09-07-07, 09:41 AM Just want a couple of points cleared up

First question if i want to make a CL 7 item and it has a spell pre req of a 3rd lvl spell is the UMD DC check to emulate the spell DC 20 + Caster LvL = DC25 or is it DC 27 for a 7th LvL item ? and would that mean all Pre req UMD spell checks for a CL 7 item would be 27 reguardless of spell LvL ?

Second Question Craft Homunculus for an Iron Defender states that the cost is 1250gp and 93XP to make. Is this the base price to make so i can still apply the half base price and the 25% Feats ?

09-07-07, 09:36 PM I believe that caster level for item creation has been generally errataed out, so that the check you would need would just be to emulate the 3rd level spell. So DC 25.
If I'm wrong about this, no doubt someone with access to the relevant details can set you straight.

The base price for a homunculi is never given because they cannot be made other than by their creator. The cost given is the cost to create. Treat the base price as being 2350 GP.

CL 7 to craft the item means your Artificer has to be at least lvl 5 (as they have a class feature letting them count as being 2 levels higher for caster level prereqs). You cannot use UMD to fake this, you have to actually be high enough level. Then, you emulate the spells needed to make the item. No, not all spells of the same level require the same UMD check. There may be lower level versions of the spell on someone else's list, and in the case of Paladin/Bard/Ranger only spells, it can get kinda steep.

No, you cannot half that, because you half the market price, and you cannot sell a homunculus. The listed price is the half-market price. You can still apply your artisan feats though, just remember that they don't stack with themselves.
