| Zherog02-16-04, 11:16 PM | That's still better than none! That allows third party publishers to use those rules. I'm curious to see what they come up with. |
| Ranger REG02-17-04, 03:10 AM | Ehh. Old news. |
| aldymnor02-17-04, 03:14 AM | That's because Epic level stuff came into the DMG 3.5. |

Actually, I think they're refering to the Epic-Level Handbook material being added to the 3.5e SRD. It's still old news, since they posted it up last month (I believe on the 24th day). |

| diaglo02-18-04, 10:40 AM | Originally posted by Kaya Kenobi July 21, 2003. no silly. that was the release of the 3.5edSRD the EL stuff and the Psionic stuff was added last month. |
| Capn Charlie02-18-04, 11:12 AM | The epic level stuff (at least one document worth) has been in the 3.5 SRD I downloaded months ago. Albeit, I haven't read it much. But the Doc is there. |
| Zherog02-18-04, 11:41 AM | There is indeed a document that has been in the 3.5 SRD from the start. This covers the stuff that was in the DMG. but as diaglo mentioned, last month they added a bunch more from the Epic Level Handbook. |
| Kaya Kenobi02-18-04, 03:35 PM | odd.... That is a lot of new stuff... 11 documents worth.. |
| Zherog02-18-04, 03:39 PM | Yeah, I know. It rocks! :D |
| Kaya Kenobi02-18-04, 03:52 PM | Originally posted by Zherog Yeah, I know. It rocks! :D I didn't know what you guys were talking about until I actually saw them.. :D Silly me.. |
| Zherog02-18-04, 04:25 PM | That's OK, Kaya. We still like you. :D |
| KelanenPrinceofSwords02-18-04, 04:27 PM | I have played D&D in its various incarnations for 20 years now (of course, the first few years were more like reading the books to figure out the actual rules and diggin' the nifty artwork . . . ), and more than half the time, I DM. I've run a few campaigns into "epic" levels, one in 2nd ed (prior to Epic rules, of course) where characters went to 26th or 27th level over 2 years, one in 3rd ed. where the campaign was based on Middle Ages Europe but with fantasy elements, and the heroes reached 30th level or so, and now approaching epic levels in a 3.5 ed campaign set in Greyhawk - PCs are about 16th level. Is it just me, or does the game start to get a little cheesey at high levels? Right around the high teens (in levels of PCs), I usually start to miss the gritty sense of potential death and maiming that infuses a good campaign during the party's early days. Not that high and epic level PCs can't be maimed or killed, but it sure takes a whole lot more suspension of disbelief. (Where were all these high-level dudes and world-gobbling demigod-dragons when we were low levels?) |
| Zherog02-18-04, 04:30 PM | You are correct, Kelanen. High Level play does indeed get a bit cheesier. As for this: (Where were all these high-level dudes and world-gobbling demigod-dragons when we were low levels?) My explanation for that is often one of three things: 1) They were always there, the players just never noticed because they didn't "travel in those circles" before. 2) The BBEG "grew up" with the PC's 3) Planar travel is also available to bad guys  |
| KelanenPrinceofSwords02-18-04, 05:20 PM | Yup, Zherog, those are the same explanations I usually use. But I can only do it for so long, before I start to miss the simlicity of low to mid level games. Of course, I have noticed that as power levels peak and increases in power slow down, some power-gamers actually begin to role-play their characters. I guess they get bored waiting to level and decide to try it out! |
| Kaya Kenobi02-18-04, 05:59 PM | aye... World gobbling evil monsters suddenly appeared out of nowhere to destroy the world.. Yep.. Done it before.. Also did this once: The PCs were really angering a few of the gods, and they sent several tarasques after the PCs. |
| Ranger REG02-19-04, 04:42 AM | Originally posted by Kaya Kenobi odd.... That is a lot of new stuff... 11 documents worth.. THOSE are what I am referring to, presumably taken from the Epic-Level Handbook, updated to the 3.5e material first found in the D&D Revised Core Rulebooks. :smirk: |
