| Prinnikins01-24-07, 06:30 PM | I feel like such a noob not being able to find this or simply for not knowing it, but I was building an unarmed character that will gain die step increases on damage as per Initiate of the Draconic Mysteries. The initial examples make sense, 1d3 -> 1d4, a normal step in size increase, but 1d8 -> 1d10 isn't quite the same. I'm curious if this isn't just a damage # increase? ie 2 -> 3 -> 4 -> 6 -> 8 -> 12 -> 20 or how does this work exactly? |
| TheChilliGod01-24-07, 07:09 PM | It depends. There are actually two forms of progression that could be used depending on the original die type. 1d2 -> 1d3 -> 1d4 -> 1d6 -> 1d8 -> 2d6 -> 3d6 -> 4d6 -> 6d6 -> 8d6 -> 12d6 (1d12 counts as 2d6 for this purpose, 2d4 counts as 1d8) Or... 1d10 -> 2d8 -> 3d8 -> 4d8 -> 6d8 -> 8d8 -> 12d8 This progression came off of the description of Improved Natural Attack, which increases the size category of any attack for damage purposes, but it really applies to everything else as well. Though I think you don't use this exact progression for making smaller weapons. Note that, in 3.5 at least, d20's are almost never used for damage. |
| Prinnikins01-24-07, 07:10 PM | That's my problem. In the description of the feat/class feature it lists 1d8 -> 1d10 as an example, so it "jumps" progressions. |
| TheChilliGod01-24-07, 07:17 PM | As it turns out, I didn't read the question. I lose. :( Yeah, the initiate of draconic mysteries ability makes no mention whatsoever about size progression. So, for that class feature only, just do as it says. 1d2 -> 1d3 -> 1d4 -> 1d6 etc. 2d4 -> 2d6 -> 2d8 etc. Ignore any relevance to increasing size. |
| Prinnikins01-24-07, 07:20 PM | Is that how it works? Because if so... @.@ Imma break some skulls. |
