No, really, those were terrible. I'm sorry if I'm insulting your comics Metal, but they wern't funny. They only contribute to a pathetic sterotype of D&D players that needs to be squashed. It's nothing I haven't seen before in the RW, and honestly, I would have been ok with the bad graphics if only there was original material. But there wasn't.

See, this is where I admit that I couldn't make something funny. But I do not try to fool myself. Yes, I make bad jokes all the time. That doesn't mean I see fit to unleash my horrid sense of humor upon the unsuspecting masses.

You dont have to be a world class chef to tell that bad food tastes bad. I could not write a comic strip to save my life, but that doesnt mean I dont recognize non-humor when I see it.

Its not humor, just chiches in a strip.

Sigged, so sigged. (I don't even know why it's funny)

Oh, and the comic? Two thumbs down, and if I had more hands, those thumbs would also be down.

Unoriginal, cliche, and not even very funny, and you don't even try to not use the cliches.

Furthermore, that last strip was sick, disgusting, and at the least, PG-13 rated.

Well, after making one myself (see above post), I must admit the options for the comics are very slim. You simply don't have the chance for creativity. And mine was simply a test drive, just to see what could be done.

05-08-07, 11:57 AM
Well now, those were...interesting to say the very least. I must admit that I found the "Material Plain EL" strip slightly amusing, simply because of the last panel. I think I'll use that line at some point. The truly sad thing is that the "Tonight's Session" lacked in all sense of the word. Perhaps FAIL would have been more appropriate?

However, seeing as I am currently working on my own nerdy webcomic- I must thank you. What good sense has not told me, now I definatly know what NOT to put in the comic.

Cheers

However, "surreal" and "random" are not synonymous.

I have found the last three comics to be utterly baffling. I don't "get" them at all. Why does a portable hole make a tree? What does a d30 have to do with anything? A padlock? WTF?

I didn't figure a lot of people would get most of them as they were very situational and kind of group specific.
The portable hole one was us, filling a portable hole with sand and dropping it from a very high distance. We figured out the exact amount of sand you'd be able to fit in a portable hole, calculated how much that would way, what we would need to do to keep it together as it fell and dropped it from the flying carpet high above the ground. Using weight and falling distance rules it left a nice sized crater =p

The d30 was from AD&D, as it seemed to happen quite a bit with certain characters we ruled that taking a door off it's hinges and beating someone with it did a d30 of damage.

I am also confused by the padlock.. O.o

Is this too esoteric, or are people enjoying them?

It's not bad, the only problem is it's essentially the same joke over and over. Were it me I'd lose the concluding line from the shopkeep in every strip except the last one. The idiot PC not getting the point and just moving on to another harebrained scheme when the faults in his first one are pointed out makes a much better punchline and would give the greatest payoff for the "I'll see what I have in stock" gag in the last one.

To stick with the pattern and make the final punchline work better, strip #3 could be reworked a bit. Add the "That's a 10gp loss" to the end of the shopkeep's dialogue in the second panel. In the third panel lose the "But it's exotic" bit and just have the PC saying "I'll have 2,000 spiked chains please."

Those are good suggestions _J_C_. Does anybody know if there's a way to edit strips on stripgenerator?

It is the same joke over and over, but I kind of thought that would be part of its charm. And there's sort of a comedic tension to see how many get-rich-quick schemes of adventurers I can figure out (or find, using Wizards' resurrected search function) and shoot down.

I redid Economicon 1-4 with _J_C_'s suggestions.

Here they are. I think it reads pretty well. The problem is that now I have to think ahead two get rich quick schemes of adventurers instead of one. So any suggestions would be appreciated...

This is from my semi-regular gaming comic that is totally supposed to look bad on purpose. But I think it's kinda funny.
