| Kaya Kenobi02-13-04, 03:19 AM | Can someone tell me what was so great about the 3.5 DM Screen? I just purchased it, and it seems smaller than the original screen. Between this and the hackmaster screen, I wasn't sure what to get.. But I feel like I did make a mistake on buying the screen. |
| Draco_Whitewind02-13-04, 03:28 AM | well obviously. waaaait...you're talking about the screen, and not 3.5? :D heh, yes I know it's a cheap shot. this is why I own my nice leather bound with inserts on both sides 3 fold screen. Players pounding on your screen? not this one, I think it's got heavy fortification built in! Heh, personally, i'd say you could have saved money by just getting two folders, stapling them together, and decorating with printed tables at will. just a thought. ~Draco |

I think I may just sell the new screens on eBay.. But I'm not sure yet... I'll wait til I get more responses.. |
| Draco_Whitewind02-13-04, 04:53 AM | if I could remember the comapny that made the screen i'm talking about, i'd send the link this way. it is by far high quality, and i got it for free for buying so many D&D books from my game shop. =D ~Draco |
| ChaoticGod02-13-04, 05:35 AM | I bought the new 'Deluxe' screen. I thought it was pricey but I thought I would give it a chance. The reason its so pricey is because you are actually buying a D&D screen AND a D20 Modern screen together. I neither need nor want a D20 Modern screen so this should have cost half as much since the D20 Modern screen is the same size and quality as the D&D screen. Shame on you WoTC! As for the D&D screen itself I like the artwork, I like the concept of making the screen slightly shorter so that it can be wider. I hate three panel screens. This screen is an extremely wide four panel. As for the actual info listed well, some good and some bad. Changing weapon damage by size both up and down takes up two large charts. This is something that I don't see needing. If I am going to use an odd size weapon I will prepare it ahead of time. If a player is casting Enlarge Person they better know what the new damage is. Under the AC modifers chart there is a listing for Concealment or Invisible the answer is ... See Concealment page 152 (PHB) very helpful  Combat Actions are listed along with type (standard, free, Move, Full Round) and whether or not it provokes an AOO. Climb DCs check Listen DCs check Concentrations DCs check Where's Balance, Bluff, Jump, Search & Spot? Its not like those ever come up on the fly. :( Then we have a whole chart listing the ability modifiers. Yep 8-9 = -1 10-11 = 0 12-13 = 1 All the way from 1 to 41 . . . there was an effective use of space. The skills are all listed along with whether or not they can be used untrained, armor check penalty or not, and AOOs or not. They again list hardness, hps and break DCs for objects. This is good since PCs seem to think that destroying things will solve every problem. They also added a basic listing for the Detect Magic and Detect Evil spells. This I like since spellcasters are always using the former and Paladins the latter. Over all I give the D&D screen a B-. And I give WoTC a D+ for selling me a D20 Modern screen I don't want. :thumbsdow |
| Escef02-13-04, 07:58 AM | If it didn't come with a module, I'd say you got ripped. The artwork on the screen is meaningless, do you get to look at it whilst you DM? The meat of the DM screen is charts and tables. Yeah! Ok, a photocopier, a pair of scissors, tape, and cardboard... BOOM! Instant DM screen! Want it to look more professional? Fine, scan the charts into your computer, do some cut and paste with the graphics program of your choice, print it out, and tape it to some cardstock. BOOM! Instant DM screen! Want kewl art on the back? Take last year's fantasy calander, a pair of scissors, tape and... BOOM! Instant decorative DM screen! Any further questions? |
| Seeker9502-13-04, 08:07 AM | Screens are useful if you need a screen. Is it missing tables you would expect on the screen? If not, you got your money's worth. If it is missing tables you would expect, then you probably wasted your money. |
