Hello all (Sorry for the ramble, I bolded my actual questions)

I played DnD pretty solid from 1985 - 1995, and I played a campaign in 3.0 as well. My friends and I are going to play a 3.5 campaign in Eberron. I decided to play an Human artificer, least mark of making to get a good shot of flavor in this world. My friend is playing a Shifter Monk. We are starting from first level. We will be teleplaying using my VoIP server to conference and Screen Monkey. The DM and I will likely be at my office. We may add a couple other friends (now around the country) once we get the mechanics of teleplaying down.

I have skimmed the archives and read the Unofficial artificer guide (2.0 and 3.0, thanks very much by the way). I am starting off as a generalist, but The Alchemist Savant and the Hordeficer have both caught my eye for later progresson.

I have the Eberron Campaign setting book and Magic of Eberron, but I think there is more than enough in the PHB and ECS to keep me busy at least for a few levels. The GM and I spoke about possibly adding Magic of Ebberron stuff in as the campaign develops. Any other MUST have books for an Artificer?

I would like to know about some of the 1st level infusions and how they will interact with the monk. For instance, Armor Enhancement, Lesser. Can I cast this on the monks clothing, like magical vestment? Magical Vestment makes specific mention of clothes being armor with no bonus, Armor Enhancement does not.

Any suggestions for scrolls, or potions or infusions that I can make to help buff my Monk friend?

What about wondrous items at 3rd level? I know there are many that will help me keep up with him, but I thought it would be cool to be a generous party member and present him with a fine gift for helping me make it to that level. I know there are plenty of cool boots and cloaks and the like to make, but I think a balanced custom gift would be very nice.

True to the aesthetic and shifter style, he does not have many material items, he spent his starting gold on a set of Darkweave clothing.

What are the possibilities of enhancing that, perhaps with a move silent skill bonus?
Also, if a suit of clothes is enhanced as a wondrous item what body slot would it take?
At level 5 could I add a +1 to a suit of Darkweave clothes with the craft arms and armour feat if they were "masterwork"?
I really like items that develop along with their owner;)

Any responses would be greatly appreciated along with tactical/stratiegic advise on playing a metal suited, longspear wielding human artificer with an unarmed/unarmored shifter monk. He is very much an optimizer (but still a good roleplayer) where I am more interested in flavor over mechanics.

By the way we have not figured out a back story yet for these disparate characters, so that will be an interesting bit of work.

Thanks
Jon

As an artificer, you can infuse his natural shifter weapons. And if your GM will let you get away with it, you could also infuse any sort of "wrap" around the monk's fists that may use to lessen any bruising he might incur. You can pretty much infuse anything (shifter's underwear) and it takes on the properties of infusions. The infusion will often tell you whether its for a weapon or armor, or a specific piece of armor.

Say you wanna infuse the monk with bull's strength, you can do so on a bracelet he may be wearing. It lasts for the duration, isn't considered magic as its only has an infusion cast upon it, and returns to normal once the spell expires.

Clothing takes up the body slot. Boots, bracers, gauntlets, capes, etc. are all considered separate pieces. Clothing usually includes shirt and pants.

Clothes do fall under Arms and Armor, but I'd make you roll a tailoring check to create the item correctly.

My apologies, I'm doing this without the ECS in front of me so I may be wrong, but of course everything needs to be discussed with your DM.

MUST have books - Not really, unless you want to maximize the number of spells you could make into a Spell Storage Item (1st level Artificer infusion), then Complete Mage, Complete Arcane, etc.

Armor Enhancement on clothing - Yes, clothing is AC 0 armor.

Buffing your Monk - Artificer Infusion "Shield of Faith", Scrolls of Bulls Strength, Cats Grace, or Bears Endurance. Scroll of Enlarge cast on the Monk (gives him more damage and reach, but lowers his AC)

Wondrous Items – Amulet of Mighty Fists, Cloak of Resistance, Cloak of Displacement, Stone of Good Luck, Sustaining Spoon, Gauntlets of Ogre Power (at 4th level), Bracers of Armor (at 5th level), Gloves of Dexterity (at 6th level), Belt of Giant Strength (at 8th level)

Enhancing Darkweave clothing – need to discuss with your DM whether this would be a Craft Wondrous Item check (like the various Robes) or a Craft Arms/Armor check. I’d think it would be Craft Wondrous Items. No reason you couldn’t add bonuses to the monk's Move Silent skill similar to the Silence Moves enhancements on armor, but this would again need to be worked out with your DM.

Suit of Clothes Body Slot – same as a robe or armor. Note: you can still have a Vest over/under the clothes.
