Tell the worst and humiliating way that your character or your party or your friends character died.
1. I did a self arena with my half orc (lvl 10 at the time) against a Great Wyrm Red Dragon. I hit twice suprisingly then the Wyrm rolled a critical for 267 damage and died by a fire cone.
Let's here yours!

I was playing a kender :D hehehehe. And we were walking along in a forest. Some village needed help with some trouble in a cave nearby. As we approach the cave fire starts spewing from it in random spurts. Me being a kender, I decide I have to know why on earth a cave would spit fire randomly. So I dash down into the cave. Pretty standard for a kender huh? My silly party follows after me...

...twelve headed pyrohydra.

I'm not allowed to play kender anymore

A young prince (level one), the night he was in prison waiting to be executed after being acused for the murder of his father the king, is escaping from the castle and meet two guards at the gate. After being disarmed by one of the guards, armed with halbard and full plate, he take his dagger and attack them, sure that he can go through.

One hit later he's laying on the ground, bleeding, to return to his cell to have his head cut a couple of hours later.

Wow sad I have only experienced one exicution in one dungeon, and I tell you it's a horrible experience. Fortunetly it was suspended. So anymore humiliating ways that your character has died or someone elses or your campaign?

Flying home from my father's funeral solo on a magic carpet. Random aerial encounter with a giant wasp. it hit. I failed my fort save. I ended up as the main course for a wasp larva.

i was a halfling bard with a broom of flying.
My party was losing horribly to a frost giant. so i hopped on my broom and decided i was going to use it to lance him in the heart.

The DM laughed, said it would be a rediculously high roll needed to perform a called shot, with an improvised weapon, that i couldn't even operate very well ( i had found it the day before and hadn't practiced yet).

I figured i was about to die anyway, so why not?

I roll the dice....
(Note - in 2nd ed a natural 20 ALWAYS hit, just as a natural 1 always failed.
The rules on stabilizing were different so we played with 'death throwes', characters could do something in the round they were dying, as long as they died before their initiave, this gave you a chance you use a potion of healing before you bit it, since once you hit zero points you were dead dead.)

...and got a natural twenty.
I somehow managed to spear that giant right through the heart killing him.
He used his death throw to grab me off the broom and throw me to the ground.
Then he died officially.
And fell on me.
TIMBER!
The damage wasn't quite lethal, but the party was unable to roll him off me before i suffocated under the weight.

...those were the days.

I accidentally dropped a mountain on a friend's character once. To this day, that is the only time one of her characters died in any of our campaigns. Was also the only time she didn't play a bard. I was playing a sorcerer, she was a soulknife.

Here's one that I DMed.

The party enters a large room with a well in the middle. The well goes down forty feet until it reaches an underground lake. This lake is inhabited by a fiendish giant octopus who likes to climb the well and grab people who come too close.

Okay, so the party moves toward the well, but they see a couple of tentacles sticking out of it and they pull back. The idea of this encounter was that as the octopus crawled out of the well, they could weaken it with arrows until it got close enough for melee, at which point they could beat the injured monster.

Seems obvious, right?

The idiot cleric decides he has a better idea. He rushes up to the well, provoking attacks of opportunity from both of the free tentacles (it is using the other six to climb), and casts...sanctuary.

It turns out he had misread the spell's description. He thought that if he casted it on the octopus, IT would have to succeed at a will save to attack THEM. Really, it works the opposite way; you are supposed to cast it on yourself to stop foes from attacking YOU.

So, after he casts a powerful buff on the enemy, it grabs him and lets go of the well walls. The octopus falls forty feet back into the water, holding the cleric in one of its arms. The last the party hears of the cleric is a muffled scream as it tears out his organs and retreats into the water to eat them.

Most dramatic (and well-deserved) death I've ever seen.

Well.

I was playing a human beguiler. We were in our first acctual dungeon crawl (the entrity of the campaign up to this point being a high-seas adventure) We come to a glassy pool of water in the cave we were in and I flipantly say:

Me: "Marinus pokes the pool with his staff"

DM: "Roll opposed grapple."

Me: "???"

On obviously failed grapple later I am in the clutches oh an ill-tempered mutant shrimp (Chuul). NOw the party being the heroes they were try valiantly to rescue me. Until our marksman decides he has had enough and tries to shoot the chuul with his musket. His heavily enchanted high-damage musket. Firing in to a grapple. While I am down to my last 5 hp.

Needless to say I miss that character.

In one game I ran, a player had a barbarian who wanted to leap over a 10-foot trench of lava rather than walk the 25' over a bridge to the enemy, because he thought it was more dramatic. He needed something like a roll of a 8 or higher to make a standing long distance jump, and with a 3 or higher, he could at least potentially catch hold of the edge. Despite the protests of the obvious from me and the rest of the group, he jumped anyways.

It wasn't much of a surprise to anyone when the die came up a perfect 1.

