-flavored dice...only he can attest to the flavor of the dice. He soaks his dice in blueberry mash, for whatever reason, be it luck or otherwise. Other people I know keep their dice on the max number when not in use. I keep mine in a brass box, assuming the brass has special luck-esque qualities.
The_Levitator 11-11-06, 11:12 AM	I used to play a little trick on my groups when I was a player. When I was younger, I noticed that a lot of players had a habit of stacking their dice. I'm a professional magician that started doing magic a looonnnnng time ago. So, I took 2 4-siders and glued them together at their points. While we would be gaming I would do a little sleight of hand and switch out 2 normal 4-siders for the glued 4-siders, and make it look like I was balancing one on top of the other. People's eyes would get HUGE. Then, after a few seconds, I would switch them back and throw the 2 normal dice as if I was making a roll. You've never seen a group of people make such a lunge at a pair of dice! :D I feel cleansed for finally unloading that after all these years! :evillaugh

That is by far the oddest of things done to dice in my games. However, I do have a guy that will "fire' bad dice. Fireing is accomplished by throwing the die across the room. And everyone wonders how my dice collection keeps growing and growing, while his gets smaller and smaller. And no, you can't "see' anything when the girls do there dice luck trick. Perverts.

seldom_seen 11-11-06, 06:52 PM	We used to have a problem with dice roling off the table onto the floor. One of the other players started rolling his dice against a 3 hole puch device to keep them on the table. His rolls were all super high!! Needless to say, it didn't take long before we were all rolling against the hole punch, and the rolls were still high.The hole punch took on mythical status in our gaming sessions! (and we NEVER let the DM use it!!!):D

Anyone who would give his dice to an infant is an idiot; anyone who would do it with the expectation that the child put it in/near his mouth is criminally stupid. There is a serious risk of the baby choking and dying right in front of you.

The problem isn't just the risk that she could choke on them and die in front of you; it is also the risk that she learns that it's acceptable to put things of dice-size in her mouth and chokes to death one day when you aren't around.
Grandpa Gamer 11-12-06, 12:07 AM	I dunno about dice freaks, but here's a true dice-story: back in the day of soda in glass 16-oz bottles, we had one player who insisted on tossing his d20 straight up in the air, to guarentee it would bounce. Well, one time (the last time, actually) it came right down inside his empty 16-oz Pepsi bottle! He had to break the bottle to get it back!

CryoSilver 11-12-06, 08:00 AM	I like to flick my wrist when I throw a d20 so it spins on a point when it hits the table; it lets me see the potential numbers a couple seconds before the die stops moving.

blade_runner 11-12-06, 05:22 PM	What I do is hold the dice in my hand with the highest number facing up for a few seconds before I role them. It works surprisingly well. I once got 5 out of 8 of my d6 to come up 6 on a full round attack. Also I got two critical threats and one confirm off the same roll (both the crit. dice came up 6 as well). The Balor hit the floor, his head came down sveral seconds after. (wasn't a Vorpal sword neither)

I've recently decided to get an Elemental Dice set, based on the way the Greek philosopher Plato related the five regular polyhedra (called by some the Platonic Solids, called by us the d4, d6, d8, d12 and d20) with the classical elements. tetrahedron = fire (a red/orange-speckled d4) hexahedron = earth (a brown/orange-speckled d6) octahedron = air (a clear, translucent d8) icosahedron = water (a sapphire translucent d20) The dodecahedron is fun. The fifth perfect solid in a world with four elements, the dodecahedron ended up being associated with the Cosmos and all of creation, encompassing the other four. So I came across a d12 that's black with multicolored flecks looking like stars or galaxies in the night sky... Now, the d10 isn't a Platonic Solid, so it doesn't have any elemental association. But since I'm getting these for D&D, I decided to associate the d10 with the other two Inner Planes. I'm getting a pure white d10 for the Positive Energy Plane, and a pure black d10 (one of the ones with multiples of 10 for d% rolls) for the Negative Energy Plane.

