Differences between 3.0 and 3.5 plus Eberron usage? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I don't post on these forums very often as my gaming group is usually sufficient (sp?) to resolve most questions; but none of us know the following (also, we use the 3.0 rules):

1, Are the 3.5 Rules worth buying into? I have had a look at them and they seem to just clarify potentially confusing points and not really adding anything significant.

2, If they are worth it, what makes it so? What are the main differences? I seem to have missed them if there are any.

3, I have read that Eberron only meshes with 3.5, what stops 3.0 users from using Eberron (there's some tasty stuff in the ECS you see... :rolleyes: )?

P.S. If these points have already been addressed in another topic I apologise profusely. I didn't see anything in the other D&D sections that answered my questions.

07-20-05, 07:25 AM 3.5 has a lot of little changes from the 3e rules. Many are good changes, some, well... I still scratch my head wondering why.

The ranger got a much needed overhual. Many class abilities are now gotten at different levels (usually lower, a couple higher). Combat is explained a little better. Creature facing was simplified (though ironically enough this made a few circumstances more confusing). Many spells were changed. (Haste, Heal, Harm, Shield, the animal themed buff spells and a handful of others; a few multipurpose spells were broken into several lesser spells.)

Your best bet is to download the SRD and look it over for changes from 3e, then decide what you want to do.

My recommendation is to switch to 3.5 (and maybe house-rule a few bits of 3e in) as all supplements published since 3.5's release have been (and shall be) for 3.5. Unless, of course, you are prepared to adapt every piece of 3.5 material back to 3e.

I think 3.5 is a major improvement over 3.0
Was it worth spending Ł60 to update? Not sure, but it's in the past now.

Offhand, I can't think of anything major that would reduce your enjoyment of Eberron.
The only rules thing I can come up with off-hand is the Cleric auras thing. In Eberron, it's important that you have the aura of the god you worship because Clerics can worship a deity while holding a different alignment. (A classic example is the Lawful Evil Silver Flame priest who strongly believes he is serving the Lawful Good principles of the church by torturing criminals for information on other crimes.