A few years back I had a pretty good sized group square off against a high level evil magic user and his minions. When we were down to the last few rounds, after a long and harrowing fight, one of the characters managed to wrest the wizards staff, a Staff of Power, from the wizards grasp. He ran off to the back of the battle with it while the rest of the group descended on the wizard to finish him off.

The character with the staff, a fighter of about 15th level who was relatively inexperienced with game mechanics, thought that the best way to keep the wizard from regaining his staff somehow and using it against the party was to, naturally, break it. He looked at me very deliberately, and calmly declared, "I'm breakin this guys staff," and made a motion like breakin a stick over his knee.

Blasted him right out of his boots.

Wow that's sad. That would be horrible if the staff was. The staff of magius.

This is the worst string of dices rolls that led to characters death.
It was a Eberron campaign.
The party was fighting a Brain in the Jar with psionic levels. It hit the the warforged in the party with Death urge( a psionic power that cause the target to try to commit suicide for his next action) The warforged rolled a 1. Then the Brain floated a colume to the next floor down. Now we were pretty on top of the mountain and there were huge windows so the warforged tried to jump out the window. He was grappled by the a party member who was in turn held onto by another party member. By the way the warforged rolled a 20 on the dice to resist the grapple. The other two party members began searching for a secret dorr leading down to pursue the Brain. This mean one thing no one was watching where the Brain went down first. It floated back up and hit the character who was grappling the warforged with Telekinetic Thurst. He rolled a one on his save, the GM was nice he gaved the character holding to the character a str check. He rolled a one. The GM was nice he gave both characters who were falling out the window a reflex save to grab onto something there both rolled 1's. They didn't survive inpact.

The funny thing is that the warforged rolled 1,1,20,1,. Now if you look at it the 20 was made to resist the grapple attempt so it was the worst roll he could have made. Sometime the gods just say your time is up.

We were in a swamp searching for a black dragon. We see a big shadow in the water but it isn't clear. The wizard decides to polymorph into a tasty fish and go scouting. The dragon got a free appetizer before the main course.

I Had this CN 4th level Halfling Wizard in a mod my DM was running I think it was The Speaker in Dreams. The thing was me and the rest of the party were fighting the huge worm type thing it was awful to make a long story short my PC got snatched up and out of 4 of us only 2 were left me and the barely alive fighter. I Panicked and took every potion I could find on me and tossed them into the things maw , and let me tell you it was not pretty ; The thing explodes taking about 4 city blocks. the rest of the player jest started cracking up starred at me for about 10 mins then rolled up new PC.

I thought I was going to die the DM made the rule for mixing random potions and that was that she did think anyone was going to do it.:dice: :mage:

Wow a similar experience happend to me when I went in panic mode. We were in a kingdom. There was a litch and he summoned 4 great wyrm dragons. We were in the center of them and we only had a limited amount of time to think of somthing fast. That's when our ranger who could transform into any creature he pleases turned into a great wyrm black dragon. And my arcane archer and the half-orc were on his back opening a can of woop *** on the great wyrms.

In the climactic finale of our last campaign, the DMPC used flame strike on the black dragon... after said dragon cast Death Throes on himself. Wiped out the DMPC, along with several other party members, myself included.

However, given that the dragon was planning on unleashing Tiamat's army on the world, I guess our deaths were worth it.

Our ranger...

In the back...

My cleric of Pelor approaches thug.

Thug: Away with thee!

Me: Come now, son! Embrace the light of Pelor!

Thug: Away with thee i say!

Me: No, no, i want to be your friend.

This continues for about half a minute.

Thug: Enough of this!

DM: The thug draws a club and attacks you.

He rolls. A twenty. He rolls again. A twenty. He rolls. A 6. Suddenly I´m at -4 hp. I roll massive damage. A 1. DEATH. In the first 5 minutes.

In one game, my neophyte wizard traveled to the top of a mage's guild tower, which was a harrowing journey. An entire day of walking up stairs. When he got to the top, he found out that they were closed. For renovations. Dejected, he had a nice cry. After that, he sighed, shrugged and travelled back down. Unfortunately, he slipped and fell the entire way. Naturally, he died. Died good.

Totally not making this up.

My Namesake a high level Acrobat & freind are fighting a VERY powerfull wizard.
The Wizard has polymorphed into a large creature then cast enlargement on himself + some rule 0 stuff. Anyhoo he was gargantuan. After a few round he was wiping the floor with us. I decide that the only way we can win is to get his necklace the source of his power. To do this i have to tumble & climb up the Wizard. This is quite a stunt, but since i was only on 9HP at the time it was a last ditch atempt. I had fast climb +17, Tumble +23 so it wasn't like i couldn't succeed but rolling 2 1's did me no favours.

When he awakens he is with Olidomara.

One I DM'ed:

The party(a wizard and a samurai) walk into the study of a Mindflayer(the adventure from Lords of Madness). They make the mindblast save, and proceed to get to grips with the 'flayer. Untill the 'flayer charms the samurai and asks for a hug... :D :evillaugh *slurp*

Obviously, the player now hates mindflayers... :D