She is a baby...it is automatic for them to put anything in their mouth, and yes the dice are about 2 inches...it isnt like they are left out for her to play with
Cryforge 11-12-06, 06:28 PM	I have decided to only switch my dice bag if it becomes unusable. Gary Gygax, James Jacobs, Monte Cook, and Wolfgang Baur could give me a signed dice bag made of real Egyptian silk and I still would use the brown leather one I own now. (Though I would probably frame the signed one and hang it on my wall.) The reason? This dice bag has been with me since I first started playing. And as it gets pen marks, spill stains, and perma-dust on it, I believe it causes the dice inside it to be luckier. I'm not sure why. I just do.

I tend to balance my dice in totem poles with the max number up on each... i dunno it just seems right for some reason. I also tend to buy clear dice... they are luckier somehow. Plus i can pick ones with bubbles near the 20. Bwahaha im so bad! Rawr! :dragon:

My theory is that if I set the highest number, the dice will decide "We've already shown you that number." The odds of one particular number showing twice in a row is greater than showing once. So... give them all 1's. I also don't let others use my dice. Karma and all that.

Kargush 11-13-06, 04:59 AM	Well, I keep my dice in my pencilcase, one of those brown, cylindrical leather ones. And I refuse to let anyone use them. Strangely enough, I always fail important rolls... Saves and such like... Hmm... Maybe I should remember some of the "hints" you others have posted... if only we could get a female into the group. :D I am so burning in the here-after for that one... :D

I am fearful that if I use it, its luck may run our; so instead I simply have it with me, so that it may impart its luck on my other dice.

One of my friends slams his dice at the Dm’s screen for luck (that totally annoys the Dm). :) I set my dice in a row facing a 1 or the maximum number according to my character’s mood. 1 is for sad and the maximum is for happy.

He was convinced that since each number on the die had an equally likely chance of being face up, that by "exercising" his dice he was, in essence, "using up" the low numbers' chances of being rolled. He seriously had a little schedule for every die so that they'd all get the appropriate workout through the week and spend an equal amount of time on every "not the highest number on the die" side. Oddly enough, even though he failed out of stats something like 3 times in a row, he managed to be the first person of the group to "get" the Monty Hall Paradox. Coincidence?

This is my favorite set of dice and used for many years now, even though I have about 4 lbs. of other dice. I am mildy complusive and *shiny* dice caught my fancy! I have never seen a set of "root beer" dice again.

Anyone have a sound file of one? :) If you have the original baldurs gate game you can steal the .wav file for the stat generation (it made a dice rolling sound when you made random stats)

Asher_Vane 01-16-07, 02:38 PM	In our group, its common to 'use up' the bad rolls while your characters aren't doing anything that requires dice by rolling them over and over. As long as you're getting sub-par numbers its fine. Also, no one rolls on their character sheet, its bad luck. And, finnaly, our DM uses a huge 20-sided dice that he always hits us with, rolling streaks for 16-20s with it regularly, but if any of us use it; or if he uses it while actually playing as a character, it sucks. We call it the DMDD (Dungeon Master Doom Dice)

When players aren't paying attention during critical moments (say, when their characters are about to die), I throw it at them. When it's not in use, I gather all my other dice around it to gain the karma it gathers.

If a player in our group gets a string of bad rolls, he'll run his dice through the washer/dryer. It's like hitting the degauss button.

BlackZed 01-16-07, 08:24 PM	Well, personally I believe in Dice Mojo. Every time I get a new die or a set, I carry them in my bra in proportion to how much they cost. My stainless steel set I carried for two weeks, tucked between the ladies. At least it wasn't winter when I got them. Those suckers get cold. I'm also convinced that my dice develop alignment based on which character they are first exposed to. For example, the SS dice will only roll well for a NE character, as they were first exposed to Zed. They will deign to roll for LE, but still won't roll as well. And I've never seen such a stretch of below ten's as when I attempted to use them for a CG character, and I certainly have never rolled that many natural ones.

Don't get me wrong...I like throwing real dice and will probably switch once we get a bigger gaming table. But for now, if I can keep as much on the laptop as possible, it makes things easier for me to keep things in order. That said, if I find a certain set that catches my eye, then I'll definitely use them. Right now, though, my boring white set isn't keeping me away from the roll generator.
