Witchcraft 03-11-07, 02:11 PM	According to the Eberron eratta (sp?) the Dae..The Masters of Xoriat loose polymorph and gain alternate form. What happens to their symbionts? Do they just fuse into the form? Or drop the floor as if they were an item worn? I ask because are they considered "items", I mean they are LIVING creatures? Thanks! ~~~Witchcraft~~~

Cifer 03-12-07, 09:07 AM	I'd say they either fuse into the Daelkyr (see? Not hard to type at all and I only needed two tries) or they stay as symbionts on his new form, just as he pleases. After all, we are talking about the guys who basically invented shapechanging.

Roland the Crownbreaker 03-12-07, 06:45 PM	The Daelkyr are pretty much epic level (the smallest has 20 HD) monsters under the control of the DM. As such, the symbionts can either fuse into the body, or remain unchanged as the DM pleases. Things that can make entirely new kinds of monsters on a whim aren't exactly bound by the same rules as a PC.
ArcTan 03-12-07, 06:53 PM	Since symbionts are worn as items but, under game rules are *not* objects but creatures, I would rule they don't fuse. Instead, you'd check to see whether the target was still legal for attachment after the shapeshifting, and if not, the symbiont would simply drop off. BTW, this has nothing, really, to do with the errata, since the "drop off or fuse" rule was already part of the polymorph rules. (The biggest problem with making things reference other things is not that polymorph itself was problematic, but that it meant a lot of people could go a long time assuming they knew how polymorphing worked without actually reading the spell.)
Ehtiar 03-15-07, 01:21 PM	hm, well isn't the errate for Daelkyr just Atlernate Form (su) - any small or medium humanoid? So .. it doesn't really matter since any symbionts they're wearing work for humanoids....
Syltorian 03-15-07, 01:27 PM	I believe it would matter if the Daelkyr was trying to pass for something "normal": if you are disguising yourself as an inoffensive halfling, still having a tentacle whip and a living breastplate could be a bit of a give-away. Of course, it could just detach them. But as the masters of shaping forms, I would allow it to somehow disguise them as well, keeping the benefits while having a nasty surprise ready for anyone falling for its disguise...
