Who could provide information or hints for the following problem:
I need to know the numbers for digging tunnels, enforcing them aso.
Imagine a dwarven miner with the order to dig for eight hours.
What would his equipment look like, how fast would he dig a tunnel of what proportions into a certain material (earth, rock, etc.), what would he have to do to prevent a cave in, aso.?
Where can I find rules about this or if there a re none, what do you think they should look like?

Thanks in advance,
Sylvaroth

In my CS, I rule worker can mine/quarry 600 pounds in a 10 hour shift + (STR MOD +CON MOD * 100). This is using pickaxe and other hand tools.
I extrapolated that from some Brazilian mine surveys I ran across last year.

The reinforcement team would erect supports every 20 feet or so, using hardwood timber.

If it is ore that is being mined, an above average ore will contain 1% silver, 10% lead, and 10% copper.

Of course, spells like stoneshape are easily adapted to suit the needs of miners, making this move faster and safer.

As a side note on smelting:

The lead ores were smelted to obtain an impure lead-silver alloy, which was then fire refined by cupellation, heating the alloy in a bowl of lime or burnt bone. As the metals heat, the lead sinks into the cupel, leaving the refined silver. This is silver smelting as practiced by the Ancients.
In the sixteenth century the Spanish developed the Patio process. Silver-bearing ore was ground and then mixed with salt, roasted copper ore, and mercury. The mixing was accomplished by tethering mules to a central post on a paved patio (hence the name of the process) and compelling them to walk in a circle through the mixture. The crushed silver was dissolved by the mercury, distilled, then refined by cupellation.
Later still cyanide and other processes were developed.

Thank you, but what do the rules say?

There are rules for digging oneself free of a landslide in the DMG; I would use those rules and build on them.

Thank you, but what do the rules say?

I do not think 3.5 has rules about this specifically. Which is why I came up with the above mechanic.

Your ideas are well appreciated, Cymraegmorgan!

Any idea of the stats of a typical digger equipment?

1e dmg or 1e Wildness Survival Guide had rules for this. If I remember right. the numbers have not change. I think (I do that occasionally) a 4 man team of dwarves could clear 10 by 10 by 5 foot square in 8 hours.
Remember if you can't find a rule. Make it up and adjust as necessary.
