DnD During Lunch [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-19-06, 09:47 PM I have heard several people mention playing DnD during lunch, and I was wondering what you guys do during that time.

My lunch period, from start to end, is exactly a half an hour. That's before waiting in the 10 minute long line to get food. On a good day. I have actually gotten my lunch after the late bell rang before...

So what all do you guys do? Do you have like a 2 hour lunch, or what? Our sessions are usually minimum 3 hours. So how much can you get done? Or is it just buying stuff, but no actual roleplaying?

Please elaborate for me :)

03-19-06, 10:20 PM Could be they have pre-planned combat scenarios only. Something like gladitorial battles: "Today at lunch your party faces off against a gang of mind flayers!" If they don't finish, big deal; there's no connection to a campaign. This could be lots of fun.

03-19-06, 10:49 PM I've been thinking of doing it using the basic game since my future PCs are still new to the game. Could give them a chance to learn while giving me a chance to prepare a nice big starting adventure.

We have a 1 hour lunch period and with food and such it'd be about 45 minutes of gameplay. This should be plenty for my group.

03-19-06, 11:00 PM Find a secluded area and set up and play like you would normally. When the bell rings to go to class, ignore it. Thats the secret. ;)

03-19-06, 11:12 PM You gotta realize that we were 11 to 13 when we played during our middle school lunch period. We had an hour, everyone at our school (about 550 students) ate at once so it took a while. We wouldn't have gotten a lot acomplished even if we had six hours. We muddled through and learned how to play the game. I still play with two of those guys, both were in my wedding. Our truely awesome games started when we were in HS and played on the weekends from 6:00 pm Friday until 7:00 am Saturday all hopped up on caffeine. Today, at 33, we play from 6:00 pm to 10:45 pm one night a week and really only get 2 hours of actual gaming done. We just BS quite a bit, it's more about hanging out, zinging each other and making everyone laugh.

03-19-06, 11:51 PM Well, my school lunchtimes depend heavily on the presence of our circle of mates.

If one ain't present, we just hang in our own little happy corner of school, where nobody else ever goes (not even the drugged-up bullies (Not that we have any)). And talk about D&D, or Mech Warrior, or the latest anime. This happens 3-4 lunchtimes out of 5, mostly due to the only girl in our circle, who is also the only prefect in our circle.

If we all are present, one of our friends runs a little bit of this Warhammer 40K RPG, "Inquisitor." We are kind of used to only having 40 minutes in these sessions, which are even then severely reduced by the OOC banter typical of lunchtimes. We can get in about half of a decent battle (Or 100% of a pushover battle, which considering the unbalanced-ness of the game, is rather common) and some RP'ing in that time.

03-20-06, 12:48 AM I play with my pcs at lunch. we have an hour, and since i'm a wierdo and don't eat lunch, i sit there with a ruler and whack them with it until they're done eating, then about 55 min. into our 1 hour lunch, we hide in a deep dark corner of the school (we call it the 'dungeon') and just play dnd. it's more difficult for my group because we use minis, so i have had to hire (quite literally) some football team thugs with shiny pennies to guard the area while we play.

03-21-06, 11:46 PM I belive the term is "Sub-Basement" the one that people seem to have forgoten is there or go up on the Roof, thats what we used to do back in High School, Hide in the underground and play D&D and our lunch was an hour and a half... so about an hour but sometimes we whould just skip class and leave out the Back drain tunnle that exited in the middle of the park across the street, I love old schools they are so nifty... they have all kinds of wierd things underneath them... check and see if your school has a Secret Sub-basment... you can find all kinds of old rusty, stuff from way back.... ANCIENT.... so awsome... stuff from like the 60's.... crazy old!

03-21-06, 11:51 PM Lol, our school has an old nuclear fallout tunnel. We now know it would be totally useless, but it is still there (though I have never been inside it, always locked).
