| Dragon Rider03-06-04, 08:17 PM | Ive never had the privelge of chatting with a completely different D&Ding group and was wondering how you guys organized who was DM, do you have one permanent DM for the entire time your group is together, or do you alternate DMs after a couple adventures Thanks in advance |
| thalious03-06-04, 08:32 PM | In my groups case, I am the DM 95% of the time. I am the main DM because I have all the books, the sessions are run at my house, and I am better at DMing than I am as a player--because I have a very hard time removing the DMs hat. Overall it seems that the group like the set up. I like it too. |
| Crunchy Frog03-06-04, 08:40 PM | I'd say in about 2/3 of the groups I've played with have used the same DM all of the time. This single DM developed particular setting and related most of the adventures to a big overall story line. The other 1/3 of the groups alternated between a couple of DMs, or even had anyone who felt like it take a turn. This was especially true of the first group I played with, where nearly all of us were still learning the game. Each of us decided to take a turn running the game when we felt confident we knew the rules well enough. |
| Seeker9503-06-04, 10:42 PM | I have never rotated DM in a "group" other than the three of us who played in middle school. Since then, a "group" is formed around a DM. I am *always* DM in the groups I form, and I am *always* a player in other groups I join. |
| Dragon Rider03-06-04, 11:09 PM | See, what hapenned in my group was it was formed around a DM who was DM for a while, but then other people started to try and unfortunately has started to rotate every toher adventure which makes it hard to keep up a single campaign or "overall story line" I'm hoping eventually my group and I can reach an agreement on who will DM all the time |
| halzmar of geoff03-06-04, 11:11 PM | My group rotates DMing but it's a long standing group. Taking turns prevents DM burnout. Each campaign has it's own characters and setting. |
| ieattrollsforbreakfast03-07-04, 04:05 PM | Although I am DM about 95% of the time, other players have had a shot at it. I think me as DM and my current players as players is the best way to go though, since my player's campaigns never really get going, and we always end up switching back to me as DM. |
| Escef03-07-04, 09:15 PM | In my group we have a semi-static DM. We play weekly, once a month we have our "Recurring One-Shot" in place of a normal session. The ROS (not to be confused with R.O.U.S) is with a different DM than the ongoing campaign. Once every 12 to 18 months we'll switch DMs for the pimary campaign, one-shot DMing switches every 6-8 months. So far I've DMed in my group more than anyone else. The current group has been together almost 5 years. |
| Lilith Darkcrow03-08-04, 01:55 PM | We used to have a two DM, me and our original DM, and we would switch off between us every few sessions. He left the group and now I run as FT DM but one of the other players is thinking of taking a turn as DM. |
| Gamecat03-08-04, 07:30 PM | I'm DM for the group I game with mostly. Other people step in and run other systems occasionaly when I get burnt out, but generally I'm the guy who runs d&d, and other systems as well... I have the honor of having several people say they learned to DM from me :-P haha |
