Special thanks to Sathery for (accidently?) giving me the idea. Another thanks to Sathery for numbers 4-7. Don't forget to number your responses! 1. Horrible jokes. 2. Even worse insults. 3. Spitballs. 4. Wedgies 5. Atomic wedgies 6. Swirlies 7. Hanging by your underwear (hey, but the view is fantastic!)

It just reinforces a very bad stereotype that makes players too damned nervous to talk about their hobby to normal people just because of some stupid social stigma attached to it.
TheDarkLord 04-21-07, 12:31 AM	Yeah, I'm going to agree with High Octane, this thread really does the community a great injustice. I'm married and have 2 kids, obviously I'm not a virgin. I gained a 4 year scholarship to college by playing football (D-Line), once again, not very nerdish. As a matter of fact, I remember giving a few wedgies and swirlies to the drama club pansies moreso than screw with the nerds and geeks. They are the ones that can hack into an account and change crap around ;) (First hand experience btw). I also learned to play DnD with what some classified as Nerds. Nowadays though, the People I play with are career people and family people, only the youngest in my group is single, and even though he's a bit of a nerd, his sense of humor is similar enough to the rest of us rednecks that we don't give him a hard time about it :D.

The fastest ways of killing a sterotype, negative or not, is through laughing at it. The idea that you can reenforce a sterotype by making fun of it in this manner is just preposterous. Especially when everyone on the boards is in on the joke.:rolleyes:

We have the best cell reception - "... can you hear me now? ...:D 2. We are the guys with the save-the-day plan on every Sci-Fi Channel show! 3. Mess with my girl and I'll mess with your credit rating! 4. We can balance our check-books on the first try! 5. We can also do our own income-tax returns!:ayyyy!: 6. d20's make GREAT sling-shot ammunition! 7. We can solve crimes WITHOUT violence!!!

Toran_A_Sunder 04-23-07, 09:14 PM	Some people exemplify the "geeky, smelly, still lives in parents basement and doesnt shower enough to drive away decades old funk" type gamer. Some people were either not that kind of person when they started playing D&D (like myself) or if they were, they rose above the nastiness of not showering on a daily basis. I proudly talk about the fact that I play D&D. And I laugh when people tease me about it, and I tease myself. Look, stereotypes are stereotypes because there is some basis in fact, if even minute and hard to find. But they're also funny. If you can laugh at yourself, other people will find it difficult to laugh at you. That being said...here are some health issues. 1. Serious case of nasty funk, due to the aforementioned lack of showering 2. Distended bellies due to way to much pizza 3. Pancreatic failure due to too much mountain dew/pepsi 4. Addiction to caffeine (also a by-product of mountain dew/pepsi) 5. Many welts from the pointy corners of the PHB and DMG :D

I once had a player who just ate cheetos all session in big handfulls and refused to eat carrots so one time I put some baby carrots in with his cheetos. it turned out he was allergic. it was still funny though.
