I asked this before to no real response other than other interested parties.

Is there a way to integrate the organizations of the DMG2 and the affiliations of the PHB2? Or do you feel that they are mutually exclusive and that the affiliations supplant the organizaitons/guilds of the DMG2.

Since affiliations can be used to technically represent anything I would figure that using affiliations would make guilds/organizations far less appealing. Unless a DM didn't want the extra complexity of Affiliations and chose not to use them and used the more simple DMG2 organizations.

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience using them at the same time or any ideas on how to perhaps mix them or if they should even be mixed together.

I would say that the organizations of the DMG II evolved into affiliations, which are much more interesting. I'd just play with affiliations.

I agree. Having two systems is not necessary.
The Affiliations from the PHBII are much more open to variety, applying to anything like guilds, cults, orders, houses and so on...

However, the DMG II also presents profit tables for some of these organizations, and you can use it as a guideline (especially for merchants).

I agree. Having two systems is not necessary.Necessary? No. But neither is any aspect of D&D.
We have the same thing in real life. I can belong to a fraternal order, a church, or a book of the month club. These are organizations I belong to. I can also associate with a political party, a professional association (many of which have "association" in their name!) or any of a number of other types of entities.

D&D DMGII and PHBII seem to have approached the same general concept from very different directions, and they have different impacts on the game. But I do not view them as contradictory or conflicting. I like them both, and can foresee using both types in the same campaign, using an affiliation to create conflict for members of an organization, and membership in an organization creating obstacles to affiliation.

All right, all right, Seeker, you got me. :surrender
Thanks a lot... As if i didn't have enough work in my campaign as it is...

/flipping through the pages of the DMG II to check the rules for organizations and adapt them into his campaign...

Seldriss, only do the work if you want to. I was responding mostly because the view of having both seemed (in this thread, and another I saw last week) to be negative because they were perceived as being redundant or contradictory. Campaigns have survived this long without either, and I suspect can survive with neither, one, or both just fine.

I just decided to give it a more serious look after reading your post...
